Today is World Day for Decent Work,

a day when every trade union unites,

a day to demand decent jobs,

a day to respect workers rights.

Only 7% of working people are in a union,

yet millions more need their protection,

they should be given the opportunity to join one,

instead of being met with rejection.

October 7th has been chosen for World Day for Decent Work by the International Trade Union Confederation, (ITUC), it is to show determination to build a better world for working families now and in the future. According to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, decent work is employment that "respects the fundamental rights of the human person as well as the rights of the workers in terms of conditions of work safety and remuneration, respect for the physical and mental integrity of the worker in the exercise of his/her employment"
