Today in Austria is a public holiday where banks, schools, offices and businesses are closed, transport runs a limited service. After the second world war, Austria was occupied by four Allied Forces, Great Britain, France, Soviet Union and the United States. Talks over a State Treaty were concluded in the spring of 1955, the treaty was eventually signed on May 15th 1955 in Vienna's Schloss Belvedere and came into force on July 27th 1955. The final remaining foreign troops left Austria on October 25th so October 26th was the first day of its new independent and sovereign state. The Austrian Parliament also passed  law on this day to have permanent neutrality.
