( 𝟎𝟕𝟏 ) escaping terminus

— CANNIBALS. NATE COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT Terminus was basically a front for something mere sinister, for something that was worse than the Dixon man could ever imagine even possible; the group had been through a lot, with the CDC, Shane, the prisoners at the prison and The Governor, but through all of them, nothing could have done prepared them for something like this. When Nate and the rest or the group entered Terminus, they were expecting the worst, something like The Governor's town, or something that was bad behind closed doors, but to find out that they were relentlessly killing anyone who entered their sanctuary, and doing monstrous things to them to stay alive was a crazy situation — when Nate saw a dead body being chopped up like they were planning on cooking them, and they had given them all a plate of that food, made Nate sick to his stomach. The second Nate's wrists and ankles were untied, he sprung up and helped take down the people that had tried to kill them, knowing that they had to be quick in order to get their people out of her alive, "If they got problems, we got a chance." Rick stated, as Nate pulled the gag off of his face and pulled the zip ties away from himself, throwing them all to the side.

"It sounded like a bomb." Glenn said, as Nate instantly nodded, heading over to the table which held many weapons that the people tried to kill them with, taking a machete in his hands for protection in case any of these people came back to finish what they started. The whole thing was a crazy situation, none of them knew what to exactly do about this, they just knew that they had to get the rest of their people from the train car, and get the hell out of here alive. Trying to move around at this speed still hurt Nate, his face was still sore from being beaten up shortly before this, and he still had a large cut on his stomach that was still hurting him, that had started healing only slightly, but still gave him a tremendous amount of pain, and probably would be until he was fully healed; so moving around hurt, but the man still moved around and hurried around none the less, grabbing a weapon and getting ready to get the others, and get Zoe back.

"Sounds like a damn war." Daryl pointed out, as the five men could hear commotion outside like everyone was fighting, they could hear walkers, gun shots, shouts, screams and fearful yelling that everyone needed to gather and help defend Terminus.

"What the hell are these people?" Bob asked, finally standing up after Rick had untied him, Daryl joining Nate's side in grabbing a weapon for himself, ready to make a run to get out of this building to their people again.

"They ain't people." Daryl said, as they all looked over at the dead body on the table with an uneasy look on their faces, it was when Bob tried to push his knife into one of the mens head to prevent him from turning, did Rick stop him, knowing that he deserved to turn into a walker, to suffer from his actions in this world. Following behind his brother into another room, Nate felt bile rise up his throat as he saw multiple torsos handing up, murky old chunks of flesh chopped off of the body, with buckets filled with even more flesh, blood and knives littered around like some sort of slaughter house.

"Cross any of these people, you kill them." Rick told his people, disgusted at what he was seeing and what these people stand for, "Don't hesitate.. They won't." He added, knowing that these people needed to be put down so they cannot do this to anyone else, they needed to be taken away from this world, forever. More gunfire echoed in the distance, as well as men shouting, panicked and fearful about the attacks on their sanctuary, yet none of them could feel sympathy for them, especially after seeing this room, and knowing what they do. Heading to the back door, they all looked out of the window of the door, seeing multiple walkers around a train car, probably filled up with even more innocent people, "If we run, we can get by them. They're distracted." He said, already figuring out a way to get to their people and get them out of here.

This didn't exactly sit well with Glenn, though, since he felt like they should let the people who were stuck, unable to get out, and if they didn't get help, they would most likely die; Nate agreed with him in some way, but at the same time, all he truly cared about was getting their people out of here, especially Zoe and Nate. "We got to let those people out. That's still who are, it's got to be." Glenn told Rick, not wanting to loose sight of the kind of people they truly were; they still helped people, they were still good people, no matter what had happened to them.

So they opened the door and headed out into the open, sticking close to one another with their knives and machetes, careful of the walkers around them all, heading towards the train car and killing the walker around it. Nate threw down his machete on a walkers skull, killing it instantly as his brother did the same besides him, when they heard a man shouting within the train car, asking for help once they heard all of the commotion outside of their place in the train car Nate helped yank open the door, when the man inside came sprinting out, looking like he had gone completely mad after being locked inside for so long, it made him wonder just how long all of these people had been locked up for, and wonder what they were going to get if they opened up more doors. Rushing around the corner, the five men looked for their next chance to run through the crowd of walkers, but there were too many to count, and they all couldn't make it without some injury occurring. Glenn didn't look happy at all at what had just happened to that man, being pushed away and bitten by a walker, and Nate didn't even blame him, the whole thing was crazy. Daryl held his hand against Glenn to stop him from doing anything else, knowing that the man was too kind to people they didn't even know.

When Bob suggested that they double back due to the amount of walkers around them, Rick shook his head, "We go back, we don't know where we are." He tried to reason with the others, none of them truly knowing what to do.

"We don't really have a choice, do we?" Daryl pointed out, hearing even more gunshots in the distance.

Nate panicked that they would be caught by the cannibals, the last way he wanted to die, was to be dinner to one of these people, "We gotta figure out something, fast." He said, glancing around nervously.

