August 18th National Bad Poetry Day.

Today is National Bad Poetry Day,

it is to encourage us all to write,

everyone has a poem in them,

so pick up a pen, let your words unite.

William Topaz McGonagall was a Scottish weaver who also wrote about 200 poems including "The Tay Bridge Disaster" which is regarded by some as the worst in English literature. He started writing poetry in 1877 and continued for another 25 years, delighting and appalling audiences across Scotland and beyond but they would throw rotten fish at him and eventually authorities banned him, he died a pauper on September 29th 1902. However his books remain in print today and some of his quotes are remembered more than those of other more famous poets. I have read The Tay Bridge Disaster, I enjoyed reading it.
