"I SEE YOU GOT READY TO impress that boy." My mother exclaimed, holding Evie on her left hip. The toddler sucked on a muted yellow pacifier, and honestly just minded her business. Probably has her mind filled with whatever children think of at that age. I playfully rolled my eyes at her, and continued to roll up silverware inside of napkins for tonight.
"Definitely not, you know their species doesn't deserve all of this." I joked, placing another roll into a plastic container. A chuckle left her mouth. "You're right."
I did get extra ready tonight, though. I mean, it's the biggest night of the season at our farm. And maybe, a little reasoning of it was Louis. Adding more highlighter, blush, mascara, and etc than usual, my makeup was ready for a night I had no idea what would contain of.
I stood up later than usual, talking to the group-chat about various things. Which probably wasn't the smartest thing considering I had to wake up earlier this morning to help my family set up everything. But, two cups of iced coffee definitely helped a lot.
The dinner bell to the Concession Stand door rang, making my mom and I's eyes dart towards the entrance.
Daniel, Ivy, and Mariah walked in each laughing and having smiles on their faces. Probably laughing at something stupid Daniel said. Each of them were dressed beautifully. One thing I can say about my idiotic friends is that they had good style. But as for me, I was stuck with wearing my plain work clothes.
"I figured we should've came early to help out," Ivy assured. Daniel walked up to the bar and sat down on a bar stool. The blonde girl reached over the counter and gave me a hug, Mariah doing the same.
"Well, you kids have fun," Mom commented. "I need to take the little one over to Grandma." Evie rested her head on our mother's shoulder. She continued to suck on her pacifier. Giving them a small wave bye, my attention turned to my friends.
"Your mom is still hot as fuck." Santiago stated, making my eyes widen. He picked up a random straw in front of him and started to play with it. Mariah busted into a pit of laughter. I pretended to gag. "Bruh, I know. Stop hitting on my mom." The straw in his hands soon was thrown at me.
Daniel wasn't lying a bit, though. My father says she's always been beautiful, even since the day they met back in High School. And from the pictures they dug up from my grandparent's attic, she looks like she hasn't aged a bit. With her long blackish hair and green eyes, she's mostly where me and my siblings got our looks from.
That's how you age when you're unproblematic and live free.
Turning around, I set the container of wrapped up silverware into a under-head cabinet.
To say I'm nervous was a understatement. And as much as I love my friends dearly, I was indeed nervous to see if they would pull any tricks or anything of the sort. Well, Daniel mostly. But, other than that I felt fine. I have nothing to be scared of, right?
"When is loverboy coming?" I heard Ivy ask. Standing up, I shrugged my shoulders.
"First of all, he's not loverboy," She snickered at me. "And second of all, I haven't talked to him since last night."
As much as I wanted to talk to him today, I didn't want to seem needy or clingy. After all, if he wanted to talk to me he would've texted me first. Or at least that's what Sawyer told me.
But, I was still going to believe him when he told me he was coming and bringing a friend. And if he doesn't end up making it, so what?
Mariah spoke up, "He'll end up coming. Don't worry." She sent me a warm and comforting smile. I nodded my head, agreeing with her. "And if he doesn't, his ass is boring."
I moved my eyes towards the clock above the french glass door. The hands read 6:41.
The annual Fall Festival started at 7 o'clock. It's the busiest day of the season, along with the most fun. It's been happening since my Grandfather first built this place from the ground up. I remember celebrating it as little as 4 years old.
Leaning against the counter in front of me, I stood there and talked to my friends until it was time to open.
Pressure and frustration were the only expressions on my face as I fixed up the 9th hot chocolate of tonight. My annoyance wasn't because we were busy at the moment, considering we had extra workers on hand tonight. The reasoning behind it is because I haven't had a single sign from Louis, or his so-called friend.
I don't know why it upset me so much. I'm sure he had way better things to do and didn't want to be at a silly pumpkin patch for the 3rd night in a row. And besides, work has gotten me caught up and I have worse things to worry about.
Earlier, my friends decided to head out to the corn-maze, or something teenager like that took place at the farm. Which I didn't mind.
The past hour has consisted of two toddlers crying to their parents because they wanted a bag of cotton candy, us almost running out of the stuff to even make the coffee-like items, and much more I can't even think of because I blocked out.
Nights like this were the reason I have a love-hate relationship with my job. The only reason I really have this job still is because my parents make me, cause if they didn't I would be long gone. Although, they always taught my siblings and I that work ethic and being independent at a young age is important and I admired them for that. It's something I will pass down to my own children, even though I complain about having to do it most of the time.
