SCIENCE RANT:

the reason you hear either one is based on the way your brain processes and focuses on the frequencies in the audio. if your brain focuses on the higher frequencies then you'll hear yanny. if it focuses on the lower frequencies you'll hear laurel. and if you can identify both groups of frequencies and focus on one or the other at will, then you can hear both!
