RusAme- A Best Kept Secret
Hey guys! I know it's been awhile but please forgive me for the long hiatus. I just wasn't as into it as I used to be and you guys deserved a better author. However, I'm back and more in the fandom than ever. To celebrate my return to Wattpad and Hetalia, I give you this well deserved RusAme one-shot. A few things before we begin. I'm writing this on my iPad instead of my phone so it may look a little different. Also let me know if you prefer me writing on my iPad or my phone. And this isn't going to as long as my other one-shots since I'm just starting to get my footing back in this. Ok that should be it. Thank you for your patience and enjoy this well deserved one-shot. WARNING: I don't know what warnings to put for this so I'm just going to say 13+.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Some do, some don't. It depends on what your beliefs are really. Can someone just instantly have a deep desire for another person without even getting to know who they really are? Or is love formed from a deep, personal connection that requires years to build? America couldn't really say which it was for him. America had felt so many emotions when he had first met the older country that he couldn't possibly describe them all.
Excitement, happiness, hope, and a bunch of other emotions. All had been flashing in America's eyes simultaneously which had caused Russia to blush at the younger country. To America, meeting Russia was a welcomed relief. Every other country had only ever done one of two things. Try to manipulate resources from him or was content to sit back and watch him fade away from existence. Russia was neither of those things much to America's relief and happiness.
Russia was kind and gentle. Nothing like the other nations had described as. Prussia had told him that Russia was a demon that looked a human that had somehow escaped hell. Sometimes the American thought that Prussia was the one that had escaped from hell. But whatever, we're getting off track , back to the story. Let's take a look into the past when America and Russia first met.
It was at a meeting in Copenhagen where the fated pair first met. America was seated next to Russia and since America was new to the politics of the world, he had obliviously turned to Russia smile in place. "I don't think we've met yet. My name is United States of America but you can call me America. What's your name?" The American asked which caused the Russian to turn towards in surprise. He was immediately blown away by the smile that was on the young nation's face.
It wasn't anything like the smiles he was normally given. This smile held no fear or resentment. No wish to run away from or attack Russia. No, this smile was something Russia had only ever seen from his older sister Ukraine. It was a smile of hope and excitement. Gentle like the petals of a sunflower. Russia couldn't believe that such a smile could be directed at him of all nations but it was. "Hello? Are you okay?" Russia snapped out of his inner thoughts when a hand was waved in front of his face and a voice had called out to him. Russia gave a small smile in return to the America's grin.
"Da, I am alright. I apologize for the spacing out, I'm just not used to people speaking to me." Russia told the smaller nation who tilted his head to the side like a curious puppy causing Russia to internally coo. "'Not used to people talking to you'? What do you mean?" America asked the platinum haired country who winced at the reminder of the immense dislike everyone felt for him. Russia didn't want to talk about it but he resigned that it was better that the younger country hear it from him than someone else.
"I am not well liked, little one. Most nations and humans find me scary." Russia answered waiting for when America would just say 'oh' and turn away like Russia didn't exist no more than fairies did. But he didn't. "Why?" America inquired curiously. Russia felt confused. "Why what?" Russia said looking down at the younger country. "Why do people find you scary?" America asked which caused Russia's mind to go blank. He had never really thought of why others found him scary. They just...did. It had just become so natural to him that he had stopped questioning the origins of it. The sky is blue, the grass is green, and people hated Russia. End of story.
"I guess I never really thought of the reason. It just....happens." That sounded so sad when he said it out loud. He was feared and hated and there was no reason behind it that he could think of. America seemed to have the same idea. "Well that's sad. If it helps, I'm not scared of you." America probably didn't know what weight his words held but for Russia they felt like a whisper of hope in a hopeless world. He felt like crying. "Thank you." Russia muttered out still taken aback by the kind words he had just received. America only smiled at him before sticking out his hand for the older country to shake. "My name is America. It's nice to meet you....?" It took Russia a second to realize that he hadn't given him his name.
Chuckling slightly, Russia reached his hand out to meet the smaller nation's. "Russia. My name is Russia." They both shared a smile with each other happy for the gift of a friend.