Walkers dropped dead from their place a few feet away from them, being shot in the head when Rick rushed off towards the gunshots, the others watching in shock and annoyance; Daryl gave Nate a look as to say 'make sure Glenn doesn't do anything stupid', which he nodded at, then watching as he ran off after Rick. A minute and some more gunshots later, Rick and Daryl came back with some more guns, handing one to Bob as Nate readjusted the machete in his hands, ready to make another run for it, ready to get their family back.

Back in the locked train car, Zoe was pacing back and forth, stressing out about the fact that Rick, Nate, Daryl, Glenn and Bob were not back yet, it had been a while and she was scared about what was happening to them. The girl had only just gotten her family back after all of this time apart, she couldn't loose them again, she wouldn't be able to live with herself; the second she felt Nate's hand rip away from hers, panic immediately overwhelmed her, from having nearly lost Nate just a night before, the panic she had been feeling since being reunited with Rick, Daryl, Michonne, Nate and Daryl, had been overwhelming, and she was exhausted. Zoe stopped in her tracks when Maggie stepped in front of her, holding out a makeshift weapon that she had made from a part of the wood on the side of the door to the train car, because Maggie believed that they were going to get out of here alive, she believed that Rick and the others were going to come back to them, no matter what Abraham said about them, and no matter what his friends also thought; they knew their people, and they knew what they could do.

Zoe gave the woman a small nod as to say thankyou, taking the makeshift weapon in her hands thankfully, when they both heard Sasha finally speak up from behind them both, "What's the cure, Eugene?" The woman asked, asking the question that everyone wanted the answer to — Zoe just couldn't come to terms with the fact that there may be a cure out there; this disease had plagued the entire world, and nothing would change what had already happened, and how many people had died because of it.

Eugene didn't look up from his hands as he spoke up, "It's classified." Is all he replied, making Zoe roll her eyes at his words, knowing that if she had the cure and knew how to make it, she would tell as many people as she possibly could in case anything happened to her.

"We don't know what's going to happen." Michonne pointed out, as Zoe moved to stand next to her.

She just couldn't understand why this man was so secretive about the cure, and what it was all about, since they had met Eugene, he hadn't told them a single thing other than the fact that he had to get to Washington; throughout their time of being stuck in this train car, Zoe truly knew nothing about him, just the fact that he knew of a cure, one that he wouldn't tell anyone about. "I don't understand why you're so secretive about it, I would want everyone possible to know about it." She ended up saying, Michonne nodding besides her at her words, agreeing.

"You leave him be." Abraham told the three women, acting as Eugene's personal bodyguard, for reasons that no one truly understood, obviously the man wanted the cure, but Zoe just sensed something wrong about the scientist, and she couldn't put her finger on it.

"We need to keep working." Maggie said, not wanting to stop preparing for when Glenn and the others came back, she wanted to make sure they they all had the upper hand also, when the people of Terminus may come back.

"Yeah, but we need to hear it, 'cause we don't know what's coming next." Sasha said, knowing that they could all die soon, especially since something seemed to be happening outside of the train car they were all trapped in.

"What's next is we get out of this." Tara then said, not liking all of the talk about dying here, because that was the last thing she planned on doing today.

"Even if I told you all, even if I provided step-by-step instructions complete with illustrations and a well-composed FAQ and I went red wing, the fire would still die with me." Eugene explained, looking up at Zoe especially after the comment she made, but the girl merely raising a brow at him, still not believing him like the others did. When Abraham claimed that Eugene dying would never happen, Eugene spoke up again, "The best case scenario, we step out into a hellstorm of bullets, fire and walkers. I'm not fleet of foot. I sure as hell can't take a dead one down with sharp buttons and hella confidence." He told everyone, doubting their abilities.

"Yeah, but we can, and we will." Michonne stated, also not liking the scientists doubt of them all, but he didn't know them, and he didn't know what they were capable of.

Sasha stood up, "You don't owe us anything. Not yet. But we just want to hear it." She said, knowing that she didn't want to take no for an answer.

"You don't have to." Rosita told Eugene, causing Zoe to roll her eyes yet again at the new people to the group and their whole cure business, something she just couldn't understand.

But when Eugene finally stood up, Zoe moved a little closer to hear what he had to say, "I was part of a ten person team at the Human Genome Project to weaponise diseases to fight weaponised diseases. Pathogenic microorganisms with pathogenic microorganisms. Fire with fire. Interdepartmental drinks were had, relationships made, information shared. I am keenly aware of all the details behind fail-safe delivery systems to kill every living person on this planet. I believe with a little tweaking on the terminals in DC, we can flip the script. Take out every last dead one of them. Fire with fire." Eugene explained, Zoe not exactly knowing much about what he just said, but looking around at everyone that was focused on Eugene, "All things being equal, it does sound pretty badass." The man added, nodding with a smirk on his face as more gunshots were heard outside of the train car.

"So, let's get back to work." Maggie said again, when they heard the door to their car rattle, everyone jumping in shock when it sounded like someone was trying to get in.

