( 𝟎𝟒𝟎 ) escaping woodbury
— NATE HAD NEVER BEEN SO DETERMINED to find someone in his whole life, the second he heard the unknown woman say that Zoe and Glenn had been taken back to an evil leader, he knew he had to get her out of there as soon as possible, wasting no time in getting ready to get his girl and best friend back. Daryl had tried to calm the boy down, but Nate was beyond listening, he wasn't going to calm down until he found Zoe, and the girl was safe in his arms once again. Even Rick had been slightly shocked at Nate's behaviour and how he was acting without his daughter; not only did he want to get his daughter back for himself, but for the boy who seemed to be going crazy and out of his mind without her. If Nate knew what the Governor had done to his girlfriend, there would be hell to pay, and he will work nonstop to kill the son of a bitch.
Zoe, on the other hand, wasn't intending to tell anyone back home what had happened, in fact, she hadn't even told Glenn what really happened back in the empty room. She had informed him that he hadn't raped her, of course, but she couldn't bring herself to say exactly what the son of a bitch had done. The girl had only done what he said as he had threatened to bring Glenn's hand in to her, and then more parts of his body, but now she knew that he was bluffing - he knew that neither of them were going to give in to their location unless their lives were in danger..
The girl sat next to Glenn, her arms right around her legs as she lent against the wall, unable to say anything else to Glenn. She didn't want to say anything else, she just wanted to sit in silence and try and get the thoughts of the Governor out of her mind, and that one thought to her of her of that, was Nate. Zoe closed her eyes, trying her hardest to picture his face, and his face only, causing her to let out a breath of relief, her heart rate slowing down as she focused on the boy and only of the boy. As well as her family, her friends and her newborn baby sister - everything she had to make her happy, that the Governor probably didn't have himself. He was probably a low life scumbag who preyed on innocent woman, and didn't have any real friends or family, and that thought alone was keeping Zoe going, keeping her alive.
Glenn looked over at the girl was a sympathetic look on his face, one that she definitely didn't need, and he was glad that she wasn't looking in his direction, but he just couldn't help looking at her like that - it was partly his fault this had happened to him; if only he had been looking out before Merle had taken them both, then maybe this wouldn't have happened..
With a huff, Glenn stood up, with some effort, as Zoe watched him with furrowed brows, wondering what he was planning to do - when he headed over to the dead walker on the floor that he had taken out with a chair leg, she couldn't help but feel bad that he had been through that. Glenn was exhausted, anyone could see that, and without his shirt covering the top half of his body, Zoe could see all the cuts and bruises lingering his body, just making the girl feel that much worse about what had happened, at least she didn't get beaten the shit out of, not like her friend had.
Glenn groaned in pain, holding his abdomen as he crouched down and yanked the chair leg out of the walker's head, before holding it up to Zoe, who looked at him in confusion, before he walked over to her and handed her the wooden dagger, the girl watching as he stumbled over to his old chair, and yanked off one more leg from it, being in a lot of pain as he did so. "We're getting out of here." He told her, as Zoe smiled at his words.
Zoe got up, holding the sharp chair leg tightly in her hand as she looked over at Glenn, "No matter what." She told him, standing up straight as she awaited for the guards to take them away once again. She didn't doubt that they would kill them now that they had the information they needed, and the two survivors knew they needed to get out of here tonight, before they had the chance to kill them. The two survivors stood by the door, side by side, waiting until their doom came, and Zoe couldn't help but turn to Glenn with tears in her eyes, the emotions finally coming to to the girl. "If we don't make it, I wanna thank you for always being there for me." She told him, pulling the boy in for a hug, no matter how much she didn't want to be touched; if this was her last moment alive, she wanted to spend it with her best friend, "You're my best friend." She said, a small sob coming from her mouth.
Glenn shook his head as he held her close, "We're not dying today, Zo." He said to her, pulling her head back so he could get her to look at him, "We're getting out of here, okay?" He assured her, not liking that she was thinking this way. Glenn was going to make sure he did everything he could to get this girl out of here and himself, so they could go home to their family.
Zoe nodded, wiping the tears that had fallen from her eyes, before the pair of them had heard footsteps come from the distance, indicating that it was time. The girl gave Glenn a nod to indicate that she was ready, and they both stood close to the wall, their backs pressed against it as they awaited their door to be unlocked - the only sound the two of them could hear was their rapid breathing, as the footsteps eventually came closer, until they heard the key go into the door, and it finally opened..
Zoe didn't think twice about what she was doing as she kicked the first guy she saw in the nuts, the man groaning as he hunched over in pain at the sudden kick that he wasn't expecting. This had allowed Glenn to rush past and attack Merle, as he had been one of the men to bring these two out to their deaths - Zoe barely had time to duck as the man she kicked had punched her round the face, the girl groaning in pain as he did so.