That was so long ago. Many things have changed since then. Oceans have risen and empires have fallen but America and Russia seen each other through it all. First they started out as friends both happy just to have some form of companionship in their immortal lives. They visited each other's country as much as they could even with the long travel time. They took walks together and talked about whatever was on their minds. Other countries, the progress of their nations, blackmail they had on other nations. You name it they probably talked about it.
It was almost a hundred years since they had met when Russia felt the first spark of desire. It didn't seem like much at first. America had smiled at him which was nothing new. America smiled at everyone. But this felt different. That smile had the Russian's gut twist in ways he had never thought possible until then. A blush had spread across his pale face as imagined what if. What if that smile was only for him? The thought seemed silly, however as the thought clouded Russia's mind it didn't sound so bad.
Could it be that he was...growing feelings for America? The theory both excited and frightened Russia. He wasn't sure that he was content with just being friends for all of eternity but he didn't want to ruin his only stable friendship. After saying goodbye to America from their latest visit, Russia sat in the cabin of his ship deep in thought. Should he pursue these feelings? He wanted to but what if doing so drove America away from him? Was he willing to risk it all to see if the American felt the same?
He thought about just letting the feelings simmer and be pushed down but then the thought of seeing America in someone else's arms made him feel a sadness like he had felt like no other. Russia resigned to the fact that he was indeed, in love with America and starting making plans to court/woo the other nation.
Too bad Russia didn't actually get to do anything since his government fell not even a week later.
——————————————————
Contrary to popular belief, America wasn't naive.
He knew more than people gave him credit for. So when he had heard rumors about Russia, he didn't believe them. Mostly because he knew the real Russia and knew that they were so far from the truth. Russia was kind and gentle not cruel and merciless, that much America knew. America was young in the world of personifications that much was clear. So according to the older nations that meant that he didn't know anything. He was a baby in a world of adults. A fledgling barely out of the nest. Well, to them he says, screw you.
He may be young but he can be observant of himself and others. So when these...feelings started to appear out of thin air. Well thin air wouldn't be an entirely accurate thought. America had always felt a special connection with Russia. He was the nation he spent most of his time with including his own family so it makes sense that they would have a connection. But the more he thought about it, the more natural it seemed. He and Russia just...clicked. There was no way for America to actually explain it.
America thinks—no he knows when he realized his feelings for the Russian was when they were walking through a sunflower field. Russia had smiled at the flower before picking one and smelling it. Russia commented on the beautiful of the flower but America wasn't paying attention to what the older nation was saying. He was more focused on the smile that was pulling at the Russian's lips. America didn't get how people could call that smile creepy. To America, it was beautiful. Maybe it wasn't the smile itself that made him fall. Maybe it was what hid behind it.
America could see the pain behind that smile. The pain of never of having friends and being an outcast most if not all his life. That thought made America sad for the Russian. He couldn't ever have imagined what the other must have gone through before America showed up. But that doesn't matter now. Now that America's here, Russia will never be alone again. He'll make sure of it. America accepts Russia with all his pain and he wants him to know that with all his heart.
Now as America watches Russia's ship sail off into the sunset, he decided that he would confess his feelings the next time he saw the Russian. With that thought in mind, America turned away smiling unaware that that time wouldn't come for a rather long time.
———————————
Turns out it's hard to confess your feelings for another country when their government has fallen and they've been replaced with someone who is unfamiliar to you. Everyone else may think that Russia was still there but America knew better than that. That thing isn't Russia. It may look, sound, and try to act like him, but that isn't Russia. That isn't the man America fell in love with.
So America tried everything he could to bring back Russia. Of course he was alone in this endeavor since no one else seemed to notice the switch. When America first saw what Russia had turned into, he made a plan of how to bring him back. America figured that since his government falling had changed him, toppling his current government meant that he would get the original Russia back.
So that's what America did. He campaigned against communism butting heads with more than his fair share of nations including Russia himself. America didn't really care what they thought though. He had a mission to complete and he wasn't going to let anyone's damn opinion stop him. The American didn't think he was making much progress until 1991 when the Soviet Union finally fell. America had been watching TV when it came on the news. He was overcome with joy and he immediately took a private plane to the fallen country to see if his theory had been correct.
It must have been because when he arrived at Russia's house, he found the older country sitting on the steps with a smile on his face. The new Russia never smiled unless it was to be cruel to someone and scare them. But that wasn't the case here. America could clearly see that was the smile he had fallen in love with. That beautifully pained smile. America couldn't resist calling out to him.
