Chapter 9

"Why not?" Hitoshi whined, acting like a child that didn't get their way.

Izuku just started at him blankly. "Are you seriously asking why you can't kill me mother? The only family I have left?" He asked back.

Scoffing, Hitoshi kicked himself off the door frame and made his way over to Izuku's bed. "You consider someone that chucks plates at your head family? Such low standards puppy." He said, looking over at Izuku's window.

Everyone in the room stared at him for the nickname. Izuku could feel his face heating up. What was with that guy? Why was he borderline flirtatious one minutes, and the next he was an insensitive prick?

Hitoshi seemed to notice the eyes on him. He looked back over with feigned innocence. "What? Does he not remind you of a puppy?" He asked Bakugou, pointing at Izuku.

"Well damn, you got me there," He said sarcastically. "No! Deku does not remind me of a god damn puppy." Bakugou spit at his boss while crossing his arms. He couldn't hate the prick more in that moment. He had the audacity to come strolling into his best friend's life and drag him into the very danger that he had tried so hard to protect him from.

Hitoshi rolled his eyes. "Watch your tone Bakugou." He said back, just like every other time Bakugou got mouthy. It never seemed to work and sometimes Hitoshi had to get creative. Bakugou had gotten some interesting punishments, ranging from actual torture to not being able to cook for a month. The cooking one was the hardest of him.

"What'd ya gonna do? Keep me out of the kitchen for another month? Knock out a tooth? You've become repetitive." Bakugou said, feeling extra sassy today. His annoyance had been bubbling up since he figured out why Izuku was in the restaurant.

Hitoshi leaned against one of Izuku's walls, smirking. "Repetitive, you say? Want me to get more creative? Stay away from this one, indefinitely." Hitoshi said, pointing a thumb in Izuku's direction, causing both Izuku and Bakugou's eyes to widened.

"You can't be serious!" Izuku said, finding the whole thing ridiculous. It's not like Bakugou would actually have to listen either. Right?

"That's not fair, to either of us." Bakugou said, standing up and trying to dig himself out of the hole he had landed in. He should have known better than to back talk with Hitoshi right then. He was already in a foul mood.

"Just trying to spice it up a little bit." Hitoshi said, loving the sheer panic that had settled onto Bakugou's face. "Now get out of here." He said, nodding to the bedroom door.

Bakugou looked torn. He had just gotten his best friend back and found out he was being abused by his alcoholic mother, leaving him wasn't high on his list of things to do that day. On the other hand, he knew better than to disobey Hitoshi, especially after he had already fucked up.

Before anyone could move, Todoroki made his appearance, clearly confused at the sudden tension in the room. "Whoa, what'd I miss?" He asked, his calculating eyes switching between the other three males in the room.

"Shinsou's trying to tell Kacchan that he can't ever see me again." Izuku explained, crossing his arms with a huff. He was annoyed with there childish power plays.

Todoroki's eyes widened before zeroing in on Bakugou. "What the hell did you do?" He asked, more curious than apprehensive. He knew how Hitoshi could be, the littlest thing could set him off. Hopefully it wasn't to bad and he'd be over it in the morning.

"He didn't do anything! He disagreed with Shinsou that I remind people of a puppy. Okay, so it wasn't the nicest way to disagree, but it's Kacchan, what does anyone really expect? This whole thing is stupid and -" Izuku was cut off.

"Puppy, breath." Hitoshi said, enjoying watching how worked up Izuku was getting, but not wanting him to faint from a lack of oxygen. The whole situation was quite amusing to him.

Izuku gritted his teeth and shot a glare at the purple haired male. "Don't. call. me. that." He said, his temper rising.

Something sparked in Hitoshi's eyes. Something sinister that sent a shiver down Izuku's spine, and not the good kind.

"You two, out. Now." Hitoshi said, not taking his eyes off of Izuku.

"Like hell-"

Izuku looked over at Bakugou, cutting him off. "Calm down, like he seems to remind me every two seconds, if he wanted me dead," he looked back to Hitoshi. "He would of killed me when I refused to give him seven shots of espresso."

That actually managed to crack Hitoshi's calculated and detached amusement, and spark a real smile to form on his face, only for a second. Izuku was still able to catch it and mentally patted himself on the back. It wasn't everyday he made a mafia boss genuinely smile.

"Seven shots- What?" Todoroki asked, beyond confused at what Izuku was talking about.

Hitoshi growled in annoyance. "Get out!" He said, more forcefully. It started everyone in the room, causing Izuku to visibly jump. With one last look at the green haired boy, Todoroki and Bakugou were out of the room.

Once they were gone, Hitoshi cleared the few feet that lay in between him and Izuku. Grabbing the front of his shirt, Hitoshi pulled Izuku off the bed an inch or two and closer to his face. "I know I said I like how feisty you were, but your attitude is really starting to get on my nerves." He said, his voice bitter as he held Izuku helplessly in his hand.

"Then leave." Izuku shot back, not backing down. He had let people push him around and step on him all his life. After graduating high school, he was determined to not let that happen ever again. This was him sticking to his promise to himself.

Hitoshi was taken aback by the response. He let his monotone expression drop, longer than usual, and allowed Izuku to clearly see how off guard he had caught him.

"Why are you even here?" Izuku asked, deciding that he wasn't dead yet, so he took it as a sign to keep going. He had a strange hunch that Hitoshi wouldn't hurt him, at least not to bad.

Hitoshi caught himself at that question, slipping his look of indifference back into place, buy it was to late. "I told you, you intrigue me. Plus, I hate abusive parents." He added as a side note.

The last part caught Izuku's attention. Most people hate abusive parents, for obvious reasons, but Hitoshi as a mafia boss, that title didn't strike Izuku as a family man type of guy. "Would you look at that? You have one redeeming quality." He snapped back. He would be softer, but that was hard when the guy had a death grip on the front of his shirt, holding him off his bed.

"For your information, I have a lot of redeeming qualities." Hitoshi said with an eye roll, finding the argument pointless.

"Knowing how to clean up a crime scene is not a redeeming quality." Izuku said, grabbing onto Hitoshi's hand and trying to pry it off his shirt.

He was not succeeding.

Hitoshi looked down at him with an amused smirk. "Having fun puppy?" He asked.

Izuku didn't stop trying, resulting to hitting Hitoshi's wrist with his fists. "Why do you keep calling me that?!" He asked, clearly annoyed with the nickname, which just made Hitoshi want to use it more.

"Because you're the embodiment of a puppy. You're about as threatening as one to." Hitoshi said, still watching Izuku struggle. "It you think you can hit me hard enough to let you go, you're wrong. I've been through much worse than... well this." He said, actually letting a small smile slip on his face as he continued to watch Izuku.

He hadn't noticed he had slipped up again, so when Izuku halted his movements and just stared up at him in awe, he was a bit concerned. "What?" He asked.

"You were actually smiling, and it lasted longer than two seconds." Izuku explained, still a slightly in awe by what he had just saw. He liked Hitoshi's soft smile, it was a nice change of pace from the tired smirks he usually wore.

Hitoshi just stared at Izuku, his deadpan expression back and not leaving any time soon.

"You should smile more often." Izuku added as an offhanded comment as he got back to work on trying to get out of Hitoshi's grip. "It's nice."

The comment struck a cord with Hitoshi. He decided to throw the puppy a bone. The next time Izuku tried to pry his grip open, he let him.

Izuku fell back onto the bed with a thud and a smile of victory. "Ha! I did it!" He said proudly with one of the biggest grins Hitoshi had ever seen.

He softly smiled, making sure Izuku wasn't paying attention this time. "Yeah, you did puppy."
