🌄 Brokenridge 🌄
this page will act as a divider and information page for the Brokenridge pack
This pack is located throughout the Rocky Mountains - scattered and spread out, they are more like rogues within a singular territory, with defined borders and power dynamic. Though they actually are a fully recognized pack, and a very large one indeed.
Their power structure is not the typical hierarchy most packs have. Being so spread out, they function in different Tribes - each Tribe having an official leader. The Chieftains of each Tribe form the Council, and when decisions need to be made for the overarching pack, the Council will convene. An amalgamation of different Indigenous Cultures, they are also remarkably diverse. Wolves from outside packs will often come in to train or learn from the various tribes, and either stay and officially become part of the pack, or sometimes leave behind a little pup in the womb of their mother. Totally their own thing outside Indigenous cultures - though those similarities can be drawn - the Brokenridge pack is a community of wolves who are in-tune with themselves and the world around them.
Sometimes called the Berserker pack, thanks to the way they are in battle - like the Viking Berserkers who fought in "trance-like fury" and were incredibly difficult to take down. Pain registration is nearly nonexistent when these wolves give into their fighting nature, and the only way to stop them is to win the battle or their death. This is a trait shared among the majority of Brokenridge wolves, despite how many of them there are. It isn't as common in smaller, less powerful tribes, but the major tribes - the ones who have a Council member or have a shot at having a Council member - most certainly have this trait.
Far more removed from society, they aren't 'uncivilized' like many claim them to be, to further stereotype and add fear of the mountains in which these wolves reside. Many werewolves still fear to tread in the Rocky Mountains - many werewolf ghost stories take place in these mountains, and in the past, wolves have been known to disappear without a trace. Usually, though, those wolves weren't disappearing because they were killed - they were taken in by the Brokenridge pack, nursed back to health, and often times chose to stay.
Close to the Goddess, they also believe in deities outside of her, though she is still on top. Not believers of Unizer, they are still respectful of religious differences. In addition to the Goddess, Brokenridge wolves also believe in Hunterra - the Huntress - and Galenva - the Gale - and Stonra - the Stone - and believe them to be the children of the Goddess, meant to look after them. Hunterra taught them to hunt and Galenva keeps their scents hidden and the winds strong to protect them, while Stonra made and blesses the mountains that protect them and form their homes.
Just as often found in their wolf forms as their human forms - which means a strong pack link, though different than Yellowstone's - they always travel in groups. If you encounter a lone wolf in the Rocky Mountains, they likely aren't from Brokenridge - and if they are, their companions either died or they are an idiot. Predators beyond them live in the mountains - they aren't foolish enough to believe themselves the only ones. They are incredible hunters - both in wolf form and outside it. Very few Brokenridge wolves will leave their mountain homes, but if they do, it is only because whatever coaxed them out is important.
There are seven main tribes of Brokenridge which form the Council, though not all are of equal size, and are named after the river, pass, or mountain peak they may reside near. "The Rocky Mountains stretch some 3,000 miles from British Columbia and Alberta in Canada through Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and down to New Mexico in the U.S." (Google/Wikipedia). But the mountain range is so large, that there are many much smaller tribes and groups unrepresented in the Council, though all must agree to have one of the Council members represent them - otherwise they are a rogue tribe within Brokenridge territory. When a Council member dies, there is no guarantee their predecessor will fill their place in the Council - sometimes the leader of another tribe will take over, claiming their seat in the Council.
Fighting between tribes was far more common before, but there are still some animosities that run deep. Thankfully, the Council is hardly ever convened, and it is possible for other packs to make alliances with a singular tribe rather than all of Brokenridge.
The Current Council is as follows:
1. Hesperus - located in Colorado in the Hesperus Mountain, they are led by Jove Conrad
2. Borah - located in Idaho in the Borah Peak, they are led by Hava Garland
3. Truchas - located in New Mexico at in the Truchas Peak, they are led by Pico Perez
4. Teton - located in Wyoming in Grand Teton mountain in the Grand Teton National Park, they are led by Tamara Bridge
5. Granite - located in Montana at the highest peak of Montana Rockies at Granite Peak, they are led by Mala Jetson
6. Greenhorn - located in Colorado as well, they are located at Greenhorn Mountain, they are led by Dahlia Haversham
7. Nebo - located in the Wasatch Range in Utah, this pack in situated at Mount Nebo, and are led by Payton Igoe
Though the Rocky Mountains do include Yellowstone and Yellowstone National Park, Yellowstone is it's own separate pack, and it predates the formation of Brokenridge.
Most homes are built into the mountain itself, such as the image below, where others are just basic cabins, or even tents in some tribes. Some live in actual cave systems interworked into the mountains - long forgotten by humans, and easily hid.
Brokenridge has non-werewolf members, too. Though only in certain tribes, and it isn't a known fact outside of Brokenridge. Usually human - and usually a human that wandered into the woods or mountains and got lost or injured - these members, once proper pack members, are treated with the same respect as any other pack member.
Deities
*disclaimer - some tribes believe in deities specific to them, but these three are worshipped by 90% of Brokenridge tribes*
The Triplets, as they are called as a collective, or The Triad, are the triplet daughters of the Goddess, in charge of different aspects of werewolf (and wolf) life. Each of the three of them represent something sacred (in accordance with Brokenridge beliefs) and are given just as much merit and belief as the Goddess - though the Goddess is still on top, and always will be. Though some Brokenridge wolves also called the Goddess other names, such as The Moon Goddess, Luna, or Mother Moon (or even just Mother).
Hunterra - The Huntress. Hunterra is the oldest triplet. She taught the wolves and werewolves to hunt. She taught them the proper formations, and the proper prayers and rituals, to thank an animal for giving up their life for the nourishment and life of the wolves. Though hunting has changed much over the centuries - over the millennia - the spirit of Hunterra is there with every kill and every ritual. A portion of every meal - whether hunted or not - is burned or set out for Hunterra as an offering to her. Some more extreme packs - those whose religion borders on fanatic - have a designated wolf who eats the offering, believed to be the Huntress's vessel on Earth, chosen by whatever spiritual leader resides in their tribe. Hunterra is the most rational and serious of the Triad.
Galenva - The Gale. Galenva is the middle triplet. Responsible for protecting the wolves from outsiders, they believe she does this through strong winds (gales), blowing their scent away. She also taught them how to stay downwind on a hunt, how to scent the winds for danger, and for some of the tribes (like Hesperus), gifted wolves with the ability to hear/read the winds (Windreader). Those who can are her chosen few, given the gift so that they can protect their tribes and pack from outside threats. Wind storms - and storms in general - are signs from Galenva, meant to be respected and feared. Galenva is the most unpredictable and aggressive of the Triad.
Stonra - The Stone. Stonra is the youngest triplet. Responsible for their homes and territory, Stonra created the mountains to house the wolves. Created the tunnels and caves to give them shelter from the storms - her sister's wrath - or anyone or anything that may hurt them. These mountains also prove to be labyrinthine to outsiders - they can only be mastered and traveled by those who live there. Unwavering and protective, Stonra is who gives wolves their sense of community. Stonra is the gentlest of the Triad.
