Today is world Multiple System Atrophy Day,

a neurological disorder affecting the brain,

it is caused by shrinking of nerve cells,

and it affects men and women the same.


With the death of nerve cells in brain and spinal chord,

symptoms of autonomic failure may be noticeable,

also motor impairments will become evident,

making muscle movements uncontrollable.


Multiple System Atrophy is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by loss of cells in the brain and spinal chord, which can lead to a variety of symptoms affecting the motor system and the autonomic nervous system, it usually affects people between 50 and 70 years of age. Symptoms can include slowness of movement, tremor or rigidity, impaired speech, fainting caused by low blood pressure, bladder control problem. The cause of MSA is unknown, it is very similar to Parkinson's disease. There isn't any treatment to slow down the degeneration of the cells nor is there any cure. Those diagnosed with this are expected to live for another 7-10 years only.
