Chapter 3

~Luke

I was woken by someone jumping on my bed.

"Luke wake up! You promised to take me to get my nose pierced like you remember?" Nikki questioned, shaking me.

I reached over for my phone and checked the time, it read 10:30 AM. Shit I slept that long?

I sat up and nodded to her, "Let me change."

She nodded and I walked over to my closet and she sat on my bed staring out the window. Nikki always enjoyed looking out the window for some reason. I was always the one to stop her at Christmas and other holidays because family friends thought she was insane. Our families both know she has ADD but her parents wouldn't tell anyone because she was too embarrassed. I finish changing and turn around. She was laying on the bed texting someone.

"Ready?" I ask her.

She jumps and shakes her head, "Yeah."

With a quick twiddle of her thumbs she shuts her phone and jumps off the bed smiling. We exchange glances and she dashed out of the room.

"Hey! Not fair!" I shout after her.

"Get faster next time dimwit!" Her voice rang from outside.

Now I know its sad but Nikki has always been the fastest out of all of us. She never really enjoyed sports except for tennis... thanks Jai. So the boys and I never understood how that got her so fast. I finally make it outside and see her car is already revving to go.

"Can I drive on the way back?" I ask her as I climb in.

"Why not, I just don't want you to crash." She responds, pulling out of the drive.

I laugh, "I wouldn't try to."

She of course doesn't know a place to get the piercing done, since she doesn't have her ears pierced. With a quick stop at a gas station I pull up directions to a highly recommended one off Google. The car sped away and within five minutes we pull into the lot.

~Nikki

We walk into the parlor and I gather a faint scent of blood. I grab onto Luke's arm and he looks at me.

"Scared?"

I shake my head and reply, "Not scared, just nervous."

Someone walks up to the counter and asks what we need. Luke tells her that I want a piercing that looks like his and she quickly runs to the back to find one. Another girl takes us to a room and has me sit on a table.

"Mary will be with you in a moment." She smiled and walked out.

I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket, a text from Jai.

"Where are you?"
I quickly respond, "Just getting something Luke promised me. I'm fine, no need to worry."

"Okay, I was just wondering why I was awoken by breakfast with no cook." He replied quick.

I smiled, "I'll be home soon, Luke is driving home. Fingers crossed I wont die."

The original woman walked into the room with a piercing that looked exactly like Luke's.

"Like it?" She asked me.

I nodded and smiled, "Its perfect."

Now I cant say that Im one to enjoy being stabbed by needles. I really hate it. Sure once the needle is in I don't care, but when its inserted is the worst part. The woman was preparing everything she needed and I was starting to get nervous.

"You okay? You're shaking." Luke asked in a worried tone.

I shake my head, "Once its in I'll be fine. I just don't like needles."

He grabbed my hand, "I'm here for you. No need to worry."

"Alright, I'll put some numbing cream on the area and then it should be done in 30 seconds."

I nod and she puts the cream on my nose and grabs a paper towel. She rubs the excess cream off and picks up the needle. I squeeze Luke's hand as she does the procedure. I felt the needle dig into my skin, my eyes squeezed shut the entire time.

"Alright your done." She told me.

I let go of Luke's hand and looked into the mirror. Luke stood next to me and took a picture. I put my finger on the piece of metal and he smiled.

"Feels wird huh?"

"Yeah, I've never had a piercing before."

I turn and face the woman, "Thank you for doing this."

"No problem." She hands me a tube of cream.

"For when it starts to hurt. It'll hurt for at least three days, if you have any problems just come back."

"Alright, sounds good. Thanks again." I say on my way out.

We walk out the door and I hand Luke the keys to my car, "You said you wanted to drive it home didn't you?"

He took the keys and got an evil grin.

"Don't get a scratch on it or you're dead."

He puts his hands up in surrender, "Okay okay. The car will be in the same condition as its in now."

We jump into the car and I could see his nerves when starting it up. Sure he's driven a sports car before, but I bet he was never threatened into keeping it scratch free. We drove off and I put the roof down.

"I don't like using air conditioning when the weather is nice enough to put the top down."

He laughs, "It doesn't bother me."

Soon enough we arrive back at the house and I could hear screaming from the direction of the pool.

"What the hell could they be doing now?" I say as I close the car door.

Luke followed and we ran to the pool. Not to my surprise everyone is taking turns playing "sting pong", not the ideal game if you ask me.

"Guys, why now?" I ask them.

James and Daniel shrugged, "Jai got mad when playing Fifa so we decided to play."

I rolled my eyes and walked over to the red backed Jai, "And you let them?"

"They forced me..." He spoke softly as his head hung low.

I grabbed him his shirt and he gladly took it. Meanwhile all the guys just watched us.

"What? I cant stop my best friend from being beat up by his friends?" I ask them sarcastically.

They laughed and we all ran inside. Since Fifa was already loaded up we all sat around and played. Naturally Jai got pissed at everyone and went to his room.

~Beau

At around nine Nikki went up to her room, claiming she has some work to do. I left the boys and followed her, knowing something was up. I caught up to her just as she was about to close her door.

"Nick? Can we talk?" I ask her.

"Uh, yeah sure. Come on in." She responds.

She sits on her bed and I sit next to her. She rubs her leg, something she does when she's nervous. I decided to ease into a 'certain topic'.

"So you went with Luke to get your nose pierced just like his?"

"Yeah, he kinda promised he would take me when I was ready." She replied.

I nodded in understanding but she quickly spoke, "You want to know whats going on between Jai and I don't you?"

I sighed, "Yeah, honestly I don't care as long as you're happy."

"Well, I'll just explain everything to you I guess."

She took a deep breath and began, "So basically when Jai and I went out last night he took me to The Cheesecake Factory. After we finished eating he asked me to be his girlfriend. I said yes since I had feelings for him as well. Afterward I took him to the top of the hill where you can see the whole city, the one we found when we got lost. He loved it. He did that thing wear the guy gives the girl his jacket, but this time I was actually cold. Then he also told me that he was here to make me feel better, so I don't have to act tough around him. Then we came back."

I smiled, "Back in Melbourne, before we moved he told me how he felt about you. He always thought you didn't like him that way so he never bothered telling you."

She laid her head on my shoulder and I put my arm around her. I could hear her sniffling and I grabbed a tissue out of the box on the chair next to me. She gladly took it and wiped her face then blew her nose.

"You guys didn't have to bring me with you." She confessed.

I rubbed her shoulder, "Come one Nikki, you know we wouldn't leave you behind. You basically kept us almost sane all these years. You are like a sister to us all, especially me. We tell each other everything. But I have never thought of you as anything more than a friend or a sister. You and Jai have always had a different relationship. He always snapped you out of your ADD daydreams, he wanted everyone to know you weren't different. I remember when you guys were around seven if anyone of my cousins wanted to play cricket with Jai you had to be there. If they said no Jai wouldn't play, you two always had each others back. You really were meant for each other,"

She dug her face into my shoulder, "Thanks Beau."

~Jai

Around ten minutes after I heard Beau and Nikki walk into her room I went and sat outside her door. I heard everything they said, and I wasn't even mad. Sure she spilled everything to him, but that wasn't odd. What did surprise is what Beau said afterward. He was so sincere it was almost not him. I heard her bed creak and I stood up and started walking towards the stairs, knowing thats where Beau was most likely headed. I sat on the window sill and looked out the window. Soon enough Beau walked towards the stairs, but he stopped and looked at me.

"You did a good thing Jai."

He then disappeared down the stairs, and that was the last time I saw him that night.