I typed the hot chocolate price into the cash register and took the dollar bills from the man in front of me. He looked about in his 50s, and I'm guessing the woman standing beside him was his wife.
"Thank you, enjoy the festival." I beamed, handing him the warm coffee cup filled with delicious hot chocolate. Thanking me, him and his wife walked out of the stand, hand in hand.
Most old marriages, like those, make my heart warm.
"I can help the next in l-"
My voice was caught off by the dinner bell ringing. My eyes moved toward the entrance, and there he was. The British "lover-boy" I thought wouldn't make it.
I felt my stomach curl in a way I can't explain. I don't know if it was nervousness or me engulfing the same popcorn smell in the past 60 minutes that made me want to throw up.
But, there he stood, holding the door for his friend.
She walked inside, and my eyes widened.
Millie fucking Bobby Brown.
What in the actual hell. My mind filled with confusion.
Now I had two things to be worried about. The fact that I will be serving Millie Bobby Brown, and the fact Louis is here.
I quickly changed my expression once I saw them walking towards my direction. I small waved, Louis smiling at me in return. I gulped. The British boy in front of me spoke up, "Hi." He placed his hands into his pockets. "Ryan, this is Millie. Millie, this is Ryan."
Millie reached her hand out for me to shake. I kindly shook it and gave her a small wave.
He didn't even have to introduce me into her. I already knew who she was, of course. But, you could feel her cheerful energy from a mile away. She was just as nice and kind as people on television said she was.
"Nice to meet you! Louis hasn't shut up about you ever since we got in the ca-"
Louis stepped on her foot, she gasped jokingly. "Excuse me-"
"Do not listen to whatever she tells you," He groaned. "I need the directions to the men's room."
Pointing towards the right of us, he left the two of us sitting there to talk.
Millie exclaimed, "I've never seen Louis so nervous. He's usually the loudest person in the room." She sat on a bar-stool in front of me. "Is that so?" I laughed a bit. She nodded repeatedly at me.
I truly didn't understand what was going on. How the hell is Louis friends with her? Like not that it's a bad thing or anything, of course. But like always, my mind filled with question after question.
"And you're just as pretty as he said you were." My heart. Louis acted the opposite when talking to me, so all of these statements coming from her surprised me.
"That's so sweet of you to say, thank you," I gushed. "Could I get you anything?"
The girl looked above me towards the menu. I saw her eye's go from left to right as she read the menu, trying to decide what she wanted.
"Can I just get a coca cola?"
Nodding, I stated, "Coming right up."
I turned around towards the drink fridge. Opening the glass door, I again got that same chilly feeling I always get by opening it. I grabbed her can of coke and quickly closed the door behind me. I felt goosebumps start to form on my bare thighs.
I turned around to Louis now sitting by Millie, a napkin in his hand and just picking at it. I placed the cold metal can in front of her.
"It's on the house." A smile lit up her face.
My family policy is that friends and family only get discounts or items "on the house." Even though I've only known Millie for about 10 minutes now, I figured she gets added onto that policy.
"Thank you!" My head turned to Louis, "Would you like anything?" He quickly shook his head "no."
I examined their outfits.
The British boy wore a navy gray sweater, with a gold plated chain around his neck. Along with some plain black jeans as well. And Millie, she wore about the same outfit, just more colorful.
Every time I see Louis, I look my absolute worst. With my red polo work shirt and black denim shorts, I'm surprised he's even a bit interested in me. My brunette hair hang long, and my makeup skills were alright. Not the best, but definitely not the worst.
"You two look fantastic."
Louis's face grew red and I heard a small "aw" leave Millie's mouth.
"I mean, look at yours though." She joked, making me laugh. I looked down at my slip on vans and back at them. "This uniform is as good as it gets." Her energetic laugh echoed throughout the room.
Thankfully, we didn't have a lot of customers due to them all out at the farm having a good time. The few we had were taken care of by my coworkers standing a few feet beside me.
Louis didn't talk much. Which went off of what Millie meant when she said he was nervous.
He then spoke up, although, "Where are your friends?" He placed his hands on the white marble counter, intertwining his fingers during it. I placed my hands on my hips.
"Probably at the corn-maze or somewhat. Whenever I get off in like 20 minutes we can go join them if y'all would like?"
Millie nodded in excitement, along with Louis as well.
My grandfather decided to let my coworkers and I off earlier to have fun and spend time doing whatever. Which I appreciated considering this is the one night in a while I've gotten to spend time with my friends, and the first time I've actually gotten to spend time with Louis.
"That sounds like a plan."