Her sight went slightly blurry at the sudden hit around her face, before she clenched her jaw in anger, remembering everything that had happened to her in this damn place, so, with a cry of pain, she gripped her sharp chair leg in her hand, and pushed it up, right through the man's shoulder and causing him to fall down. Gunshots echoed around the room as the man's finger had pressed against the trigger when he fell down the wall, Zoe ducking away at the sudden noise, before she turned around and saw Glenn on the floor with Merle on top of him, aiming his hook at his throat. She didn't think twice before grabbing a dead man's gun and aiming it straight at Merle's head, "Let him go!" She yelled, trying to stay strong as she watched her best friend being threatened.
Glenn looked a sight, the poor boy was gurgling up some blood as he was incredibly weak, having been beaten hard during the past day, even Zoe could feel blood trickle down her face where the man had punched her, but she didn't falter her aim on Merle's head, knowing that she wouldn't hesitate to save his life. The gun trembled in her hands as she watched Merle raise his arms in the air, showing surrender, before the girl heard the clicks of guns behind her, and turning around, she saw that they were outnumbered. Their plan had failed.
With a hard shove, Merle yanked the gun back out Zoe's grip. "Give me the gun!" He shouted at the girl, then turned to a badly beaten Glenn on the floor, "Get up!" He ordered, the boy groaning in pain as he attempted to stand up, but he just couldn't do it.
Zoe felt more tears streaming down her face as a guard grabbed her arm harshly, definitely leaving a bruise as he pulled her back into the room she and Glenn had sat in for the whole night, she was completely numb at this point, knowing that she was going to die and she wasn't going to be able to see her family and friends again, the people she considered family since the outbreak. When the man lowered his hand down her back too much for her liking, Zoe shrugged out of his hold with all of the energy she could muster, "Let go of me!" She spat in his direction, kicking her foot out once again to get him away from her so he couldn't touch her there. After what happened with the Governor, she didn't want somebody else handling her in that way, and she would fight for it.
The man snarled at her, before bringing the end of his gun back, and shoving it against the girls head, as she was then shoved to the floor, too weak to fight anymore. He kept his gun aimed straight at her head as she knelt on the floor, making sure she wasn't going to do anything else, and she could see that, just making her even more nervous. "Glad we could catch up." Merle said, as he stood in front of the two of them, smiling down at them mischievously.
Zoe let out the sob she had been holding in, knowing that this was the time she was going to die. She felt Glenn's hand wrap around her own, and she instantly squeezed it back, the two best friends clenching their eyes shut as they awaited the dreaded moment. Bags were thrown over their heads, and all that could be heard was the girls sobbing and the boys struggled breathe as he found it hard to breathe, still in huge amounts of pain. Their hold on each others hands were ripped apart, Zoe holding her breath as she was yanked up once again, the guard keeping a tight hold on her arms as he guided her forwards to her death.
That was just as the pair heard bangs in the room, Zoe thinking that they had decided to kill them early, and crouched down to the ground with her hands above her head in cover, feeling vulnerable as she couldn't see a thing through this bag on her head. When someone grabbed her again, she made a move to punch whoever it was, until the bag was lifted off of her head, and she found her dad staring back at her in shock at how awful his daughter looked.
Zoe instantly followed behind her dad as he guided her out of the room, the girl unable to see anything as they ran through the smoke and away from the guards about to kill them. How they had managed to get here, she didn't know, but she had never been so glad to see her father before.. As they exited the building, Zoe saw Nate, and the girl sobbed at the sight of him, as did he, nearly crying at the sight of her and immediately feeling his anger rile up that she had been treated so badly here.
Rick and Daryl helped carry Glenn as they all rushed out through the town, Maggie and Nate staying close with her as they ran, and some unknown woman with one of the prisoners behind. Zoe couldn't believe she had made it out, into the fresh air, and she now wasn't going to be executed with a stupid bag over her head. The small group quickly found an empty building and rushed inside, hoping to cover in here and figure out a plan to get out of here.
The second the door shut, Zoe flung herself into Nate's arms, sobbing again as she did so, as she had never thought she would see him again, as Maggie rushed onto the floor where Glenn was sat, still grunting in pain. "Dad, how did you find us?" She asked, looking over at her dad who then pulled her in for a quick hug, glad that they had finally found her and Glenn.
"How bad are you two hurt?" Rick asked, looking over her for injuries, before looking at Glenn, who looked like he had been to hell and back.
Zoe shook her head, "I'm fine. Glenn's the one we should worry about." She told her dad, giving Nate's hand a squeeze as she rushed back to the boys side, gripping his hand as he struggled to breathe.. Nate finally noticed that Zoe was wearing Glenn's shirt, and the man was topless, only adding to his multiple questions that were plaguing his mind, but he knew he had to wait - they needed to get out of here, first.
Glenn nodded appreciatively at Zoe and Maggie as they both helped him into a hoodie, before he finally spoke up for the first time since escaping their deaths. "Daryl, Nate. This was Merle." He spoke up, knowing that Zoe wouldn't have wanted to say anything about her boyfriends brother as being apart of this screwed up town, especially with what happened with the Governor. "He was.." He began, looking at Zoe, who couldn't meet Nate's eyes as she helped him into his hoodie, "He did this." Glenn corrected, knowing that it wasn't his place to say anything about his friend.
