20 | Wedding Talks No.: 1

| NAINA |

That night after buying a simple dress for him and spending an hour at The Radisson in the name of changing his clothes, I drove the car to Amritsar, which was perhaps why Angad chose to keep mum. He was quiet even before the drive. To be precise, he chose not to talk after I pushed him in the water. He asked what happened to me. He asked whether I was alright. I replied with a simple no. He insisted I reply. But no, I did not. Hence, he became quite mad and asked me to leave the place along with him.

"Angad, I told you I'm sorry," I begged while leaving the borders of Delhi.

"Don't talk to me for a while, Naina. I'll talk to you when I am alright," he insisted.

"Okay." I chose to divert the topic. "Hey! The Taj Mahal looked so mesmerizing in the night. Just imagine this for me.  Okay?" He glared at me as if he would kill me anytime soon. Yet, I ignored it and continued speaking. "Imagine we are getting married after your parents agree. We decided to get married at the Taj Mahal's view. What would it be like? Awesome, right?"

A small smile crept on his lips as he replied, "Oh! So, did you imagine them as well?"

"Yeah." I nodded positively. "Who do you think is my boyfriend?" I chuckled while he caressed my head.

"I swear I won't let you down, Desi Girl." Before I could react to what he said, the car broke down in the middle of the cold highway. "Shit! What happened?"

"Zero fuel, Angad."

THE NEXT DAY...

After pushing the car for a kilometre, finding a petrol pump, and filling the fuel, Angad drove to Amritsar for the rest of the night. And, we reached home at the same time I left the previous day.

"Thank you so much for the Agra visit, Angad!" I thanked him again.

"Thank you so much for making me wet. But, to be honest, there were many ways to make me wet. Why this?" He licked the corner of his lips in a way that suggested he meant something horny indeed.

"Ewww! Stop being so horny. There is a lot of time for us to work out all the ways and be wet. Be patient and work on making our parents convinced. Okay? Bye!" I hugged him hard. No matter what, his hug always felt like home to me.

"Naina!" I heard someone calling me from up while I looked up without breaking the hug. It was Charlie. "Come inside. I want to tell you something."

"One second, Charlie. I'll send him off and come to you." I broke the hug and looked at Angad. "Anyway, go home now. Let's talk later."

"Yeah. Bye!" He went into his car and rode away while I walked inside and ruffled my hair.

As I entered home, I saw Charlie standing there with her hands on her hips and panting hard.

"Hi, Charlie!" I waved at her as if nothing happened.

"Fuck off, Naina! Where the hell did you go? Why didn't you reply to my texts? You were online for four straight hours and chose not to reply to my messages. What were you doing? Watching porn?" She shot her series of questions while I raised my hands at her as if asking her to relax. "What happened yesterday? I want to know every single detail."

"Well..." I sighed and sat on the couch with a loud thump. She sat near me while I recited the tale from him picking me up, me asking about our destination for a day, our kiss at The Taj Mahal, me pushing him into the water after memories of that night flashed in, to our fucked-up car drive to home. "This was what happened."

"Shit! Did so much happen in just twenty-four hours? How is he feeling?" She felt, of course, sympathetic for us.

"He was initially mad. But, he seems much better now." There was deadly silence until I chose to speak up again. "Anyway, why did you call me that time?"

"Well... Meeta called," she sighed.

"Meeta?" I scrunched my nose and arched an eyebrow. "When did this happen?"

"A few minutes ago. She asked you to come to her house at ten in the morning. It looks like the Sharmas and Grovers are planning something for that Great Indian Wedding," she scoffed while I whined over it. I was too tired to move an inch from my seat. "Don't worry. I'll drop you in my scooter."

Before I could question the existence of her scooter, she replied, "I borrowed it from a second-hand scooter shop here. Your neighbour's daughter helped me with it."

Perhaps this is why best friends are made for. They have answers to our questions in our heads as well.

"Hello, Ranjit!" Mr Grover welcomed the Sharmas with open arms while Mr Sharma accepted the hug of his best friend. Yeah, it was reportedly true that Mr. Sharma and Mr. Grover were long-lost best friends, and perhaps that was why they had planned to get their children hitched to each other.

"Hey, Ashok! How are you, Bhai?" Mr Sharma greeted Mr Grover as well.

"I'm great, Bhai. Get inside." The Grover couple and the Sharmas were getting inside the Grover mansion. Angad locked his gaze on me while I pretended to check whether I looked good in my white and gold kurta. While I saw him getting inside, Renee, Meeta, and I went inside together.

"Make yourself comfortable, Sujata," Mrs. Grover requested her guests while sitting on the U-shaped grey couch. The parents of the bride and groom, the groom, his sister, the bride, Abhishek (unfortunately yes), and I were the participants in the 10883829th meeting regarding the wedding of Meeta and Angad.

"What would you all like to have? Tea, coffee, or juice? I'll ask Meeta to bring something." Mr. Grover was high on hospitality mode ever since they came in.

"Just get a glass of water, Ashok," Mr. Sharma requested.

"Meeta, go and get them some water." Mr Grover commanded while Meeta obliged and rushed to the kitchen. I looked at Abhishek, who sat opposite me, while he looked back at me with his head hung down. "How are you, Angad? Do you like India?"

"Yes, Uncle. I'm fine. And... India is much more beautiful than I imagined," he chuckled and looked at me while I looked away with a small smile. I was impressed, to be honest.

"Anyways, shall we talk about the thing we should be discussing?" Mr. Grover smiled while asking these.

