( 𝟎𝟏𝟎 ) the horde of walkers

—  ZOE GRIMES FELT COMPLETELY NUMB INSIDE, she had really believed that there would be a cure, or at least something that could determine the future of the world and bring everything back to normal - since finding out the truth back at the CDC; she didn't see a point anymore. Nothing was worth it, and she no longer believe in anything her father had told her about what he believes and wishes. The world was gone, and there was nothing left that could bring civilisation back to how it used to be. She didn't know if she could have the same hope as her father or anyone else in the group anymore.

She didn't think that she would even survive for this long, or anyone for that matter, they were living in an apocalypse; who knows what's out there, or what the new world would turn people into. No one was safe anymore. People could be more dangerous than the walkers by now, they needed to be careful and not trust anyone. Danger made people panic, and it made them change their ways - all they knew, people could have change greatly since the outbreak, and they could be more dangerous than ever.

Zoe was snapped back to reality when the sound of a broken engine echoed through her ears, and when she looked up, she saw that the RV had stopped in front of their car. She noticed that there were a lot of broken down and parked cars blocking the way, there was no way they would even be able to get the RV through there. In nearly every single car, there were either dead bodies, or walkers; but it was a sight that the girl had gotten used to by now. Zoe followed her mom and dad out of the car to meet up with the others to find out what was going on.

"I said it. Didn't I say it?" Dale said the the group as they grouped in around the front of the RV, where smoke was emerging from. "A thousand times. Dead in the water." He spoke.

"Problem, Dale?" Shane asked him, whilst looking around at their surroundings to ensure that they were alone. They didn't know who could come out at any moment, they needed to be careful from now on, especially since they knew there wasn't a cure - no one could get bit.

"Just a small matter of being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no hope of..." He trailed off, looking at Daryl as he searched through the boot of another car for anything. "Okay, that was dumb." He spoke, noticing that he shouldn't be so down about what they were doing, it was just going to stress everyone out, and no one needed this at the moment. They needed hope.

"If you can't find a radiator hose here, there's a whole bunch of stuff we can find." Daryl stated, pulling supplies from the back of the vehicle and handing some to Nate so they can carry some back to their bikes and the vehicles. There was a lot of stuff that they could use here, and he sure as hell wasn't going to pass up the chance to snag it. They were extremely low on supplies, since they had to use a lot to get to the CDC and back here again, there was also the fact that they could have left things back there, so if they were to find anything, it could help them out greatly.

"I can siphon more fuel from these cars for a start." T-Dog mentioned, stepping forward.

"Maybe some water... Or food." Carol muttered, causing Zoe to glance around at their surroundings, thinking that it could be a good idea to search the cars - although the whole place was crawling with corpses, making her not want to.. However, they couldn't pass up the opportunity to gather some more supplies, so they were going to have to do it wether they liked it or not.

"This is a graveyard." Lori spoke, as if she was reading Zoe's mind; she was clutching Carl close to her as she spoke. "I don't know how I feel about this." She added.

The group fell completely silent at her words, glancing around at each other; it was true. It's not as if they needed any of the items, but it felt wrong to just take the stuff of the people who were once alive. "All right, all right." T-Dog speaks up, breaking the uncomfortable silence that had drawn on the group. "Here we go." He mumbled, picking up a can with a hose connected to it.

Zoe felt bad, but she was quite excited to go and search for some new items, maybe some clothes that the dead had packed in any suitcases that they intended to leave the state with; as she began to walk away, her mom pulled her arm. "Stay within eye-sight, okay?" She asked, causing Zoe to nod at her, before finally walking off to find some new gear.

She understood her mom's worry over her, but she didn't need to baby her twenty-four-seven; she could handle herself, she had been in this world long enough to know that she had to be careful. What's the worse that could happen in this graveyard of cars? There was no one around. Zoe instantly began to walk forward, looking for any cars that may not have any dead bodies in, as she didn't want to feel worse than she already did about searching through their things.
Once she found a car, she looked into the trunk and found a suitcase just sitting there, untouched, so she grabbed it. It seemed to be her lucky day, as the clothes inside looked nice, comfy and were her size. Smiling to herself, Zoe held some tops up against her to see how they would fit, as she heard footsteps come up behind her.

"Shopping?" Nate chuckled, causing her to jump out of her and turn around, gasping in surprise.

