( 𝟎𝟕𝟎 ) bath tub of blood
— BEING STUCK IN A SMALL train car, wasn't exactly the best way to spend, what felt like months, inside, with eleven people by your side, and Nate was definitely feeling the claustrophobic effects from the amount of time spent in this hell hole. Although he was happy to finally have Zoe back, and find out that a lot of the people from their group were indeed, alive, the wound on his stomach didn't feel any better since he had first found out he had been cut; Zoe and Daryl had done all they could for him, and he had been having as much rest as he possible can, but overall, he was in a lot of pain, and trying to hide it from everyone else, especially Zoe, was taking a toll out of him. He felt like he could walk, and he could do a lot of things that he regularly did, but it wasn't comfortable to do so, in fact, it hurt, a lot, when he moved in the wrong way or stretched his skin out too much on his stomach, but whilst they were all stuck in this train car, he couldn't exactly move around as much as he could, meaning that he had an excuse to sit down and relax against the wall behind him.
The second that everyone realised that they were all stuck in this place together, with no way of getting out, they all started conversing and trying to figure out where the rest of their people were, like Beth and Tyreese, but in reality, there weren't many of them left over, and that thought alone, hurt them all. Daryl had begun explaining what had happened to Beth, well, to what extent they knew of, the only thing they could tell Maggie was that the girl was taken by a black car with a cross on the back — they felt ashamed that they couldn't give the woman more information, but the fact that she was still alive, was enough for her, and Maggie didn't blame the brothers one bit for loosing track of Beth the way they did. A lot of them took pity on Nate, knowing that he was clearly injured and couldn't move around as much as they could, especially since they knew that he took pride in his strength and the need to protect Zoe and the others; none of them brought up his injuries, not wanting to upset him any further.
They then spoke about Tyreese, wondering where he could be, and then the conversation had led to whom had passed during the prison outbreak, and most of their people had indeed, died either during the attack or after, and they were the only ones left. Nate didn't know how to feel about that fact, and neither did Zoe, they had to fully start over again, if they even made it out of here alive, ever since being stuck in this large crate, they had just heard screams and shouts of protest outside from what sounded like captives like themselves. It was strange, being stuck in this small space, with no way out and no way to see exactly what was happening outside of it, but with Rick on the lookout, they all knew that they were going to find a way out eventually; even the new people, whom Nate hadn't spoken a single word to, knew that Rick was planning something, he had a look on his face that said so, and it gave them all a little hope, although, as the time went on, their hope slowly went away, and they didn't know if they would ever make it out of here alive.
Zoe, on the other hand, was quick to hug everyone when they first found out they were locked in the train car, minus the new people, but Maggie and Glenn were especially happy to see the younger couple, since they believed that each of them were dead, and after that small reunion, things had gotten quiet again, when everyone realised just what position they were currently in. The youngest couple sat side by side, Zoe wrapping Nate's belt around her arm and on her hand to create some sort of weapon and sharp end to hit whoever would come in and take them, because over the course of being stuck in this crate, they had all heard multiple people being dragged out of their own train cars and being dragged away to god knows what. None of them could figure out why the hell they were killing all of these people, or why they were even luring them all here in the first place, but they did know one thing, and that was that they were all evil, and straight up crazy, and they had to get the hell out before anything could happen.
Nate didn't have two belts, and since Zoe wasn't wearing one, he gave his to the girl, knowing that she would be much better off with it than him, and she was, the girl already pushing the buckle through her knuckles and making sure that whomever she hit, would be successful in hurting them. Nate merely had his fists, but with Zoe in front of him and hovering over him every time they heard a noise, he doubt anything would happen to him, not when his girl was on guard for protecting his life when he couldn't so himself properly. The man couldn't help but smile at his girlfriends actions, watching as she thrust her fist forwards in practice of when the people of Terminus decided to come into their train car and take them like they did with everyone else, and that's how he knew that he was head over heels for her, because the girl never failed to put a smile on his face even in the worst situations..
Everyone in the train car stopped what they were doing and looked around when they heard commotion nearby, the people of Terminus clearly dragging even more people out of their carts and taking them to their doom, which they were all unsure of, still. When Daryl then spoke up, breaking the ongoing silence they all had between them as they prepared for a small battle, "All right, we got five of them pricks coming our way." Daryl told the group, having taken over on watch so Rick could also prepare himself. Throughout the time that they were all creating new ways to fight the people of Terminus off, they had all created an unspoken rule, a way that they were all going to fight off the people of Terminus, and once they heard about the men coming their way, they all stood up, Zoe holding her hand out and helping Nate up, who got into position besides her.