"Hey Ivan!" Alfred yelled causing Ivan to look up in his direction after he heard the familiar voice. He smiled even more at the sight of the blonde American as he stood up from the step he had been sitting on. "Alfred!" They both started running towards each other before coming into contact with one another in the form of a hug. They held each other tightly thinking if they let go the other would disappear. They had every reason to be worried as they had been apart for so long. Alfred had his head buried into Ivan's shoulder when he pulled his head away to look the Russian in the eyes.
"I can't believe I got you back." The sunny blonde whispered tears forming in his sapphire blue eyes as he raised a hand to gently cup Ivan's jaw. Ivan let out a chuckle tightening his grip on the younger's waist. "I do. You were always so much smarter than everyone gave you credit for, Fredka." Ah that nickname. Alfred hadn't heard that nickname in so long that he could help his smile growing bigger. "You're right about that, Vanya." America smirked back. A silence fell over them as they stared into each other's eyes.
There were so many things to say and yet so few words to say them in. So Alfred just surged forward and connected his lips with Ivan's. Ivan's eyebrows were raised in surprise at the sudden act of affection though he wasn't complaining. Ivan pressed his lips back against Alfred internally smiling. He had been wanting to do this for so long so imagine his surprise when the object of his desire made the first move.
Alfred licked Ivan's bottom lip asking for entrance which the Russian granted. Their tongues played with each other before they had to separate due to lack of oxygen. They were both panting harshly but were smiling as well. The relief and acceptance they both felt was overwhelming them. It had taken more than a century but they finally found each other and were happy that nothing could stand between them now.
————————————
Now into the present where Russia and America have been dating for nearly thirty years now. They were actually considering getting married though there was a small problem. No one knew that they were together. Now you're probably wondering why they haven't told anyone yet. Well, they were worried that the rest of the personifications wouldn't approve of their relationship and would try to separate them.
They had already been away from each other for too long and they weren't willing to be separated again. Never again. So for now, they keep their relationship a secret from both their bosses and their fellow personifications. Waiting until the appropriate time to reveal it to the world. They have parts to play. Rivals on both the political and ideal fields to the rest of the world but lovers and soulmates in secret. It was hard not to be affectionate with each other in public but it was the price they payed.
Everything was going fine until one day when a slip up revealed their relationship to the entire world.
———————————
It was during lunch at a world meeting in Moscow where America was sitting at a table with Denmark, Prussia, Spain, and France. Russia was sitting with his older and younger sisters, Belarus and Ukraine. America wanted to sit with his boyfriend but that would only draw suspension that they didn't need.
Currently America was silently eating his salad since the current topic involved discussing recent hook ups. America couldn't contribute since the only person he slept with was Russia and he obviously couldn't tell them that. "There was this blonde I had last night. She was really sexy and an awesome rack." Denmark gloated cocky smirk in place causing America to internally roll his eyes. "You seem to have a thing for blondes, amigo. Does it have anything to do with..?" Spain sent a side look towards America which went unnoticed by the blue eyed nation who was picking at his salad.
Denmark blushed at the indication before scoffing. "Shut up." He grumbled earning bouts of laugher from everyone but America. Speaking of America. "Amérique~ how many romantic partners have you had recently?" France purred snaking an arm around the American to which the younger shrugged it off. "None." He answered much to the shock of the other occupants of the table. "None?! Amerika jou must be joking." Prussia said his tone almost begging for America to laugh and tell him it was a joke.
"I'm not. I haven't slept with anyone recently." That was actually the truth. He and Russia had been being hounded by their bosses for the last few months so they couldn't sneak away to have some alone time. "No one? Then you must be a virgin." Spain determined confidently only to have that confidence diminished when America shook his head. "I'm not a virgin either." He told them. "Then why don't have more partners?" Denmark asked speaking up for the first time since they entered this conversation.
America didn't think to clearly about what he said next.
"Because I'm pretty sure my boyfriend would mind." He retorted before freezing as the words fell from his mouth. Did he just..aw crap. America turned to rebut that statement but found it was too late since apparently Hungary had been listening as she pushed Prussia out of his chair before sitting down. She smirked at the younger nation her gaze more predatory than that of France's own.
