Chapter Five ; Bodies
It had been a few days since my encounter with Matt. When I had woken up the next day Matt was gone, not even a note left to reassure me that the day before had even truly happened. I walked with Jamie towards the tube today, on our way to school which was slowly becoming my own living hell.
None of my friends had lunch with me and I had very few classes with any of the boys. I gripped Jamie's book bag as to not loose the boy in the crowd as I walked behind him. He turned down an unfamiliar road and I frowned in confusion.
" Where are we going? " I asked softly.
" We're going to Matt's house... "
" What about school? " I questioned.
" What about it? Do you really wanna go to a class that's not gonna matter? Wouldn't you rather live your life the way you want to? " he turned around and looked at me, " Wouldn't you rather go on adventures and explore Sheffield with the guys and I? "
We were frozen in the middle of an empty sidewalk. I thought or a moment, or at least pretended to because honestly I already know the answers to his questions.
" Stop pretending to be the good girl, we both know that's not your personality. You think I've never talked to George and Matty before? Little miss stoner, " he whispered teasingly, poking my forehead in a loving matter.
" Okay first of all, shut up, " I grumbled in reply.
He simply laughed and threw an arm over my shoulder as we walked. I stared out into the horizon, looking for a house that I'd never seen or been to before. Somehow I felt like I'd still be able to recognize the house simply by the feeling it gave off.
Jamie led me across the street and we stopped at a house that just screamed Matt. It didn't even looked like he lived with his mom though I knew he did. The house was pretty plain in and of itself but the yard was littered with old drum sticks and a stray cat was sleeping on a pile of cloth on the porch.
I picked up one of the drums sticks on our way to the door. It had words written in it but I could hardly read them as it looked like the stick had been hit against a a piece of metal with an insurmountable amount of rage.
It no longer looked like a stick, but rather just a mangled amalgamation of words and wood twisted into something that was unrecognizable. I frowned at the stick and shoved it in my backpack before Jamie saw and quickly rushed up to the door.
The door opened to reveal Alex, a blanket wrapped around him like a cape and a blush painting his cheeks. I smiled shyly at the boy and he smiled back but I could see the worry in his eyes when he caught sight of the fading bruises on my cheekbones.
Nick came up behind Alex and Jamie started talking to him but I tuned everything out when I saw Matt in the room behind them.
He looked at me and grinned wide but I squinted my eyes at him and frowned. He had a huge bruise on his right cheek and a scowl on his face. As Jamie, Alex and Nick continued to talk, I slipped past them and grabbed Matt's arm, dragging him into what I guessed was the kitchen.
" Hey! What the fuck! " he whined out with a pout.
I sat him down and gripped his face, turning his head to the side and staring at the bruise. I could see him blush as he began to squirm.
" L-Let me go! " he whimpered.
" Oh shut up! " I growled, gently prodding and poking at his bruise.
" How the fuck did you get this and why haven't you been to school all week? "
" U-Uh.. " he looked down, " I may or may not have beaten up the guy who hurt you and got suspended for it... "
I scowled at him.
" What the hell Matt why would you do that! Now you're hurt and suspended! " he looked down as I scolded him.
I sighed and wrapped my arms around the boy. He tensed up but then hugged me tightly.
" Thank you " I murmured begrudgingly.
" What was that? " he asked with a smirk as I pulled away.
" I'm not gonna say it again, get over yourself "
The other three guys walked into the kitchen and Alex immediately gravitated towards me. I smiled and we began to talk quietly as the rest of the group messed around and discussed what our plans were for the rest of the day.
" Hey you actually got him to talk! " Nick said excitedly.
I looked up at him with wide eyes. Nick didn't really talk to me a lot.
" Er what? "
" You got Alex into a conversation! He doesn't really talk at all.. " Nick explained.
I looked at Alex and shrugged a bit.
" I think it's more that he prefers to listen to people, " I whispered.
All the boy were quiet as they tried to comprehend my words. Alex smiled wide and I giggled a bit, ruffling his hair and walking out of the kitchen. My phone chimed so I took it out of my coat pocket. I looked at my screen and saw a text from George.
G: Hey are you at school?
W: No I'm ditching. At my friend Matt's house why?
I got no reply, simply the ellipses pop up for a few moments and then nothing. I frowned and sighed, sitting on the couch upside down so my hair hung down and skimmed the ground. Jamie came over and lay down on the couch, his body flung over my chest. I grunted as I coughed out a breath.
" Fuck off! " I whined as Jamie laughed at my struggle to be free.
" So.. " Matt said as he came into the room, " Who wants to go on an adventure? "