"Y'all know what to do. Go for their eyes, first. Then for their throats." Rick instructed them all, letting them all know the quickest way to take someone down, and with only five of them coming to their train car, they had a pretty good chance at getting out of here and maybe even taking down the rest of these assholes.
Even if Nate didn't want to, Zoe shuffled in front of him slightly so that none of them could hurt him, knowing that he didn't have all of his energy right now, and even when she heard him huff in annoyance behind her, all she did was roll her eyes, holding her fist up as herself and the rest of the group readied up to fight them off. "Put your backs to the walls on either side of the car, now." A man outside instructed them, sounding like he did this multiple times a day, and sounding confident that they would do what he asked. But they weren't, they were all ready for an attack this time, all of them facing the only door in this cart with their make shift weapons and fists ready, until the sound of footsteps was heard on the roof, and multiple people within the group looked up at the sound of commotion, the roof then opening up, revealing the daylight from outside shining into them, before something dropped inside.
"Move!" Abraham shouted, seeing what had been dropped onto the floor, it was smoke, and it hadn't wasted any time in going off.. Whilst this was going down, Nate ushered Zoe towards the others, the girl gripping onto him for dear life, not wanting to loose him, until their vision was completely gone, smoke now the only thing they could all see, and Nate felt the girls hand quickly slip from his, the man instantly going into panic zone.
Nate tried fighting off whoever had grabbed onto him, throwing his fist in their face and attempting to kick at them, not as strong as he would have hoped due to his weakness, but none of it worked, as he was yanked backwards out of the train car, the man falling flat on his back, his head hitting the ground below him and causing his vision to blur just slightly, but he could see the man above him looking down at him with a disgusted look on his face, wiping the blood from his nose, having been punched by Nate. He couldn't exactly do much as he was yanked back up again after another guy had zip tied his hands behind his back, before being dragged in another direction, unable to even move his neck to look at who else they had taken out of their train car, praying to god that Zoe was safe with the others instead of facing the horrors of what may happen next. He was dragged through the building nearest to them, the man hardly being able to tell what was going on around him, but when he looked to his right, he saw what looked like a dead animal on the table being chopped up by another person to eat, but it didn't look like any animal he had seen before..
Before he knew it, he was being shoved down to the ground again, this time, on his knees, where his feet were then tied together, preventing him from moving at all, but finally being able to move his head around without being shoved down from doing so. Coughing, he could hear a saw buzzing in the distance, and his reflection in a large metal tub below him, realising that they had tied a cloth around his mouth whilst dragging him here, and trying to push past how much pain he was in. Struggling, he tried to move, but when Daryl was pushed closer to the tub next to him, he stopped, looking at his brother with a confused look on his face, before looking around at the men wearing plastic aprons and holding machetes and long knives, Nate having a feeling that he knew what was about to happen to them all. Looking up again at the room they were in, the man had to hold back a gag when he saw a human body on the table across from them, not an animal — they were cannibals, and they had walked right into their trap.
With sweat dripping down his face, Nate took a deep breath in and held in a gasp when the man on the end of the line was wacked around the back of his head, before his head was then pulled back, and his throat was slit, the bath tub filling up with the man's blood as it poured out of him, the people responsible wanting to drain all of their blood so it would be easier to cut and cook; the thought made Nate sick. Looking away, towards his brother, they exchanged a knowing look, the two Dixon's realising that it just may be the last time they see each other alive again, and that thought alone, terrified them — the man's body at the end of the line draped over the bath tub, and Nate could see his blood running down the tub, filling up very quickly as all of his blood was being drained at a fast pace. Nate wasn't screaming like the men at the end of the line, he wouldn't give the Terminus people the satisfaction of them seeing him scared, and that wasn't how he was going to go out; he was going to go out thinking of the woman he would've proposed to, whom he would have married and created a family with, within a heartbeat, and with no questions asked, and maybe, just maybe, they'll meet in another life.
He closed his eyes as the next man's neck was slit, and then the next, until he felt them come closer, towards Glenn, whom was kneeled next to him, until, Gareth walked in with a notebook and pen, too casual about the fact that nine people were being slaughtered in front of his eyes, because he had seen it a million times before. "Hey, guys. What were your shot counts?" He asked the men behind Nate and Glenn, as they readied up to hit Glenn and slit his throat, next.
