Chapter 9

The blaring alarm next to my bed woke me from my peaceful slumber.

With a groan, I rolled over and grabbed it, ripping the cord out of the wall and throwing the stupid thing across the room. "There's a special place in hell for you to." I said to the busted alarm clock.

Then, I heard Katrina's light chuckles from next to me.

I rolled back over, coming face to face with her.

She planted a soft kiss on my lips. "Good morning, how'd you sleep?"

I smiled. "Better than I have since... well, for a very long time."

She smiled back, kissing me again before standing up.

My cheeks reddened when I noticed she was still naked.

'Well, if that won't wake you up, then I don't know what will.'

She threw a smirk over her shoulder as she collected her scattered clothes and headed for the bathroom.

I sat up, rubbing my tired eyes, then proceeded to collect my clothes as well.

After we were changed and ready for the day, we headed into the living room.

I sat down on the couch, looking down. "So, I guess you'll wanna head home then, huh?"

She smirked, plopping down next to me. "Eh, I'd rather hang out with you."

A slight blush and smile formed on my face. "Well, I guess I'm ok with that."

She chuckled, planting a tender kiss on my lips. "Good, because we have a party to prepare for, remember?"

I nodded. "Yeah, I guess we better run to the store. We'll need a lot of wine coolers if we want Luna to stay past noon."

Katrina laughed. "Fair enough... although, it's only seven, I think the store can wait for the time being."

I cleared my throat, feeling my cheeks heat up once again. "Sure, yeah, we have time."

She giggled before planting a deep, lingering kiss on my lips, slowly lowering us onto the couch...

After grabbing a few things we'd need for our little get together, we cleaned up the apartment a little and waited for Luna and Julia to arrive.

I sat at the kitchen table and popped the cap off of one of the wine coolers.

Katrina grabbed one for herself as I took a sip. "So, what's the plan once they get here?"

   I shrugged. "Beats me."

Katrina chuckled, taking a quick sip from her drink. "Fair enough."

Then, we heard a knock on the door.

I stood up to answer it. "Our first guest has arrived."

I opened the door, revealing Julia.

She smiled, pulling me into a quick, but fierce, hug. "Thanks again for inviting me."

I patted her shoulder. "No problem, it's nothing huge, I figured we'd just relax and have a few drinks."

She nodded. "Sounds fun to me."

"Well, drinks are over here, make yourself at home." Katrina said from the table.

Julia smiled and made her way over, grabbing a drink for herself.

As I was closing the door, I noticed Luna suddenly standing there.

"Jesus, when did you get here?" I asked, opening the door back up.

"Same time as she did, I just didn't wanna be stuck in the hallway with her." Luna replied.

   "So you... hid?" I asked.

She walked in. "Yeah, sure, whatever. Where are these drinks I heard about?"

"Over here, pull up a seat." Katrina said.

So, we all settled in, drinks in hand.

Then, Julia raised hers. "We should have a toast."

   We all raised ours.

   "Ok, to what?" Katrina asked.

   "How about freedom?" I suggested.

"That's lame, let's toast to the anarchy that'll fill the office now that you're gone." Luna said.

We all shared a glance and a shrug.

"That works for me." I replied.

"Cheers." We said, clinking bottles and taking a sip.

After a few hours of drinking and some fun conversation, we were all starting to get pretty wasted. Which meant the real party had begun.

Soft music played from my speakers as Luna and Julia slow danced in the living room.

Katrina and I still sat at the table, caught up in our own conversation.

"So, what's next for you now?" Katrina asked.

I shrugged. "I don't know... anything I guess... I mean, for the first time in a long time, I'm free to do whatever the hell I want."

She raised her bottle. "I'll drink to that."

I chuckled, clinking her bottle with mine.

We took a quick drink before turning our attention to Luna and Julia.

   "They seem fun." Katrina said.

I nodded, a small smile on my face. "Yeah... I'll miss being able to see them every day."

Katrina reached over to pat my shoulder. "I'm sure they will to."

I looked down at my drink. "What about us?"

Katrina set her drink down. "What about us?"

"Like, will we still see each other?"

She smiled. "Of course... you're an amazing woman, Shelby, and I'm determined to stick by your side for as long as you'll have me."

I felt my face flush. "I'd like that..."

She stood up, offering me her hand. "Good. Now, why don't you join me for a dance? No point in letting them have all the fun."

I smiled, taking her hand and letting her lead me out of the chair. "Sure thing."

We walked up next to the other two and Katrina raised our conjoined hands, leading me into a twirl before placing her other hand on my waist.

"Wow, you never told me you could dance." I said.

She shrugged. "Well, you never asked."

I laughed a little as she led me into another twirl, then a small dip.

"Damn, you're good... maybe take it easy on the spins though."

She chuckled, pulling me close to her. "Fair enough."

"This is so much fun, Shelby, we should do it more often." Julia said.

   "I'm in." Katrina added.

I smiled. "Alright, how about every Friday we have a little get together, maybe play some cards or watch a movie?"

   Julia grinned widely. "Definitely."

We all turned to Luna, who seemed to be avoiding the conversation.

She sighed when she saw us looking at her. "Fine, whatever, I'll join your little girls club if it'll get you guys to stop staring at me."

We all laughed, raising our drinks.

"To the girls club." I said.

"To the girls club." Julia and Katrina replied.

Luna rolled her eyes. "Can we just drink already?"

   "Fine, buzzkill." I replied.

   "Cheers."

   "Cheers." They replied.

Then, we downed the rest of our drinks, enjoying the remainder of the first ever "girls club" get together...
