Chan and Woojin dash across the street, their chests rising and falling at abnormal speeds. Woojin glanced at his hands, then his arms. Where his naturally long nails are supposed to be, are short filed down nails.
Chan runs his hands through his hair, not feeling the fur of his ears.
Woojin throws himself at Seungmin's door, breaking it open.
Seungmin wakes up at that and shoots up in bed. He spots the two older males charging at him and tenses up.
"Seungmin, where the fuck are our mutations?!"
Woojin paces as Chan watches Seungmin check for his ears, his eyes widening as he scratches his head continuously.
"Where the fu-"
"Guys, I think that potion did something to us," Minho says, strolling into the house, his hand on his backside. "My ass has no tail," he whispers.
Seungmin squints his eyes. "Say that again. I couldn't hear you."
Everyone freezes in their spots.
"Do you think it's permanent?"
Seungmin sighs: whatever was in the potion, worked; all nine of them had no evidence of being hybrids. Their powers didn't seem to work either: Minho didn't sneeze as soon as he stepped into the room; Chan seemed to pant longer than usual; Woojin still had his strength, but the sides of his arms were red from hitting the door, and Seungmin didn't hear the soft hum of the A.C.
Chan grunted. "I'll go tell the others, but who do you think did this?"
Seungmin watched Chan and Woojin leave the house through the broken door.
"That's a great question," Minho added, following them.
Seungmin looked around his now empty room. He was full of blanks, he didn't know who could've known. They didn't say, do, or show anything that could trace back to them — other than the feather, even then Hyunjin had it under control.
"It's like they read our minds..."
Seungmin paused, jumping to his feet.
"That's it! Whoever knows is a hybrid! But... who?"
///
"I really should tell the others," Y/n said, looking in the mirror. Her tentacles were gone, no signs of them ever being there. It seemed the potion also took effect on her powers too: she only heard snippets of what people thought, not full sentences. "But then it'll reveal me."
"Dad, will the potion wear off," she asked her father that stood outside her room. She pulled on her clothes for the day and opened the door.
"Well, of course, it'll wear off, but when is the problem," her father said, deep into thought. He had a hand on his chin as he looked at his daughter. She dressed in a crop-top and shorts; no places to hide a mutation — that's what they need.
"If you hadn't recklessly taken some and gave the rest away, I would've had enough to research with. I have none left, and we still don't know the side effects, Y/n."
"I'm sorry, but I had to try and help, dad. I couldn't let people die for being themselves."
"You didn't even know if it would work!"
Y/n groaned at her dad. "I know, but aren't you a doctor? Can't you x-ray me or something to find out?"
"I am a doctor, but there isn't much time to experiment freely, you know that." He ruffled Y/n's hair. "And, no, I can't. Text me if there are any problems, or if you feel dizzy. Act normal and breathe, I don't want them to take you."
He gave his daughter a firm hug, glad she couldn't hear his thoughts; Edawn was terrified; if they found out his daughter was a hybrid, they'd kill on sight, especially if they found who her mother was.
Thanks, Hyuna.
"I will dad, relax," Y/n muttered, slipping a hairband onto her wrist.
"Look after those boys, too. They must be losing their shit."
///
Seungmin stood next to Jisung, the two of them completely losing their shit. Their jaws slacked as they watched Y/n walk past them, her hips swung in the short jeans shorts, the shape accentuating her curves.
"I've never seen her dress like that before; she looks so different," Jisung mutters, watching her glance at I.N. as she passed him. His eyes trailed across her body.
Changbin gave the girl one look, turning to his younger friends.
"We should change; fit in, show skin, make it seem like we have nothing to hide."
"That's the smartest thing you have ever said," I.N. speaks, walking back inside with Jisung.
Seungmin took a long glare at the girl's body; his eyes squinted in suspicion. Why would she suddenly dress this way? Out of all days, today? She always covered her body in multiple layers of clothes, not unnatural in their school. Why today, especially with the test today; why today?
Was she hiding something?
Was she like him, burdened with mutations?
Was she a hybrid?
Did she give us the potions? No...
"Dude, come back to your senses and go change," Changbin says, shoving him inside.
///
Y/n winced, her back slamming against her locker door.
"What did you do," Johnny shouted, his voice filling the empty hall.
"I didn't do anything, let me go I'm already late to class," she replied, not meeting his fiery eyes. His anger was focused in his hands, knuckles white at his sides.
"Stop lying!"
Johnny's hands slammed at the sides of Y/n head.
"You did something to me! Where are my mutations..." he trailed off, voice going quiet as two boys passed them.
Felix and Jisung gazed at the girl and boy. "Are you okay, Y/n," Jisung asked, eyes focused on the arms that trapped her.
"Yeah, I'm good," she said, watching as Johnny stepped away from her, hands reaching up into his hair. He bit his lip, worry wiping across his face.
"G-go to class, we'll be there soon." She shooed them off, Johnny's fragmented thoughts reaching her. The two nodded and turned the corner, their exposed arms catching Y/n's attention.
It worked for them too.
"Ho-how did you know? A-are you a hybrid? Please, d-don't tell anyone," Johnny pleaded, creating space between the two teens. His hands shook as he held them out weakly. "I don't want to die."
Y/n wished she could read his mind, but she only heard parts of his frightened rant. She would have to rely on her words. "I would never kill one of my own."
Johnny sucked in a breath, freezing in his spot. "...I knew it! Y-you were bleeding and-" Y/n's hand slammed over his mouth. "Shut up," she hissed. "Or, everyone will hear you."
He removed her hand. "B-but, what did you do? My wings are gone, and so are my powers." He looked down at the girl, closing in on her once more.
She backed up, slipping away. "My, uh, dad made a potion. It supposedly gets rid of hybrid... stuff for a limited amount of time... but..."
Johnny leaned forward. "But what?"
He watched her play with her fingers and clumsily shuffle around.
"We, uh, don't know the side effects or... reallyanythingaboutit," Y/n sped her words, ducking her head shamefully. "I just took some myself and gave a little to you."
Johnny sucked his teeth. "Great."
Y/n went through multiple scenarios in her head before looking up.
"Give me your phone number, and if anything happens, text me. I'm sorry for doing this to you."
"It's good, sorry for slamming you into the lockers."
Y/n shrugged. "I was expecting it, but I'm not expecting the effects of the potion."
He nodded, taping his number into her phone. "At least we won't die, right?"
The girl said nothing.
"Fuck me."
"Fuck us, actually."
"Now, you say something?"
