Shame
Author's note: Thanks for adding this to your reading list. It's almost finished and I am going to make edits to the first few chapters, but thanks!
Is WGM turning into a CW show? Anyways, has anyone seen My Hero Academia? And no, I did not watch MHA or any CW shows really. I have been influenced by Sky High and Xmen though.
James:
POW. CRACK!
As I ducked from Rush's strike, the former park bench crumpled from his blow.
Man, Marcus could pack a punch...a kick. He sure showed that rotted wood who's boss!
All jokes aside, out of the corner of my eyes I saw Maria staring at us fighting for a few seconds. Was she going to try and stop the fight? I hoped to God she did not join in because Marcus meant business this time and would stop at nothing if it meant my imminent and utter destruction.
It was times like this that reminded me that he was a steel trained fighting machine compared to me who only fought in practice matches when I felt like it. He had come a long way from being a skinny weak kid that I remember, but my older brother would kick my butt if I didn't concentrate on defeating him.
It's funny because up until Maria defied my commands, I had been willing to give up and go down willingly. Guess it took someone like Maria to give me an incentive to keep living. I wanted to see her again in this life and not the next!
Did I have a crush on her? Maybe, but right now, I had my brother to take care of.
He would never stop hurting people if he could help it. AoE had created an assassin that had rebelled on them and he was a danger to everyone around him. All he wanted was the suffering of others and that was not something I could shoulder even if I was involved in the process that turned him into this killer I saw before me.
Moving my feet, I sidestepped and parried to my brother's face, letting him feel the pain of enhanced strength.
"You ********", he screeched out loud before evading my next kick, licking the blood of his hands and taking a defensive stance.
"Tired yet?", I called out.
"NEVER!", he screamed.
"That's what I thought", I muttered under my breath.
Speaking of unexpected surprises, where was Maria?
I had seen her sneak away using my peripheral vision and I was starting to wonder if she was going to leave me her to Rush's devices.
I mean it's not like I cared about her movements; it would be better that she protects herself from my lunatic brother, right?
You can lie to everyone but yourself, James.
Is that an awful thing when the voice in your head is right?
Suddenly, from the back of my head, I felt eyes on me .
"What?", I uttered, causing Marcus to withdraw his blow and look towards the watcher.
"That devil!", Marcus cursed. "He can't stay of out my business, can he?"
Turning sharply, I inhaled as I saw someone drop and roll from a high perch to the cement floor landing with an abrupt thud and popping upright like a daisy.
Who was this guy? Where did he come from and how long was he been watching us?
"Rush, we had an agreement, remember? You can only kill people you're ordered to which does include your brother!", he said as he pointed towards Marcus.
"Says you.", Marcus spit out.
The man in question came closer and I got a closer look at him. He had to be at least 6-feet tall, appearing as a brown-haired, buff, stone cold-eyed, poker-faced individual with no trace of an accent. A rugged face and a weathered tone of voice along with a matching rough beard gave him the appeal of an outdoors-man, but his well-kept mane made me think otherwise.
Honestly, he was someone that could blend into a crowd all but for his eyes which pierced like a hawk.
It was at this point of time that I realized who he might be and that I was in deeper trouble than I could ever have imagined.
"I did not sign up to be your babysitter, Rush. Now step away from James and come with me. We have some things to talk about.", he stressed as he waved for Marcus to leave.
"No.", Marcus stated, almost pouting as he warded off continued attempts by Rush for him to go with him.
"Do you have any idea what I had to do to track you down after you up and left?", the individual asked as Marcus conveniently did not respond.
Well now he decides to shut up of all times! I groaned as I prayed that my problems might fade away if I just wished hard enough.
Blinking my eyes several times, I opened them to the same reality.
The only thing that was different was a shadow by the park bench.
Was I imagining things now? And where was Maria now? Had she gone to get help?
Bzzzz. POP.
I saw the stranger tilt his head and rub his neck before doing an about-face and thrusting forwards with his hand.
"What do you want?", he called out to a choking Maria.
That creep!
"Let her go!", I yelled out.
"This girl tried to electrocute me.", he stated as if reading from a cue card and then touched his ear with one of his fingers. "Who is she?"
"She's James's playmate.", Marcus answered.
"No, she's not. Leave her alone.", I said as I inched my way to his position.
"I would not do that if I were you, James. Do you not know who I am?"
I suspected, but there was a small part of me that hoped that he was not involved.
The head of the assassin group was not someone to mess with lightly.
"I'm not sure, but does your name happen to be Blackheart by chance?", I replied.
"One and the same.", he responded.
"You...I called...they're on their way...", Maria squeaked words out as she struggled to breathe.
"Hmm. Change of plans. She'll have to come with us then.", he said, releasing her from his tight grip and finally letting her breather.
At this moment, I took the opportunity to swing-kick only for Marcus to block me and Blackheart knock me down to the floor.
The last words I heard were from Blackheart as he mouthed,
"He's been expecting you, James."
Author's note: Mockingbird coming up next chapter.
