Students screamed.
Students watched other's eyes slowly shut as they fell to the floor.
Students pushed and shoved, yelling insensitive comments.
In the middle of all that, the teachers and workers of the school shared the same state; unbelievable emotion ran through them.
Seungmin, Minho, Y/n, and Hyunjin felt it the most.
Woojin picked up the eagle-hybrid as he cried out loud, his shouts no match to the fear he felt inside of him. That was his feather; that was Hyunjin's feather.
The light brown color matched the shade of the ones connected to his back, the ones under his well-worn jacket.
His life was on the line.
Hyunjin's fists held onto Felix, who's eyes focused on their other friends.
Seungmin was leaning into Chan, his legs turning to jelly as every scream pierced his head. Jeongin did his best to cover Seungmin's sensitive ears, but the walls of the auditorium made each little sound louder.
Minho was uncontrollably squirming, his body shaking as he coughed and hacked when each time his breath wasn't occupied by a sneeze. Jisung and Changbin surrounded the cat-hybrid, hands reaching to help the boy up.
"We need to get them out of here," Chan shouted, throwing an arm over Seungmin. "There's too much going on!"
The nine of them moved.
Those who were okay helped those who were immensely affected.
Though being pushed and shoved, ears becoming sore from the noise, they got the three outside, and into the cars they conveniently took today.
Unbeknownst to them, they left the girl on the floor, head flooded with voices pounding at her mind as if it was a dam, desperately staying strong in hopes to keep those around her safe.
///
Y/n bit her lip; her hands tangled tightly into her hair. Everyone was in panic around her, and she knew who's to blame.
She would never say who, just that she knew.
People scream out loud and in their head, hurting Y/n twice as much. Most were scared, some were angry, some were confused; it was all a mix, but all thoughts hurt the same.
She tried to help those around her while concealing her pain, but that didn't end up well. Her nose was now bleeding, the heat in her head building up. If she didn't get out soon, she would hurt those around her; the dam would break.
A nearby hybrid watched as she showed signs that only other people of their kind would notice: a string of blue blood trailing her lip. He nudged his friend, who was in a state of shock, better composed than most.
"We need to help her!"
His long legs took him to her. He quickly picked her up without a word and brought her outside, his friend following after. His gray sweater wiped the blood from her face, keeping her secret hidden.
"Are you okay?"
Y/n looked up at the man. He was a similar age as her, maybe even in one of her classes. She then looked to the smaller boy next to him, he looked younger, but only by a little.
"Yeah," she replied, breathlessly, "j-just a panic attack."
The two nodded, one didn't believe a thing.
Y/n tried her best to search for their minds, but over everyone's, she couldn't.
"Students, tomorrow will be a physical test. Those who found to be hybrids shall be sent to the government immediately."
The intercome message reached even beyond the school grounds.
Everyone was to hear it.
The girl swallowed hard, shakily picking herself off the floor.
The smaller boy reached forward, helping her up.
The taller one stayed frozen in his spot, eyes wide.
"Do you need a ride home," the younger one asked.
"Y-yes, please."
///
"Y-yes, please," Seungmin stuttered out to Chan. The older male patted his back, rubbing the head of an asleep-Minho before getting up.
All nine of them had gotten home about an hour ago. Hyunjin and Minho had calmed down and fallen asleep. Seungmin would've done the same if it were not for his killer headache.
Jisung helped with Seungmin's head; his hands painted green as his powers went to work. "What are we going to do?"
Woojin sighed, glancing at Jeongin and Felix, who had passed out a few minutes after they got home. "I don't know. We have to act normal. It's going to be hectic, but we'll make it work."
"Do you think we missed anything? I mean, we did leave almost instantly," Changbin said as Chan came back, handing Seungmin a glass of water.
"We must've; they can't just say that and let hybrids run around. I think that we need to be careful tomorrow — more than usual," Jisung said, his hands lowering from Seungmin's head.
"There, all better. Just don't stress it too much."
Seungmin nodded, gulping down his water.
"We could ask Y/n what happened; I didn't see her chase after us, maybe she stayed," Chan said, watching Jisung slowly slip into peaceful rest, his energy low from the use of his powers.
It took a lot out of him to stop the pain of Minho, Hyunjin, and especially Seungmin.
"Wouldn't it be suspicious, though? We did run out, leaving her there. She might suspect us and tell someone," Changbin said, running a hand through his dark hair.
"I didn't hear her shout after us, or even scream herself. All I saw was her drop to the floor," the oldest male said, head tilted back into the couch. He was telling the truth; Woojin saw her fall to the floor before he picked up Hyunjin, but that was it.
"We'll be on guard tomorrow; we can't attract any attention."
Changbin and Woojin nodded, slowly falling asleep.
Before Chan became the same way, his eyes caught a glimpse of a car pulling into Y/n's yard.
