Today is International Day of Rural Women,

to make people aware of the role they play,

by making use of natural resources,

they keep poverty and world hunger at bay.

Accounting for nearly half of the agricultural workforce,

they produce, process and prepare food available,

so many depend on them for their livelihoods,

depend on them to put food on the table.

The United Nations International Day for Rural Women is celebrated on October 15th each year, it was first observed in 2008 by the UN. The day was finally established by the General Assembly on December 18th 2007 recognising " the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agriculture and the rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.
