Chapter 1
Anna Williams
"Okay guys! So we're gonna play a fun game tonight, called 'truth or drink'. You all already know, but I would still like to repeat the rules. One rule; very simple; answer the question you've been asked or take a shot of your drink." Alyssa said and turned towards Jace. "Jace...." she dragged his name.
"N-O, no! Not happening!" He protested.
"Please Jacey...." We all said in unison.
"Okay fine! Do whatever you guys feel like!" He gave up with a huff.
"Okay people! So, are we up for it?" Asked Alyssa.
"Yessss!" The crowd cheered.
And... here we go. A big circle of people came to play the game. Jace took their credit cards from them beforehand. So apparently, last time we played this game, half of the people didn't pay for their drinks. And us being us, we didn't pay as well. So it was a loss for Jace. He owns this bar.
"So, Jace you wanna play?" I asked.
"No thanks, ladies." He replied.
Everyone got their glasses filled, ready for the game.
"Tell me your biggest secret." Alyssa asked a stranger. He looks in his twenties. He definitely is hot! And Alyssa definitely is trying to hit on him!
"I kind of had the biggest crush on you for a long time. I mean I still do. I see you everyday at this bar." He answered. Definitely a flirt! What else was I expecting?
I shared a look with Jace. "And after this you might see her every night in your bed!" I added a comment. The crowd laughed. I heard Jace chuckle from behind me.
"Okay! Moving on!" Alyssa said.
"Jace, who is your biggest crush?" Alyssa asked. We all knew the answer to this. But Alyssa just decided to try and embarrass Jace a little bit.
"What? I'm not playing. I already told you guys." Jace said busying himself with some work.
"Come on, Jay! Don't be a killjoy!" Samantha said.
"You guys already know the answer to this!" He said wiping the already clean counter with a bit too much of force.
"But they don't!" Alyssa pointed towards the crowd.
"I'm not playing." Jace said and getting away from us, placing the glasses sequentially.
"What a killjoy!" Sam pouted. "Anyways, anyone wants to ask us anything?"
Then there were rounds of flirty questions, indirect flirting, drinking and a lot more fun. Yes, what we do is stupid, but fun!
To avoid unwanted questions I may have drunk a lot, because, what I found next morning on waking up, was something I surely was gonna regret.
°°°
The next morning I shifted on a comfy bed with a familiar scent. What bothered me was that scent. I usually end up hooking up with someone after such nights, just to forget the night later. But this was different.
I jolted up when realisation hit me and I recognised that scent.
Jace!
Shit!
I woke up to look at his peacefully sleeping figure next to mine. He wasn't the type of guy you'd like to hook up with; rather, he was the guy you'd like to spend your life with.
I slowly got dressed, sure to not make any noise to wake him up. I'll deal with the confrontation later; I'm not ready now.
My hand was on the handle of the door, ready to open it, when I looked back. Jace looked so cute!
So being the stupid girl I am, I might have walked towards the bed and I might have sat down beside him and I might have ran my fingers through his soft hair.
He groaned slowly waking up, breaking my trance that I was in.
I suddenly got up ready to leave as he grabbed my arm from the back.
Shit!
"Don't go," he pleaded, "please". And that ladies and gentlemen made me soften and I made the stupid decision of staying.
"Okay!" I said without thinking.
°°°
"How's it?" Jace asked. So currently, I'm sitting with Jace in his living room. He made us the tastiest pancakes I've ever tasted in my life for breakfast. He's acting way too calm. And here I am, internally freaking out.
"Good!" I muttered not looking up from my plate.
"Do you want to talk about last night?" He asked. That make me look up from my plate. Our gaze was locked. I nodded my head.
"Look, I know last night you were drunk, and whatever you said shouldn't count, but I can't help it. After all they say 'A drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts'." He said.
Oh God! What did my stupid mouth speak last night?
Taking my silence as a cue he continued, "Look I don't expect anything. I know it was just meant to be a casual hook up, but you know that I'm not the one for hook-ups. I actually like you a lot and that's not unknown. But last night you actually confessed how much you like me. I know you might not want what I do, and that's totally fine. But being the idiot I am, I'm still gonna ask, do you by any chance want something serious with me? Like ever? If you're not ready now, I'm going to wait for you."
This is what I hate about this guy! He's so considerate, always. Any other guy would've accused me by now of playing with their feelings, but he didn't. If he could do that, maybe I wouldn't have developed the feelings I have for him.
I shook my head which hung low in shame, unable to meet his eyes.
"Knew it!" He muttered getting up.
"Aren't you gonna finish your breakfast?" I asked. I had the urge to smack myself in the head for saying that.
"Not hungry anymore." He said.
"Please don't walk away." I grabbed his arm. "I'm sorry!" I almost whispered.
He sat down pulling a chair close to me.
"Look, last night was meant to be with a random stranger and not you! You know I'd never play with your feelings, right?" I looked at him with concern. I could almost see him breaking. Again!
He nodded.
And then he did the unexpected, but I sort of saw that coming. He leaned in to catch my lips with his, and I let him. The kiss was soft at first but soon became an open mouth kiss. I got up from my chair sitting on his lap kissing the living daylight out of him.
After a few pleasure filled moans and groans we both pulled away to breathe. I rested my forehead against his and panted for air.
"By the way, we didn't have sex last night." He said still panting for air. "You know I wouldn't want it that way with you. And I'd never do that, especially when we're drunk."
I don't know what happened next, but I got up quickly and said "I need to go," marching towards the door.
He came in front of me to block my way. "Did I say or do something wrong?" He asked.
With a sigh I shook my head. "No." I said. "I just realised how amazing of a person you are, and I don't deserve you Jace."
"I don't care if we don't deserve each other, I just want to be with you, all yours!" He said cupping my face in his hands.
"Jace, you keep chasing me and I keep running away from you. Just for once, please stop and look around. This is not where we wanted to end up!" I said. I looked as his eyes glossed up and his hands left my face.
"I'm sorry!" I muttered opening the door and walking out.
After five minutes of walking my phone vibrated for a text. I took it out reading the texts from Jace.
I'm sorry for everything too. Can we go back to being best friends and forget this night ever happened?
Okay! Deal!
I replied smiling at my phone. This is how we're meant to be. And this is how we should be.
I tucked my phone into my pocket and kept walking, the cool wind hitting my face. I always loved this feeling; these windy mornings. It gave me a feeling of freedom and happiness.