"Boyfriend you say? Tell me all about him~." The Hungarian commanded smirk never her face. Before America could say anything, Prussia let out a hiss at Hungary. "You crazy bitch, what was that for?" The Prussian growled. Hungary did nothing except flip Prussia the bird not taking her eyes off America the entire time. "So? I'm waiting." Hungary encouraged. America blushed a little at the smirk on the Hungarian woman's face. "There's not really much to tell...." America said nervously scratching his head as he spoke.
"Is he human? Is he one of us? How long have you two been together? Is he treating you right?" Hungary hounded casing America to nervously sweat at the endless questioning. "Uh.." America wasn't sure what to say. He knew he couldn't tell her the truth but he also couldn't lie to her either. (Hungary always knows when someone is lying to her). Thankfully America didn't have to come up with an excuse because a familiar stern voice interrupted their conversation.
"LUNCH IZ OVER! EVERYONE RETURN TO ZHE MEETING ROOM!"
Germany yelled causing a few nearby nations to groan. Germany always seemed to have some internal clock that was in tune with their meeting schedules. America, thankful for Germany's persistent punctuation for once, quickly grabbed his briefcase and his unfinished meal before tossing the salad in the nearby trash can. As the American walked away he heard Hungary shout, "THIS ISN'T OVER, AMERIKA!!". America could practically hear the smirk in her voice.
Her shout drew attention towards the retreating America who blushed embarrassed at all the sudden pairs of eyes on him. Hopefully the meeting will end soon and he could just slip out before the older nation got her claws into him.
——————————
And so when the meeting ended, America was the first one out the door not sparing Hungary a glance as she called out to him. "Amerika! Amerika, wait!" The brunette called out trying to catch up with the surprisingly fast American. America wasn't about to get caught by her but he knew that Hungary was as stubborn as he was so they were at a crossroads now.
That was until Hungary yelled out, "Can someone grab him for me?". America knew he was screwed because Turkey just happened to be talking (more like arguing) with Greece. He knew that Turkey at least respect Hungary so when he turned around and stood between America and the door, the young blonde wasn't surprised. "What's the rush, Amerika? Hungary just wants to talk to you." The Turk stated smoothly. Turkey clearly did know what the situation was but he seemed interested in what had the usual brave America running away from a nation half his size.
He wasn't running away, thank you very much! He just didn't want Hungary trying to catch him and make him squeal about his love life. Hungary caught up to them and flashed Turkey a smile. "Thank jou, Turkey. Now I can make him tell me all about his boyfriend~." Hungary snickered mischievously smirk in its place. If Turkey wasn't interested before, he sure was now. "Boyfriend? Since when did you get a boyfriend?" Turkey asked an eyebrow raised at the American nation. America resisted the urge to roll his eyes.
"Since it's none of your business. I'm not legally obligated to tell you every detail of my personal life." America told the two Europeans who huffed at his words. "Technically you are. If you're dating a human, you have to tell everyone since it could risk our secret getting out." Hungary said insistently. America was so done with this. "Why does everyone always assume that I'm going to be the one that reveals it? Just because you think I'm going to do something doesn't give you the right to poke into my personal life. Now if you excuse me, I'm meeting my boyfriend for dinner." With that America pushed passed them, exiting the building while they watched his back fade more and more until he was out of sight.
"That didn't seem like it went very well." Greece said yawning tiredly even though he had just awoken from a nap. "No shit it went bad, dumbass. He didn't tell us anything." Turkey grumbled crossing his arms in irritation. Hungary was feeling the same when she remembered something America had said. "Maybe he did." Hungary said gazing at the door with gleaming eyes.
—————————
"What were Hungary and Turkey stopping you for, sunflower?" Ivan asked Alfred who shrugged swallowing a mouth full of food. "It's nothing important." Alfred waved him off but the Russian wasn't satisfied with that. "It must be important for two nations, whom you have never spoken with personally by the way, to stop you abruptly in the hallway." Ivan pointed out putting down the fork he had been holding.
