Can You Keep a Secret?
After their little break, the rain started to calm, but it was still drizzling. But at least they didn't need the umbrellas anymore.
"So how far are the towers judging from our position?" Juro asked Kenshi as they continued hiking through the thin woods. "I don't know. None of the Foxes do because we never actually passed that city. I think it's only a few more hours on foot though."
"Well it's going to be dark soon. So we either keep walking until we find a clearing, or we're gonna be sleeping next to trees tonight."
"Well we don't want to risk getting caught by walkers in the middle of the woods. Most preferably, we need to find a dry clearing around here. Kenshi says to Maiko, who nods. "We'll have to endure it just for a few more. It would be better if we find a clearing next to a river as well. I heard rushing water around here earlier." Maiko replies to Kenshi, who grins.
"Then we need to hurry, if we can get to the river, we can just hunt our food instead of wasting our food from Boss. It could come in handy just in case of an emergency." the brunette nods, fixing his backpack.
"And we can just boil water instead of using our bottles!" Juro joins, smiling proudly. "Yeah, you're right. Where did you learn that?"
"Mom was actually a girl scout, she made me join a boy scouts team. A slightly dangerous activity she actually let me join." Juro chuckles.
"It's not my fault! I don't need you getting hurt, especially since your father was almost just as careless as you." she protests, pouting.
"Wait... Shh... I think I hear a river!" Kenshi suddenly says, following the sounds of water as he carefully threaded through the woods. "Whoa..." After letting his ears lead him, the group of three stumbled upon a small camp.
But it definitely didn't have any survivors.
The three could hear pounding and staggering inside the trailer parked in the clearing. "I'm pretty sure this place is empty. Sounds like only a few walkers." Juro says, taking a step forward, looking around.
"We should get rid of them before doing anything else." Maiko says, taking out her gun. "We shouldn't rush in there to quick. Besides, using a gun can draw more attention to us. We don't need that."
"I know what I'm doing. Juro, take out that cushion pillow I put in your backpack before we left." Maiko's son obediently pulls out a small cushion pillow, probably enough to cover a head. "I knew this would come in handy."
"How's that gonna help us?" Kenshi asks. "It muffles the gunshot." Juro answers, watching his mother move to the door of the trailer.
"Let's get this over with. Hurry up." Maiko says, glaring at the two, making them move to her side.
"Here's what's happening. Juro, you're breaking down the door. Kenshi, since you're probably the strongest, you'll be pushing the walkers down with the pillow while I shoot. Got it?"
"Understood." they said in unison. Once Juro broke down the door, Kneshi rushed to push the creatures down as Maiko steadily shot all of them.
They looked to be a family, and Maiko had killed presumably the mother and father. A teen girl and a young boy. It was all quiet, but then Maiko's sharp ears picked up the small noises from the trailer bathroom.
Opening it, she found a little child. A little girl.
If it was still alive, she looked to be about only a few months old. 11 months at the most.
Maiko's eyes widened at the little bundle laying in the sink. It was a horrifying sight by itself but... Man, a walker had never scared her more.
"Mai? What's in there...?" Kenshi enters the small room, gasping when he saw the little child in the sink.
"Is it... Did it turn...?" he muttered, looking over Maiko's shoulder, the woman avoiding his gaze.
"Y-Yeah..." he voice was shaky, a fact that Kenshi quickly picked up on. "Hey, you okay?" "Yeah... J-Just... You take care of this one... I need to go check on Juro."
"Hey, hold on-" the Black Fox says, grabbing her wrist. "What's wrong with you?"
"I-It's nothing, okay? Just shocked about this thing..." she replied quietly, shaking his hand off and walking back out.

After looking around, the trio were glad to have stumbled upon the entire camp. The only con was having to off the family of five but it was a jackpot strike otherwise.
The old family had a ton of supplies stashed away into a cupboard. They also had some weapons and sleeping bags. And actual fire pit and some actual pots and pans helped too. The electricity was still functional, even a TV and a bunch of bunk beds.
It was perfect.
Night fell quickly, and a fire was lit, Maiko cooking inside the trailer. The door to the trailer was open, letting the smell of fresh food waft outside, making the boys even hungrier.
"Mom!" Juro whined. "Is it done yet?!" "Yeah! I'm starving!" Kenshi laughs, making Maiko smirk as she poked her head out the trailer.
"Well if you're that hungry, you can go ahead and just eat those biscuits for dinner."
"We'll wait!" they yelled back, making Maiko chuckle as she began serving the food on paper plates they had brought with them. Thankfully, the refrigerator was working the entire time, and the ingredients were still edible.
It was nothing much, just some ramen and breaded shrimp. But it was a decent meal, one they definitely haven't had in a long time.
After she had brought it out, the boys immediately dug in as Maiko ate calmly, watching over them.
"Well... I'm full, I"m going to bed. 'Night mom." Juro suddenly yawns after he finished his meal. Giving his mother a peck on the cheek, the boy walked into the trailer, the lights went off as only the soft glow of the lantern inside remained.
After Maiko finished her food, she walked in to see her son sound asleep before walking back out to Kenshi, who's brows were furrowed as he frowned a little.
"Hey, something the matter? If you keep making that face, you'll get wrinkles." she chuckles, sitting next to him as the fire crackled in front of them.
"...Can I ask you something?" he says after a moment of silence.
"Shoot." she says, leaning back slightly on her arms, facing him with a small grin. "It's not necessary to answer but... why were you so freaked out about that baby in the sink earlier?"
Maiko's memory flashed back to when she found the poor thing and she bit the inside of her cheek, frowning. "I... I don't know. As a mother, I guess it just kind of got to me."
"That's a lie," Kenshi mutters, "You didn't have a problem offing the other two kids. Yet you struggled with that one... Just tell me the truth."
".....Fine. Can you keep a secret?"
