Two Evils
Author's note: Sometimes you have to see the world through the eyes of a villain to understand their point of view.
Rush:
Meanwhile, back in the Ambassadors of Evil headquarters...
At a quarter past midnight, Rush paced around the conference room, haunted in his thoughts.
His past and his present intertwined so much together until he only knew one thing to be true.
There was no way in hell that he would let his brother get away with this.
He'd just overheard from his uncle and Blackheart in the next room over that his brother had run away from Warehouse 13 and there would have to be a professional sent after him.
I'm a professional, he thought to himself. I'm one of the best assets that Ambassadors of Evil has and I will be one that gets the mission of retrieving his brother.
The problem was that no matter what he could not let this become personal. When he was given his orders, he would be calm-faced, neutral in his expression and would politely obey his superiors this once so that when the time was right, he would get his revenge on his brother.
He thought that maybe it was time for the Masked Death to appear again in his life. However, every time he let the Masked Death out people died, but this time he had more control.
There were worse things than death for people to experience; he had learned that when he became the Masked Death.
It was ridiculous that the police thought that the Masked Death was dead in a ditch somewhere. That was not the case, rather his persona was now Rush, his father's/family's assassin and mentee of the Assassin Division leader, Blackheart.
He was being ridiculous-an assassin such as him did not need a rogue serial killer to do the dirty work for him. Once James, his brother, was dead, he would have the opportunity to take place as the true heir to the Ambassadors of Evil empire. He should have been the heir from the first place, alas apparently the Book of Secrets chose James as the next Evil Hand. Their uncle was the current Evil Hand and once he passed on from this life, James was supposed to be the leader of the international criminal organization that controlled and/or collaborated with terrorism and big crimes all over the world. (He had heard of a rumor that the Evil Hand even worked with alien dictators, but that had to be pure poppycock. Aliens didn't exist.)
Author's note: Are there Aliens in this universe??? Not telling.
He was interrupted in his thoughts by an ebony door slamming behind him.
It seemed Blackheart and the current Evil Hand, Mockingbird, had deliberated and finally come to a decision.
"Oh Rush, have you been waiting this whole time?", Blackheart asked as he wiped his bow and stroked it carefully. What? Was the mighty Blackheart afraid of what Rush might do? Please, it was only the Masked Death who let himself be so careless when it came to distinguishing friend from foe.
A trained company assassin and an anti-social serial killer were incompatible personalities to hang out together. One was prone to following orders and killing so as not to be seen and the other would make a bold statement out of their kill. The only similarity being that they both killed, but for different reasons.
The Book of Secrets had made Rush who he was meant to be and destiny would help fulfill his greatest desire-being the Evil Hand himself and making the tough decisions his uncle could not cope to bear. His uncle was weak and soon Rush would take over his place.
The only person standing in his way now was his brother and he would be out of the picture soon.
"I just heard the news. Is it true that James escaped?", he feigned non-interest and yawned even though he was not sleepy at all.
"Rush, I know what you're thinking and no, you are not going after your brother. Mockingbird and I have talked and..."
Rush interjected, secretly furious, "What do you mean? I am the one who knows my brother the best and this is not my first time retrieving a target."
"Exactly, your personal history will blind you and lead you to make costly mistakes. That's why I'm going instead.", Blackheart replied.
Abandoning his plan, Rush attempted to reason with Blackheart.
"Are you mad? My brother and I share the same superpower and I happen to be very good at picking at his weaknesses. If I was my brother, I would have either gone off the grid or gone somewhere that the AoE could not find me..."
"You're not the only one who has an interest in getting your brother back, Rush! I am also highly trained at retrieving targets lest I remind you I used to do that for a living in the military."
He paused before saying, "You are just an angry kid who lets out his rage by killing others. If it were up to me, you would have gone to boarding school just like your brother, but its not. Your whole life you've been envious of his life and you think that now's the time to settle the score? You're unpredictable, Rush! How do I know you won't risk exposure to civilians or worse..."
He whispered the last part, "Become the Masked Death again."
"That was a onetime thing", Rush mewled to his mentor, but his mentor paid no heed.
"Master Kenobi, what would you have me do then?", Rush asked.
"Stay with the other cadets from the assassin school, train with them and wait for me to bring back your brother. There is a likely chance that if he has spilled AoE secrets, there will be a trial set. He was never loyal to the cause, not like you were dedicated to it anyway.", Blackheart responded.
Rush nodded, seeming to agree, as his mentor passed by him on his way.
"I'm coming after you brother", he whispered. No one would get in his way.
The chase was on.
Author's note: Welp, James better run.