Alfred let out a sigh and leaned back in his chair. "I accidentally let it slip that I have a boyfriend." Alfred confessed reluctantly. Seeing Ivan's surprised face, the sunny blonde started rambling. "It slipped out on accident. A few countries were asking me about uh, my bed partners when I told them that I didn't think my boyfriend would like that very much. Hungary must've overheard and now she won't stop hounding me about it. Sorry." Alfred looked at down at his lap ashamed.
After decades of being together in secret, Alfred had potential just thrown it all away before Ivan was comfortable with revealing their relationship. He really is such a hamburger loving idiot, isn't he? As if sensing his self-destructive train of thought, Ivan gently grabbed the younger hands and linked them together with his. They had taken off there gloves as soon as they had left the meeting so the skin on skin contact was much appreciated.
"Don't worry, podsolnukh. It is not your fault, you were merely answering a question. (An inappropriate one at that). And maybe this is a sign." The Russian said smiling at the American who raised an eyebrow at the older's last sentence. "A sign? A sign for what?" Alfred asked as his brain started to go all kinds of places. Was Ivan going to break up with him? Was he going to yell at him for almost revealing their relationship? "I think it's time we tell everyone about us." Now that, Alfred wasn't expecting. "What? Really? Are you sure?" The other blonde asked uncertain of whether or not the older man was serious.
"Da. We have spent too long in the shadows and even though we've done it together, I would like to hold your hand at meetings or eat lunch with you. We aren't ashamed of each other, so why must we hide any longer?" Ivan did have a point. They had been together for almost thirty years and were almost considering getting married at this point. So why should they hide anymore? It's not like they cared about what anyone thought. It's just that they both had this fear of being torn away from each other that most likely stemmed from being on opposite sides of history for so long.
And another thing was the communist/capitalist part of their relationship. Granted Ivan was no longer communist and Alfred had severely mellowed out since the days of the Cold War, it was still a major part of their past as a couple and as nations. Even though Alfred was now somewhat calm when it came to different forms of government, his campaign against communism a few decades prior had left a bad taste in a few nations mouths. But now things had changed.
It was the twenty first century and things were different from how they were back then. And as long as Alfred had Ivan by his side, he was sure he could take on the world. Alfred smiled at Ivan squeezing his hands. "I guess you're right, snowflake. Maybe it is time to step out into the light." Alfred agreed causing an even bigger smile to form on the Russian's face. "So it is settled then, tomorrow we tell everyone about us." With that said Ivan leaned in to place a tender kiss on Alfred's lips to which the younger gently kissed him back.
However, both were unaware that Hungary was sitting in some nearby bushes with a shocked Turkey and a sleeping Greece, snapping pictures of the couple as they talked. Though all participating parties were unaware of the plans the other had made, one thing was for certain.
Tomorrow was going to be interesting.
—————————————
The next day, Russia and America stood at the front doors of the world meeting building. Today was the day when they were going to tell the world that they had been together for almost three decades now. America was a little nervous about the whole thing. What if it blew up in their faces and everyone started yelling at them? What if America's family hated him even more than they already did? All the 'what ifs' and the 'what could happen' were starting to make the younger nation's head spin.
America must have been frowning because he felt Russia link his hand with his own just like he had done the previous night at dinner. Russia used his other hand to grab America's chin so now sky blue made contact with everlasting violet. Russia had that small smile on his face that America treasured the sight of every time. Russia had been through so much both as a nation and as a person so the fact that he could still smile both amazed and awed the American nation.
"Everything is going to be ok, da? No matter what happens we will always have each other." The Russian told him to which he nodded now smiling and pecked Russia on the cheek. Russia blushed at the sudden display of affection in public but never stopped smiling. "Shall we, my love?" America said cheekily letting go of Russia's hand so that he could open the door for him. The Russian rolled his eyes at the American but still smiled all the same at his goofy boyfriend. "Such a gentleman~." Russia teased walking through the door. He heard it close behind him as America joined him linking their hands once again.
They walked the way towards the meeting room talking about different topics such as space and how they think everyone will react to the news of them being together. Before either of them realized it, they were standing in front of the meeting room hand in hand. Russia patted America on the back with his free hand before reaching to open the meeting room door. The door creaked open drawing attention away from what had previously been going on.
As the couple entered hand in hand, it was confirmed that the photos they had just saw were indeed real and not fake.
The world was in shock.
Oh, you're all probably confused. Well let's go back in time.