Nate could hardly listen to anything going on, but he felt the men besides him, behind Glenn, raising the bat ready to hit him next. Until Gareth spoke up again, "Hey! Your shot count?" He asked the man who didn't answer his question, causing them both to pause on Glenn, giving the Korean boy just a few more seconds of life before it would be taken away from him, before Nate's would end, too.
But before they could carry on, Bob shouted, or tried to, over the tie around his mouth, "Hey! Hey, let me talk to you." His muffled voice sounded out, echoing throughout the room, only for Gareth to ignore him completely, looking down at his notebook again.
"Four from A, five from B?" Gareth asked, clearly not caring one bit about what Bob had to say to him, as he had had many people beg with him to save their life before. When the men behind Glenn and Nate confirmed, Gareth looked up and recognised Nate, remembering how he had something in his pocket when he was tapping him down when he and his group had first come here; the man walked around Bob, ignoring his pleas again, when he dug into Nate's back pocket, the man shuffling and trying to kick him, but failing miserably. "You won't be needing this anymore." Gareth told him, holding up Nate's engagement ring for Zoe between his fingers, causing Daryl, Rick and Glenn to glare up at him like the Dixon man himself, all of them knowing it was for Zoe.
"Hey! Hey! Let me talk to you!" Bob then shouted, when Gareth began to walk around again, the man rolling his eyes and pulling the cloth from Bob's mouth, allowing the man to finally talk. "Don't do this. We can fix this. You don't have to do this! We told you there's a way out of all of this. You just have to take a chance. We have a man who knows how to stop it, he has a cure, we just have to get him to Washington. You don't have to do this, man. We can put the world back to how it was." He tried to reason with Gareth, Nate remembering hearing about how Eugene knew a cure; as much as Nate tried to believe that maybe he did have a cure, he had a very hard time doing so.
"Can't go back, Bob." Gareth told him, pulling the cloth back up up his mouth so he couldn't talk anymore, Nate just glaring up at him like he wanted to slit his throat, especially since he took the ring he was planning to give Zoe. Gareth then moved towards Rick and pulled his cloth down, wanting to speak to the man about something he saw him do, "We saw you go into the woods with a bag and come out without it. Had to pull my spotters back before we could go look for it. What was in it?" He asked, not knowing that Rick would rather die than give him a full bag of weapons. Rick merely glared at the man in front of him, unknowingly to Gareth, using the bit of wood he had pulled off in the train car, to cut the ties from his hands and feet, "You hid it, right? In case things went bad? Smart. Still, we'll find it. But it's too dangerous to go out there right now." He carried on, pulling out his knife and holding it up for just a few seconds. Before Nate saw him walk towards him and yank his head down towards the knife, stopping just centimetres away from the end of it, just before his eye, threatening Rick that if he didn't tell him what was in the bag and where it was, he was going to kill Nate right now.
And then Rick told him every single detail on the weapons in the bag, as Nate looked straight at the knife with a clenched jaw, wanting nothing but to bash Gareth's face in and take back his ring — if he did die right now, he knew that his brother, Rick and Glenn would get the ring back for Zoe, and all he could think about, was her.. Until Gareth let him go and Nate sat back up straight, sending daggers the man's way as he backed up, smiling when Rick had stated that he was going to kill him with all of the weapons in the bag he wanted, threatening him as he believed they would make it out of here alive. As he was telling the men behind them that they needed to hurry up and get the killings done with, they all heard gunshots outside from the distance, all of them looking up in surprise, that maybe somebody had finally fought back, and maybe, they actually had a chance against them. Nate knew that if they were getting more time to plan on getting away, like he had said many times before, he trusted Rick to get them out of this mess, but even if he didn't, he would see Zoe in another light..
An explosion sounded, as the roof shook on the building they were in, dust falling from the ceiling as Nate nearly lost his balance and fell to the ground, Terimus clearly under some sort of attack, making the man incredibly happy. They could all hear the panic on the radio Gareth was holding, but they could barely understand what was being said, everybody clearly in panic about what was happening out there; but Gareth had left them with the two men behind them, and in Nate's opinion, five of them could take only two men, so he smirked when the 'leader' ran off to deal with the problem, knowing that his time would come soon enough. Nate started pulling on the zip ties around his wrists, feeling the blood already run down his hands, but ignoring it as he was trying to get out of them, knowing that they had to take on these guys to get out of here whilst the people of Terminus were all distracted.
When Rick finally pulled out of his zip ties as the two men were talking, Nate smirked even wider, watching the man rush up behind them and kill them both almost instantly, not even caring about them whilst doing so. And they all knew, that now they were out, they were going down..