Nate couldn't believe the boys words, his oldest brother, alive, and here? But the words that confused him, was when Glenn had claimed he had been the one to do this to him and Zoe, how could that be right? "You saw him?" Daryl asked, walking forwards to face Glenn.
"Face to face." Glenn confirmed, "He threw a walker at me. He was gonna execute us." He told the two brothers, that couldn't believe his words.
"Our brothers this Governor?" Daryl asked.
"No." Zoe said, knowing that no matter how bad Merle was, she wouldn't compare him to that monster. "He's someone else entirely." She informed Daryl, still unable to look Nate in the eyes as he just stared at her, waiting for the girl to look at him. He couldn't work out if he had done something wrong, why couldn't she face him? "Your brother is his lieutenant, or something like that." She carried on, her voice quiet once again as she helped Glenn's arm into a sleeve of the hoodie.
"Does he know that we're still with you?" Nate spoke up for the first time, not wanting to believe that his brother would do this to the girl he was in love with. If he had, he didn't think he could ever forgive him for it..
"He does." Glenn told him.
"Dad, I'm so sorry, I had to tell him where the prison was, I couldn't hold out." Zoe apologised to her father, looking completely broken as she admitted it. Glenn gave her a look, one that Nate certainly didn't miss, and that just made him want to know what had happened back in that place, and why Zoe was acting so strangely towards him.
"No. No need to apologise." Rick told his daughter, taking her hand in his, causing her to flinch slightly, but only Nate and Glenn had noticed this. The man then rushed back to the window to look out as Zoe locked her eyes onto the hand where her dad had just touched, unable to feel complete disgust from the feeling. When her dad had told them that they had a car a few miles away, Zoe and Glenn agreed at the fact they could walk there fine, until Daryl had spoken up again, while Nate kept close to his girl, knowing that he had to find out what happened back there so he could fully understand what his brother had done to her.
"Hey, if Merle's alive, we need to see him." Daryl told everyone, not wanting to rush off without even seeing his older brother, first.
Nate clenched his fists as his brother spoke, unable to feel the same way about Merle after seeing what he had done to Zoe and Glenn, "What we need to do, is get them out of here." He snapped at Daryl, not meaning to, he was just confused.
Rick nodded at Nate's statement, "Not now, we're in hostile territory." He told Daryl, who argued back instantly.
"He's our brother." Daryl tried to reason with their leader, also confused at why Nate wouldn't want to see Merle.
"Look at what he did, Daryl!" Nate tried to get through his thick skull, "He knew we were with them and he still did it! This can wait, we need to get back home." He snapped at his brother, shocking Zoe that Nate had completely gone onto hers and Glenn's side on their opinion on the man. Nate just couldn't believe that Merle would do something like this - he liked to think that he and Daryl had changed, that they were better people than the ones they were back in Atlanta, but it seemed that Merle hadn't changed one bit.
"But maybe we can talk to him, work something out.." Daryl said to his brother, hurt that Nate wouldn't want to go looking for Merle like he did.
"No." Rick hushed, knowing that they could come back for Merle if that's what the others wanted, but right now, they needed to get out of here, "You're not thinking straight, Daryl. Look, no matter what they say, they're hurt. Glenn can barely walk, how are we gonna make it out if we get overrun by walkers or this Governor catches up to us? I need you!" He told Daryl in a hushed whisper, trying to get through to the man. "Are you with me?" He then asked Daryl, as Nate watched him nod.
Zoe took in a deep breathe as she was handed a gun, and she took it instantly, knowing that she couldn't think twice before killing to get out of here. In her opinion, everyone here can burn in hell, with following a man like that, they must all be disgusting people, and the world would be better off without them. "Zo?" Nate asked the girl softly, seeing the look of rage on her face as she looked at the door, ready to bust out of here.
"Not now, Nate." Zoe told him, feeling bad that she was ignoring her boyfriend, but she couldn't help it - she couldn't even look at him, and it was because of the Governor. She wanted to kill him.
Nate sighed at her words and pulled his own gun up, making sure to edge in front of her as they exited the building, wanting to block her from any bullets that came their way, and with that, they all left the building and wandered out into the fresh air once again. The girl rushed out besides Nate as they ran through the smoke, shooting their gun behind them to distract the enemies. The group ran to the edge of the town, finding a bus to jump up on as she helped Glenn up first, Maggie next, then Zoe and Nate, until one of the prisoners, that Zoe couldn't remember their name, had been shot. "Dad!" Zoe yelled, trying to gain her dads attention who was just staring at a dead body on the floor in shock. "Dad!" She yelled again, when she was sure that the man had died.
"Zoe, let's go!" Nate yelled, rushing back to her side and trying to pull her back. As much as Zoe wanted to help the man, she had to leave, and when her dad came rushing back to them, she knew that they all had to go, now. But Daryl was nowhere in sight, causing Nate to panic.
"Nate!" Rick shouted, gaining the boys attention, "We'll go back for him, let's go!" He said, trying to get the boy to leave with them. They will go back to get Daryl, no matter what, and Nate knew that.
With slight hesitation, Nate eventually followed behind, and just like that, they had escaped.