"Do that first, please. We haven't decided on the location yet, and it's going to be a week. You kept flying from city to city for your business as if you were the grandson of Dora The Explorer. Get it planned, please! If you don't do it soon, then Meeta and Angad have no plan other than running away and getting married," Mrs Grover joked while Meeta served them a glass of water each.

Meeta stood close to Angad after serving everyone water. Renee and I sat together, Abhishek sat opposite me with Mr Sharma and Mr Grover while Mrs Sharma and Mrs Grover sat on the other side of the U-shaped couch.

"So, the bride and groom have decided on three places for their wedding: Udaipur, Jaipur, and Agra. What is our go-to?" Mrs Sharma asked while I looked at how Angad was behaving like a picture-perfect fiance in front of everyone.

"Well... Our cousin's son got married in Udaipur. I have been there. I felt like it was so serene for the wedding. What say?" Mr. Grover suggested, looking at everyone in a hopeful way.

"Yeah. He is right. It was so a beautiful city for a wedding," Mrs Grover supported. Yeah, she had to. If she didn't, she would have to earn a handful of deadly glares from Mr. Grover.

"I guess, Udaipur is our go-to," Mr Sharma confirmed after having a teeny tiny discussion with his other half while I noticed Angad whispering something into Meeta's ears. Was he talking about us? No way. He was not worth it.

"Ummm... Sorry for interrupting your discussion, Uncle," Meeta interrupted Mr. Sharma. "But... I guess, Agra could be the best choice. Because, according to me, Agra is an underrated city where weddings can happen. It's such a picturesque city and a great location. Plus, we have the Symbol of Love there. What could be the best sign other than this?" I glared at Angad while he was not looking at me.

"Angad," Mr. Sharma called. "What is your call? Are you okay with it?"

"Yeah, Dad. I'm okay," he mumbled. As if he was okay with marrying my best friend.

"What else do we need, Ashok? Our kids have decided it all. What else? We are okay with Agra. After all, it's Meeta who decided it, right?" Mr. Sharma agreed.

"Yeah. Then... What about the theme?" Mr. Grover questioned.

It took three hours and six cups of chai to discuss about the location, theme, and decorations. And finally, they were done and were ready for dispersal.

I was strolling on the lawn in front of their house while Abhi and Meeta joined me.

"Hi, Naina!" Abhi greeted me hesitantly. Perhaps, he expected me to behave like I normally do. Yet, I ignored his greeting. His focus went to Meeta when he asked, "Meeta, where did Angad go yesterday? I haven't seen him around here."

"Ummm... Didn't I tell you, Abhi?" Meeta asked while he nodded a no. "I think I forgot to inform you. He went to Agra. I sent him there to see how the places are and whether the places are worth it for our wedding."

My blood pressure shot up the graph while hearing what Meeta said. While thinking back on what happened, everything became clearer. Angad didn't plan things but used the situation in his favour. He wanted to please Meeta by doing her a favour. He wanted to please me after the fight we had that night by taking me on a date to Agra. And that was how he got his father-in-law's car. He fell on the water because of me. Then, we went to the Radisson to change his dresses. And, Radisson was where the families had planned to organise the wedding.

I stormed to Angad, who was yet to get into his car. I knocked on the door and demanded, "Angad, could you please come here for a while?"

He looked at me with the most baffled look and whispered, "Sure. I'll be here soon."

I walked away and went inside. Abhi and Meeta were not there which was glad for me. Angad came towards with a look as if to ask, "What happened?"

"Angad, let me ask something. Answer me honestly," I demanded while he nodded a yes. "Why did we go to Agra yesterday?"

He frowned his eyebrows and asked, "What do you mean, why? I felt like taking you on a date. We can't have our date nearby since we're dear if people see us. Hence, I chose Agra."

"Was it you who chose Agra or was that Meeta?" I crossed my arms.

"Meeta? What does she have to do here?" He asked as if nothing happened.

"Oh! So, you don't know anything. We went to Agra only for a date, not because your fiancee asked for it. Right?" I raised my voice while he hissed.

"Keep quiet, Naina. People are watching us," he whispered. "What did I do? What does Meeta have to do here?"

"Angad, you could have told me the actual reason. I wouldn't have gone mad. My question is, why did you have to please two people at a time for no reason?" I inquired.

"I have no reason to please people, Naina. I told you, didn't I? We went to Agra, and the sole reason was to take you on a date," he raised his voice that time.

"Okay." I shifted my focus to the house and yelled, "Meeta!"

A few seconds later, Meeta came towards us and asked, "What happened, Naina? Is everything alright?"

"Yeah, Meeta." I tried to smile. "Ummm... What were you talking to Abhi about?"

"Well... Abhi asked why he couldn't see Angad anywhere yesterday. I informed him that I sent Angad to Agra since I wanted to check whether the place was worth organising our wedding." She looked at Angad and said, "And, he said Agra is a beautiful city indeed."

I glared at Angad while he looked down out of embarrassment. I muttered cuss words and ensured nobody heard it. I didn't want to stand there for another moment, hence I walked out of the place.

I heard Meeta asking him, "What happened to your best friend? Did you fight with her again?"

I wish I could tell her, "Best friends, my ass! We are fucking in love with each other."

I took my mobile from my bag and texted Charlie.

Me: Pick me up.

Meanwhile, I sent another message to Angad.

Me: Fuck off wherever you wish to. Don't you dare come to me and say, "Hey, Desi Girl! I love you, and I won't let you down." And I will ensure you will sleep in your coffin.