Zoe instantly rushed to Carl's side, ready to protect him if the people of Terminus came to take even more of them; she would die before letting them take Carl away, if the others were truly gone, they would be next, and she would fight to the death.. But when the door finally opened up, the girl saw her father, "Come on! Fight to the fence!" He shouted at everyone, revealing the mayhem behind him with the countless amounts of walkers, each of their people fighting them off and waiting for the rest of them to get out of the train car, ready to escape.
Zoe didn't think twice before grabbing Carl and rushing out of the train car, their father instantly rushing to their side before everyone began fighting, the girl shoving her makeshift weapon into a walkers skull closest to him, kicking another back, until she felt a hand wrap around hers, the girl instantly knowing that it was Nate and feeling a small smile reach her face, squeezing his hand right as the couple fought side by side as they moved along together to the back fence.

Zoe kicked a walker back, allowing Nate to shove his machete into its head, killing it instantly as it dropped down to the ground, before rushing along again, repeating their process with two more walkers, working together to take down the dead around them all. The whole group carried on killing the walkers as they rushed towards the fence, Rick covering them as he shot at a few Terminus people on the roof — Daryl propped Zoe up on his hands to help her climb over after doing the same with Carl, before helping his brother over and following behind, all of the group eventually making it over and escaping into the woods, away from the burning sanctuary. Zoe and Nate just couldn't feel sorry for any of the people living there, knowing what they knew and what they did to people, so rushing away from the dying people didn't mean a single thing to them all.

Whilst Zoe, Nate, Rick, Daryl, Michonne and Carl knew that they were still in the woods by the sanctuary to dig up the guns that Rick had buried before heading in there, the others had no idea. Once they reached the area as to where Rick had buried the duffel bag, Abraham couldn't help but roll his eyes from the back of the group, "The hell are we still around here for?" He asked them all, unsure as to why they weren't getting as far away from this group as possible.

"Guns. Some supplies." Rick answered, as Zoe kept a firm grip around Nate's hand, the man stroking the back of her hand with his thumb to keep her calm. He was suffering without Zoe by his side when he had been taken away from her, the only thing he was able to think clearly about, was getting back to her, and now they were together again, he didn't ever want to be away from her. "Go along the fences, use the rifles. Take out the rest of 'em." He added, as Zoe couldn't help but snap her head towards her father, unsure as to why he wanted them to murder everyone in there, when the people were already dying from the walkers and the huge fire. "They don't get to live." Rick said, when Bob had asked him what he was talking about, unsure as to if he heard the man correctly.

"Rick, we got out. It's over." Glenn spoke up next, knowing that he wasn't comfortable at all with going back and killing them all. Zoe couldn't help but agree with him, even if these people were evil, she didn't want even more trauma by killing even more people, she just couldn't do it, and knew that she may not be able to get past it again.

"It's not over till they're all dead." Rick said, not wanting to listen to anything anyone said, Zoe and Nate exchanging a look as he said this.

"The hell it isn't. That place is on fire." Rosita spoke up next, wanting to get her word in that this wasn't okay, and that they didn't need to go back and kill them all, that wasn't something she was comfortable with. "Full of walkers." She added, knowing that this was crazy.

"I'm not dicking around with this crap. We just made it out." Abraham said, agreeing with Rosita and Glenn.

Zoe knew that her father wanted to make sure these people couldn't hurt anyone else, and she almost agreed with it, she wanted these people to be punished, but it was dangerous for them, it wasn't the best decision they could do right now, and could endanger them all. When Rick seemed to be considering what everyone was saying, Zoe saw movement from the corner of her eye, seeing Carol standing across from them, holding both Daryl and Nate's crossbows after taking them back in Terminus; she had to hold back the tears when Daryl sprinted towards the older woman, pulling her into his arms and hugging her tightly, having missed her incredibly every single day.
Everyone was smiling at the sight of Carol, edging towards the two hugging as they all wanted to greet the woman; Nate squeezed Zoe's hand again comfortingly, he himself, feeling emotional at the woman in front of them.

Rick was next to hug Carol, finding out that she was the one that had set the place on fire, helping them all get out alive, because through it all, they were family, and family helped each other.

Not shortly after meeting Carol again, she told them all to follow her, that she had something they would want to see, specifically looking at Rick, Zoe and Carl with a knowing look, which they all couldn't read, following after Carol without any more questions. Zoe and Nate still walked hand in hand down the road as everyone followed Carol, half running as they needed to see what Carol had for them; it wasn't until Tyreese walked out of the door of a small cabin with Judith in his arms, did Zoe cry out in relief, letting her hand drop from Nate's as she ran behind her brother and father towards the baby they thought was dead. The girl cried as she looked at her baby sister, kissing her forehead as Rick hugged his three children, the Grimes family incredibly lucky that Judith was still alive and well; Zoe leaned into her fathers hold as Carl also hugged his father and two sisters, all of them leaning into each others holds, each the happiest they had been in weeks.

Everyone smiled at the small baby in her fathers arms, glad that she was safe, when Rick had silently thanked Tyreese for keeping his baby girl safe, for keeping her alive, and after that, they all hugged again, never wanting the moment to end.

And just ten minutes later, they were on the road yet again, looking for yet another sanctuary to find their home.
