Personality: With a name like Emerson Oscar Elliott Wilde, he was bound to end up pretentious. Named after his parent's favorite writers - Ralph Waldo Emerson, George Elliott, and Oscar Wilde (especially Oscar Wilde) - Emerson followed in the footsteps of his namesakes. A prolific writer himself - and already extremely well published despite his relatively young age in the field - he is artistic and poetic. However, he absolutely does give off a pretentious 'holier than thou' attitude around others, especially those who don't know him personally enough to see past it. Constantly rewarder and praised for his brain and academic and artistic prowess, his intelligence and ability to write are his shields to the world. Incredibly and genuinely touched and proud of all he has been able to accomplish in his chosen field - which he genuinely loves, despite being guided towards it by his parents - he does use it as a way to keep people at arms length. Incredibly brilliant, he doesn't do well socially. Raised rather sheltered, Wilde (as he prefers to go by) is fairy innocent when it comes to the ways of the world. Or, rather, the social world of people his age. Very mature for his age, and totally lost when slang and new language is used, he gets incredibly flustered and embarassed and anxious, and it makes it hard for him to let people in. Worried he'll be judged, it keeps him from doing a lot of things. He always has pens, pencils, and a notebook or journal on him, usually carried in a leather satchel that hangs across his body. Either extra quiet, or extra pretentious, he is especially bad around men he finds attractive. Genuinely a sweet guy, it is very hard to get past the exterior shell he presents to the world, his awkwardness hidden by his brilliance.
Likes: writing, poetry, the classics, his parents, his professional achievements, compliments on his work, respectful and in-depth discussion of his work or work of others, learning, coffee, sweaters, quiet time, nature
Dislikes: social situations around people his age, not knowing what to do, not understanding, when he can feel himself going too far with his pride and pretentiousness yet unable to stop, being confined or ordered around by his Alpha (he mostly respects it, though)
Powers: shift into a wolf (looks above); heightened durability, speed, senses, reflexes, and strength while in human form
Backstory: Wilde grew up with two parents who loved literature to an extreme. Both English Literature professors at the same university, both well-known literary critics, both genuine geniuses, both a little eccentric, it was no wonder he ended up the way he did. He grew up relatively sheltered. Homeschooled, always attending one of his parent's lectures, or being taught by his grandfather - also a literature lover and former English Literature professor - his brilliance was clear from an early age. By the time he was 16, he had decent traction in the publishing world, his work being published in a few small literary magazines. By the time he was 23, he had multiple pieces published in well-renowned literary magazines - pieces that were either non-fiction personal essays, short-stories of any genre, poems, or literary critiques - he was also well on his way in the draft of his first ever book. The book was published when he was 25, and it was incredibly well-received by the public. His book was inspired by Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray and explored very similar themes. However, where Oscar Wilde used much subtext and inexplicit detail, Emerson Wilde was much more clear and explicit. Though inspired by Dorian Gray and the parallels are clear, it was well-lauded and could easily stand on its own, apart from the work of Oscar Wilde. However, just over a year after publication, Wilde started receiving nasty letters, emails, and direct messages absolutely trashing his work, sending threats, and going on and on about the 'homosexual vulgarity' that was in his book, accused of all sorts of things, like trying to brainwash the masses. When letters started showing up at his personal address, Wilde decided to take some time and go to his family's cabin, which had been owned by his grandfather and passed down to his parents after his passing, and would then go to Wilde one day. The cabin, hardly used these days, is in a remote area of the woods in Nevada, right on a lake. He spent a long time here, a few months, and in month three he decided to go out and take a long, long walk, and actually go camping. Which ended poorly, but could have ended up worse. Attacked by a bear in a freak accident, a Sierra pack wolf on patrol heard him, came to him, then bit him to save him. It worked, but it was agonizing. This was less than a year ago. Still very new to this world, he is struggling immensely to cope with it, and he does so by writing. Still prone to losing control at times, Sierra - and Redwood - have not yet deemed it safe for him to go back home. He does stay in regular contact with his parents, and seeing as he hardly used social media to begin with, no one is really all that worried. A statement was released to the press that he was out doing some writing, and he would re-emerge either when the threats against him were handled, or when he was done with whatever book he was writing next. A book that is, loosely, based on his experiences thus far. Moved to Redwood recently, for a small stay, he is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, which is where Crimson River is located. Not yet an official pack member anywhere, his aim is to live life with a foot in both worlds, somehow. At least be able to continue writing.
Other: His parent's last name is Halling, but they gave him the last name Wilde, which some people confuse as his first name
He writes under the professional name Emerson O. E. Wilde, though has published work under Emerson Wilde, and even Emerson Halling.
To honor his parents and grandfather, he wants to one day take on his actual family name of Halling
His parents work at Washington University in St. Louis - which is, obviously, located in St. Louis, Missouri
His family cabin is in Sierra, Nevada
He has had one partner in his entire life, a man by the name of Gregory Jones, whom Wilde met at university in Oxford, and they were together for five years, up until just after he published his book (probably for the best they broke up, but more on this can come within the rp if we get to it, or info given if asked)
He went to Oxford University, from ages 17-21, then went to the University of Glasgow for his Masters from 21-23. His degree is in English Literature, with a Master's in Fantasy.
He wants to pursue a PhD at Cambridge
He is autistic, but has no diagnosis