TEN MINUTES EARLIER
Hungary marched into the meeting room a rather large folder tucked underneath her arm. As she walked towards the head of the table, excitement and smugness exuded her very being making the few nations around her curious. Whatever she had done, she seemed really proud to have done it. As Hungary took a seat at the head of the table, she plopped the folder down onto said table. The slam echoed throughout the rather large meeting room causing even more attention to be drawn to the Hungarian and the folder she had been carrying.
Italy was the first one to ask. "Ve~ Miss Hungary, what is-a in that folder?" The Italian asked pointing at the large folder curiously. Hungary smiled mischievously at the auburn haired nation. "Something you'll all want to see, everyone gather around!" At Hungary's command, nearly every nation that could gathered around the old nation. Hungary took the band that had been binding the folder off and pulled out the pictures that were in it. The photos were shocking.
The pictures showed America and Russia holding hands and kissing. China picked up a picture of the Cold War pair kissing confusion written on his old face. "This photoshopped, aru?" The ancient nation asked Hungary who shook her head. "Nope. Those are 100% genuine pictures." Hungary told him causing the confusion to morph into a slight anger. How dare Russia not tell him? Tell him that he was dating America of all nations? The nerve of him. Russia was one of his oldest allies so to have such a secret kept from him was...hurting to say the least.
"It seems Russia and little Amerika are dating. How about that?" Turkey smirked from where he was leaning against the wall mask in place. "This is disturbing!" Cuba gagged along with Prussia who wasn't too keen on seeing one of his best friends with one of his enemies. Canada put his bear aside to grab a photo that showed America and Russia smiling at each other. As Canada gazed down at the photo, at his younger brother's smile, he couldn't help but think. He had never seen America smile like that with anyone, not even him. The Canadian was happy that his brother was happy but not being told about made him sad that his brother didn't trust him enough to tell him about his boyfriend.
Ukraine was feeling the same was as she looked at the array of photos strewn across the meeting table. Her siblings were all she had in terms of blood family so she made it a point to look after them and keep them safe even if she was a little naive at times. So the fact that her brother, her own flesh and blood, didn't trust her enough to tell her stung. It really stung. But on the plus side she was happy for Russia. He had found someone who could be there when she couldn't and that softened the blow of mistrust.
Belarus seemed surprisingly okay with it considering it was her beloved older brother. She had a small, non-crazy smile on her face as she looked at the photo of her smiling brother. If he was happy, then she was happy. That's all that mattered to her.
Some nations seemed fine with it while others looked decently disturbed by the notion that America and Russia were involved. There was so much animosity between the two that the fact that they actually looked happy together was rather scary. While everyone was freaking out in some way or another, a loud creek interrupted the chaos and everyone turned to see the couple of the hour entering hand in hand.
BACK TO THE PRESENT
The sight of the two superpowers holding hands was the final nail in the coffin for everyone. It was officially confirmed. Russia and America are dating. Immediately nations rushed the two shocked blondes who were unaware of the photos their fellow nations had just viewed.
"Is it true?!"
"Are you guys dating, ve~?"
"America, please tell this isn't true!"
"Russia, you idiot, what were you thinking?"
The yelling made America curl into Russia whom separated their hands to wrap his arm around the younger's waist. America was used to yelling. He got yelled at at almost every meeting but since he was already insecure about how the others would react, their yelling just made the American wanted to keep his Russian boyfriend close for fear of separation. Russia was pissed at the sight of his love cowering into him like a frightened kitten. He looked out at the nations that seemed to have nothing better to do than yell at him and America for something that went even their business.
Wrapping another arm around America, Russia turned them around so that his back is facing the other countries and shielding his beloved from the yelling. It was when Russia felt his chest to slightly wet that he finally snapped. "SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" Russia shouted. And oh god did he shout. Later most would recount it as more of a roar. A roar of a wild animal that was protecting its mate. More than a few people backed up at that. Russia never shouted at anyone. And I mean never.
"Will you all just leave us alone? We were coming in here to tell you about us, you idioty! I thought you would at least try and let us explain why we kept it a secret, but I guess I was wrong. Now if you excuse us, we are leaving. Don't expect us back." Russia made haste towards the door but stopped when a voice called out to him.