"Jesus Christ, Nate!" She laughed, pushing him back slightly after noticing that it was just him and not a walker coming to eat her. "Don't do that." She told him.

He laughed at her reaction, slinging his gun on his back as there was no use for it at the moment. "Sorry, you're too easy to scare." He said, causing her to roll her eyes sarcastically at him. "There's a lot of stuff we can gather, here." He said. The two had gotten closer over their time on the road, every time they had pulled over, they conversed, and the whole group could see that they had become friends of some sort. Ever since the CDC, the two had gotten along great, as Nate had finally allowed him to be himself around the Grimes girl, and she loved it.

Nate walked up next to her and began searching the trunk for some new clothes for himself, as the car seemed to be owned by some younger folk. Zoe smiled at him, "Yeah, finally some new clothes that don't smell like complete death and rot." She commented, lifting up a jacket. When she looked up, her face dropped, as she noticed two dead bodies in the back seat, both looking like hers and Nate's age. It scared her that that could have been them two, if they hadn't had found the group, she couldn't imagine where they would be right now.

"What's wrong?" Nate asked, upon seeing her face change from a smile into a frown.

She motioned to the back seat, before taking a few steps away from the car, leaving the clothes in the suitcases. "This doesn't feel right." She said, causing Nate to look at her with sympathy, knowing that she had a lot more feelings about other people than him, so she got upset easily.

"We do what we have to, to survive." He said, causing her to look up at him with a slight nod, knowing that what he was saying was right. They didn't have a choice anymore.

Zoe opened her mouth to reply, but she was interrupted by a loud hush from behind them, calling her name out. When they both turned around, they saw Rick, looking frantic and waving his arms around like a mad man. "Get under the cars." He spoke, causing the two teenagers to look at him with wide eyes and instantly get down under the car they were once scavenging without a question: he wouldn't have told them to do so unless something was wrong..

Once Zoe crawled under the car, she could see her mom, Carl, Carol, Sophia and Rick from the angle she had, all giving each other panicked eyes; Lori's eyes kept drifting from Carl, to Zoe, as she kept her hand over Carol's mouth to keep her quiet, knowing what was coming. She was terrified that something was going to happen to them, and she couldn't rid the thought of a walker tearing them apart. It was her nightmare, having to watch both of her children murdered in front of her eyes, being nothing she could do. She had the dream often, with her husband having to put them down - she just wished that it would never come true..

As the walkers began to walk past, Zoe began trembling in fear - she had never seen so many before, it was like it was a herd heading straight for them. It seemed like luck hadn't been on their side since the CDC, hell, ever since the camp..
Nate could sense her discomfort, and decided to put his arm around her and pull her close to him, to let her know that she was safe under the car if she doesn't move. After a few seconds, she calmed down, still glancing around at the tonnes of walker feet shuffling past, not noticing any of the people underneath the cars. Zoe could see that even her father was visibly shaking, none of them had seen this many before, not even outside of the CDC, time felt like it had slowed down by 90%. She felt like she had been under the car with Nate for hours.

All Zoe wanted to do in this moment, was hug Carl and keep him safe, he looked absolutely terrified, and he was all alone under a car, scaring both Zoe and Lori alike. After a few painful minutes that felt like hours, the walkers had finally passed, leaving only a few left, causing Zoe to sigh in relief, visibly relaxing. She had never felt so scared in her life; luckily, she had Nate to calm her down, if it wasn't for him, the walkers probably would have heard her panicking and crying, and she would be walker bait at this moment in time.

As Sophia began to crawl out of the car, something she shouldn't have done, a walker noticed her, causing Zoe's eyes to widen in shock; she made a move to help the girl, as she was only little and couldn't defend herself, but Nate had a strong hold on her, stopping her from doing so. Instead of her, Zoe's dad instantly grabbed his gun and went chasing after the walkers and Sophia as the rest of the group stayed at the top of the hill, watching as they all disappeared into the woods.

"There's two walkers after my baby." Carol cried, as Lori held onto her, ensuring that she didn't run away herself. She couldn't imagine if her kids had been chased by a walker, especially Carl, as he was so young, but she knew that her husband would bring the little girl back. Being a cop had its benefits and one of them was being searching for missing peoples.

Zoe had slumped in defeat when Rick had come back, but he didn't have Sophia with him, causing the group to sigh in sadness and Carol to cry out in pain.
It wasn't going to be an easy task to get her back, that's for sure.
