2. Colorful Carnations

*You guys know I'm doing this based on a tumblr post right? No? Well now you know.*

// Dean's POV

"Excuse me, could you tell me where the Daffodils are?" A woman with long blonde hair asked him.

Dean looked up from the papers he was fixing and smiled widely.

"Of course ma'am." He walked from behind the counter and headed towards the middle section of the small shop where a few pots were labeled with the word, Daffodil on them.

"Here we go."

The woman smiled and examined them.

"Do you happen to know what color they are?" She asked shyly.

Dean chuckled and shook his head.

"Unfortunately not. But I have been told they are all mostly yellow."

The woman smiled and looked at them again before picking up a pot with a few flowers bloomed and a few still waiting.

"I'll take this one." She smiled widely.

Dean smiled and walked with her back to the counter to pay.

"Thank you!" She waved and left. Dean waved and walked through the isles of flowers.

He wandered around until he reached the very end, where his favorite flowers were.

Lilacs and Hydrangeas.

He had no idea why he liked those best, they just seemed like the most organized. When he could see color, with Lisa he would walk with her through some gardens full of them and he loved their color....maybe that's why they were his favorite.

The Hydrangeas were his absolute favorite though. He loved that they could change color but he liked them better when they were blue. But he hadn't seen them since Lisa.

He hoped he'd see their color again before it all ended for him.

+++++

"Rush hour!" Benny's voice rang through the shop. Dean quickly organized a few things and waited.

Soon enough, there were more people in the city, filling up cafes, malls, and toy stores.

Dean looked up at the clock and drummed his finger on the counter top, waiting patiently.

A few people stood outside of the shop, admiring the flowers that were out there. Of course, most of them ended up just walking away.

A little girl and her father walked in, smiling.

"Hello! And welcome to your friendly neighborhood flower shop! I'm Dean." Dean chimed happily.

"Hello! Daddy I want to see the Tuwips!" She said, pulling on her fathers sleeve. The man smiled and looked over at Dean expectantly.

"Of course, they're just over here." Dean smiled and walked out from behind the counter and walking towards the specific flowers.

"Here we are. The Tulips." He finally said and turned to face the little girl.

The small child squealed happily while her father grabbed a vase and headed to a different isle to look for other things.

The little bell on the door rang a few times, more customers! Yay!

Benny was at the counter now, so Dean helped other customers.

Then for some reason, a giant group of people, who all looked important, and a few other people ran into the shop, observing different flowers and running people over and bumping into Dean at the same time.

"Hello, and-- uh welcome to your friendly neighborhood f-- " Dean tried introducing himself but was cut off when the most unexpected thing happened.

There was a flash of color.

It was just for a second.

But the entire shop and what he could see outside the windows burst with color.

And it was beautiful even if it was just a glimpse of what the world actually looked like.

But it was gone just as fast as it had appeared.

Dean just stood there shocked as the people walked away and further into the shop.

He would never know who it was, there were too many people who had bumped into him.

Dean was so shocked, he didn't notice the man standing about two feet away, their backs facing each other. And he was just as shocked.

// Castiel's POV

Castiel stopped dead in his tracks.

What just happened?

Everything had been bright for a second and then poof, it was gone.

He had never seen color before and now he had. It was a flash of it but he saw everything.

The flowers had bloomed with color for a spilt second.

No...he was probably just imagining it.

Castiel quickly shook his head, trying to forget it and wandered further into the shop.

He could never see color and frankly, it frightened him. To see things differently than he lived them. You see everything a certain way and you have formed a specific life style that way and then it all changes. Even if it's for a few seconds, it changed. And it frightened Castiel because he didn't know what was beyond his little world of grey and he didn't want to know.

Seeing color means you've "found your soulmate" but many people had seen color with him when he couldn't. Seeing color may mean the other person might not see it and he would feel like everyone else. Alone...like he always was but still. Castiel didn't want to feel rejected, if someone came asking him if he saw the color too, he'd tell them he was asexual and end it there.

Castiel found himself walking quickly through isles, not sure what he was looking for. Well, he knew what he was looking for but he wasn't quite paying attention.

"Uh...may I help you?" One of the workers asked, smirking at him.

Castiel stopped walking and looked at the other man. He was tall and was wearing a green apron stained with dirt patches and painted leaves on it. His hair was spiked up and his eyes seemed to twinkle underneath his glasses. Castiel knew they might be a bright color because the sparkling was almost white. However his eyes seemed to be shocked. And he seemed a bit out of it, as if something happened to him.

"Y-yes...I was um...I was-- looking for my favorite flower..." Castiel mumbled, looking around.

The man chuckled and walked up to him.

"And what's your favorite flower?"

"I...I really like Carnations." Castiel looked back at the man.

"Right. I'll take you there. Name's Dean by the way."

"Castiel."

"Castiel?"

"Castiel."

"Cas."

"Cas?"

"Cas. It's shorter." Dean winked and walked ahead. Castiel felt heat rising in his neck and onto his cheeks before following the man.

And then it was all strange again...nothing was grey. At least, not the grey Castiel was used to, sure it was still grey, just everything seemed brighter.

"They're out back in the garden." Dean explained and led him out of a back door.

"Here we are." Dean smiled and stood in front of the garden.

Castiel looked around and smiled and the numerous types of flowers but payed more attention to the Carnations in front of him.

Dean pulled out a pair of gardening scissors from the pocket if the apron and cut a single dark (but bright for some reason) Carnation from the stem and examined it. He looked at the petals and threw it in a bag where Castiel assumed they kept the dying flowers in.

"I'll take this one." Castiel smiled and pointed at a pot full of dark and light grey Carnations.

"Awesome." Dean smiled and lead them back into the shop.

As Castiel pulled out the money needed and paid, Dean was carefully pulling one of the flowers from the dirt in the pot.

"Here..." Dean smiled and extended his hands outward to Cas, holding the flower.

Castiel smiled and reached out for it, feeling the heat in his cheeks again.

Castiel grabbed the flower by its stem, their fingers brushing against each other and color to bloom through the entire city.

Both their eyes widened, their hands still touching as they both held the flower.

And it got weirder.

There was still color.

Dean blinked a few times in amazement.

"Can you see it too?" He asked, excitedly looking around in awe.

No...

Don't do this to the poor guy

I just met him...I shouldn't even be here.

But--

"See what?" Castiel asked. Trying to look confused.

Dean looked back at Castiel, also confused.

"T-the color...you-- "

"I don't understand...besides, I'm asexual. I have never seen color in my entire life."

Dean pulled away from him, leaving the flower in Castiel's hands. He looked hurt.

"Right...yea ha, I was only joking. I mean why would I see color? It's probably my stupid glasses. I haven't seen color in a while and I guess I just missed it and imagined it or something." Dean stated looking away and laughing.

Castiel bit the inside of his cheek and grabbed the pot.

"Yea that's probably it. Sorry."

"No, it's fine." Dean smiled widely at him but Cas could see the hurt in his eyes. "Thank you for visiting your friendly neighborhood flower shop."

Castiel nodded and ran out the shop.

He had no idea where to go. He didn't feel like going anywhere so he ran back home.

Gabriel probably wouldn't be there cause he was still at work.

Castiel ran, bumping into people but there was no color.

He had hurt him. And he just met him!

Dean had seen color and Cas had completely rejected him.

But Castiel had seen the color...and it was frightening.

*Hey guys! I haven't updated in a while and this is barely chapter two but I hoped you enjoyed.
Also in the picture, I know it's a rose but just think of it as a Carnation okay?