"Little brother, please wait!" Russia turned around to face Ukraine whom had tears in her baby blue eyes. "Don't go." She begged him. Russia was facing them and held a crying America in his arms. Now that throw everyone through for loop. They had made America cry. They had made America, the strongest nation both physically and mentally, cry. And they didn't even know how or why.
"Why is he-a crying?" Italy asked timidly taking a step towards the two taller nations. Russia growled at the approaching nation who, upon hearing the Russian literally growl, quickly retreated back to hide behind Germany. "He's scared." Russia answered rubbing soothing circles in his lover's back trying to sooth the crying nation. Cuba scoffed. "Try again, Russia. The only that idiot is scared of is actually working." The Cuban said in a matter-of-fact tone that had a few of America's enemies laughing.
"Shut your face, Cuba!" Russia snapped at the younger nation who recoiled in surprise at having the older nation yell at him. Russia was always on his side when it came, I guess that changed now. Ukraine could tell Russia was getting tense as America's cries grew louder. She knew that she had to defuse the situation before something bad happened.
So she did the only thing she could think of.
Both Russia and America tensed when lithe arms wrapped them as Ukraine pulled herself closer to them. She was whispering loving words in Ukrainian to them while the world watched. "I'm so sorry you two." Ukraine apologized to the couple. Russia could feel some of his rage melt away at the sight of his older sister's smile. He could never be mad at Ukraine. The Ukrainian nation looked up at the two taller nations, a feeling of realization passed through her. America kept looking at Russia out of the corner of his eye panic coating his pupil and iris. Russia was doing the same thing however it may have been a subconscious thing for him.
Ukraine was very much aware of Russia's abandonment issues. When Mongolia invaded their lands, he separated Russia from her and Belarus giving no explanation than personifications that remain in their own lands are more powerful than ones who don't. When they were finally reunited, Russia had cried and refused to let her or Belarus go no matter how much they told him they weren't going anywhere.
It seemed that America had the same thing going on with him. Ukraine had heard that England hadn't been the best parent to the powerful nation, leaving him alone more than once when he was just a child. And the fact that he was separated from his brothers when the settlers came probably didn't help either.
"You two are scared of being separated, aren't you?" Ukraine inquired gently. A few nearby nations heard her but said nothing as to not aggravate the situation more. The last thing anyone need was two superpowers going berserk. "Y...Yeah." America muttered still holding onto the Russian like the older nation would disappear. Russia nodded his head at his sister as his answer. That was all Ukraine need to know. "How about you two go back to the hotel and take care of each other? I'll explain everything to them." She told them.
The light blonde received two confused but thankful nods and with that the two former rivals exited the room leaving a room of really confused, angry and hurt nations and one understanding nation.

After the two left, Ukraine told (ordered) everyone to sit in their assigned seats. She sat down in her seat once everyone else was seated and spoke. "I know that the revelation of Russia and America dating has thrown us all for a loop, but we have to put that aside now." Ukraine started to speak. She was go to continue but someone else spoke up. "How the hell are we supposed to forget something like that!? They're both mentally unstable superpowers that are in a relationship! Eventually someone's going to say the wrong thing and the entire world is going to blow to freakin' kingdom come!" Cuba yelled drawing a few noises of agreement from nations like China and Afghanistan.
"Quiet down." A dark, eerie voice commanded. The voice was traced back to Belarus who had her knives out and was ready to aim and fire. It's safe to say the room went quiet after that. Ukraine nodded her thanks to Belarus before continuing what she was saying before. "As I was saying, we need to put that aside for now." Cuba looked ready to interrupt until Belarus raised a knife in his direction. Then he just looked away huffing. "No matter if you approve of their relationship or not, do not interfere with it. I'm saying this because I have a theory that both my brother and America suffer from Athazagoraphobia and Separation Anxiety Disorder (SAD)." That only brought more confusion. "What are those, aru?" China asked the Ukrainian nation.
"Athazagoraphobia is the technical name for the fear of being forgotten, ignored, or abandoned. Separation Anxiety Disorder is when a person has a lot of anxiety about being separated from home or the ones they love. Both of these most likely stem from past abandonment or something similar to that. Now that my brother and America have each other, they're worried that someone or something will try to take them apart." Ukraine explained to the table of nations.