///
Y/n caught a glimpse of her house through her blurry eyes. The smaller boy looked at the girl in the back seat. "Are you okay? Do you need us to help you inside?"
Y/n waved him off with her hand, slipping out the car. One-step and she tumbled over, her mind swirling. Both men jumped from the car, rushing to her side. "Nope, we're coming with you."
Dad, I'm outside, I need help, the girl sent to her dad, the message making her vision blur objects together. Before the two kids could get Y/n to the door, the father bursts out of the house, grabbing the girl and scurrying inside, leave the two kids shuffling after.
Y/n's dad felt how weak she was in the message she sent. It wasn't her energy that was weak; it was how scared she was that made her vulnerable. Her mind was doing its best to stay under control, but with the ones around her going crazy, it was hard.
"What happened," the dad asked, placing his daughter onto the couch.
He scanned the two boys that followed after him.
"T-they announced that there are hybrids in our school and people started to freak. Johnny noticed her and helped her outside. She wasn't in a good state to be on her own, so we drove her home," the younger one says, eyes shifting to the taller one, Johnny.
"Thank you for helping her, what's your name, son," he asked, eyes roaming the smaller boy.
Y/n sighed when her dad placed a cold rag on her forehead, her eyes shifting over to the two standing awkwardly in the room.
"My friends call me Ten."
The dad nodded. "Okay, can you two stay here, I'll go get Advil. I'm E'Dawn, Y/n's father."
Johnny and Ten nodded, taking the spots on the couch. Y/n head dipped forward, drops of blood flowing from her nose.
"Woah, woah, you're okay," Johnny said, grabbing a tissue as Ten held the girl's head back. He covered her nose before Ten could see the oddly-colored blood.
"S-sorry, it sometimes happens," Y/n muttered, fluttering her eyes closed, hand grazing Johnny's as she grabbed the tissue from him.
Something clicked.
Her eyes opened, staring into those of Johnny's.
A hybrid.
She searched for his mind, reading it.
A crane-hybrid.
He stiffly backed up, eyes not reaching the girl.
Dad, I have a subject, bring out some of the potions. Y/n prayed her weak message sent.
She tensed, hearing her father respond. I still don't know the side effects; it could be hazardous.
Her father came back, a bottle of Advil and a bottle hidden behind his back. He took two pills and handed them to Y/n.
"Will you help me get a glass of water, dad? Johnny, Ten, do you want water too?"
"Yes, please," Johnny replied, his throat feeling dry. He played with his hands, the veins popping out. Ten glanced at the hands of his friend and placed his on top. "Don't worry, she's okay," he reassured.
"Yeah," Johnny sighed, his mind somewhere else.
She knows.
///
"Let me see the potion," Y/n beckoned, her hand reaching for it.
E'Dawn hesitantly put it in her palm, "It's not safe; we can't just risk him like this."
Y/n pulled out three water bottles and opened the lid of two of them. "How much should I put?"
E'Dawn sighed at his daughter. "You're not listening to me; he could get hurt."
Y/n glanced at her father from over her shoulder. "You're right," she said, screwing open the potion's lid. She put the glass to her lips and gulped down a mouthful.
E'Dawn lurched forward, snatching the bottle from Y/n's grasp with a gasp. "Are you crazy," he shouted, his daughter wiping the excess from her lips. He lowered his voice as the two boys in the living room stood up. "You're risking your life right now, and for what?"
"Is everything okay," Ten called, walking towards the kitchen.
"For hybrids to live, dad," Y/n hissed, quickly fixing up the bottles. E'Dawn opens a cabinet and places the potion inside.
Ten and Johnny stepped into the kitchen. "What happened?"
"I spilled water, sorry for the wait," Y/n says, handing Johnny the bottle Ten reached for. "T-thank you again for helping me home."
"It's no problem, thanks for the water," Ten says as Johnny gulps his. "We'll see you at school tomorrow." He dips his head as a goodbye and walks out of the house.
Johnny followed Ten out the door, a small chill running up his spine. He shouldn't be worried; he's sure the girl is a hybrid. But he's scared Ten might find out, that he'll tell someone.
If he tells someone, they'll look into Johnny too and realize that he's a hybrid, then the both of them will die.
They both got into the car, releasing a small breath, each for different reasons.
///
E'Dawn watched the car leave with squinted eyes. "How do you know that the tall one's a hybrid? What if you just killed a regular person along with yourself," he growled, glaring at his reckless daughter.
"Have my powers ever failed me," she asked, backing away from him. She stared at her hands, switching her weight between legs. "How many more doses can that bottle make?"
"Why?"
Y/n clenched her jaw, eyes never leaving the mixture that her father held. "There are other hybrids that need to survive... please."
E'Dawn kept silent, watching the emotions run through Y/n's eyes. "I..." he trailed off, not being able to form words. Slowly, he lifted the potion, placing it into his daughter's reach.
"Please, don't be wrong."