Looks of regret, remorse, sadness, and most of all guilt flashed on the faces of every nation at the table. Now that it was more clear to them what was going on, they felt stupid for how they reacted. It wasn't their business and the fact that America and Russia actually feared being forced away from each other only made it worse. "Can ve fix zhis?" Prussia asked Ukraine whom nodded at the fallen kingdom.
"Yes, you all just have to promise me one thing." Ukraine said a serious expression crossing her face. "Anything." South Korea said. He had mentally judged America so hard after he found out he was with Russia. The Korean War was a wound that had barley scabbed over in the South Korean's mind but he was willing to forget that if it meant preserving his friendship with America.
"Don't try to separate them. They both share those issues I just told you about and it would be great if they didn't have to constantly worry about one or more of you getting in the way." Ukraine said feeling satisfied when nods and swearing statements accompanied her demand. "Now that that's all settled, I'll call Russia so that he and America can come back to the meeting." Ukraine stated happily. The European nation pulled her phone out of her pocket and exited the room for privacy.
A few minutes later Ukraine came back into the room informing everyone that the pair of lovers would be arriving in thirty minutes. Then the usual chaos started with chairs being thrown and war cries being shouted triumphantly. Thirty minutes passed and before anyone knew it, the two powerhouse nations were walking through the door hand in hand like they had less than an hour ago.
It was awkwardly silent for about a minute before the chaos continued as Russia and America made their way to their seats. They weren't assigned to sit together since they usually argued at meetings, however they didn't feel like being separated from one another at the moment. A few nations looked over at the now conversing couple curiously. It was rather odd to see Russia and America so close due to the number of times they'd been restrained after getting into fist fights with each other.
They used to glare at each other with such hatred in their eyes and now it's been reduced to pure, unadulterated love and desire. It was too strange a sight for some. But others like Hungary and Japan couldn't help but go Gaga for the new pair. Their ship had finally sailed. As Russia and America were talking, Italy and South Korea approached them. "Ve~ America? Russia? Could we-a talk?" The Italian asked timidly scratching the back of his head nervously. America smiled one his normal, Hollywood megawatt smiles. "Sure dudes." America turned his chair to face the other two nations.
They were relieved that America seemed to be acting like his old self. Though if you looked deep into those sky blue eyes, you could see the uncertainty they held. "We just wanted to apologize for how we reacted to your and Russia's relationship. It was immature and definitely something that shouldn't have originated in me, Da-ze..." South Korea looked down ashamed. Italy looked the same. America felt his heart squeeze at the sight of two of his friends looking so disappointed with themselves.
"It's ok. I understand how you guys feel, I'm sorry I had to keep this from you but I was worried." America's big grin melted down into a soft smile that many weren't aware he was capable of. Italy and South Korea didn't need him to say anything more. Now they knew that their best friend had fears just like anyone else and they accepted that. Before America knew what was happening, the two smaller nations had dragged him into a hug.
America smiled as he gently wrapped his arms around the other nations. The younger nation looked over the heads of his two friends to see Russia smiling softly at them. America watched Ukraine, Belarus, and the Baltic states slowly approach Russia to which he couldn't help but grin. Sometimes Russia thinks he's all alone in the world but that couldn't be farther from the truth. He has him, his sisters, the Baltic states, and all the readers out there. (I do believe I just broke the fourth wall).
"Ahem." America looked over to see his older brother Canada standing there awkwardly. The American released Italy and South Korea from his arms and made his way towards the Canadian nation. "America, I—" Canada didn't get to finish his sentence due to America pulling him into a bear hug. Canada, in his shocked state, hugged his younger brother back with as much strength as the American hugged him. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Mattie. I was just scared about..." Canada seemed to know what he was going to say because he just shook his head and spoke.
"I know, Alfred, I know. You don't have to be scared anymore." Canada told him smiling slightly at his brother whom felt like he was going to cry. It felt like a huge weight had just been lifted off his shoulders now that he didn't have to hide his relationship from everyone. And as he looked over at Russia and the other smiled and nodded at him, he could tell the other felt the same as he did.

Wow I guess I kinda went overboard there. Nearly 8000 glorious words to make this and I'm proud of it. Hey guys! Any thoughts to share?
