Calpurnia

It was the night of the party, and Millie was stressing.

"What do I even wear to these?" Millie asked, groaning before laying out all of her options on the bed. Maddie chucked and looked over to her options.

"Well they are an indie band, so nothing too fancy. Something so you will fit in," Maddie said, picking the leather skirt from Millie's options and pairing it with fishnets underneath.

"And take one of your black band shirts and tuck it into the skirt. Also wear your doc martins," she said, Millie nodding.

"I don't know what I'd do without you," she joked, Maddie laughing.

"Soo, what are you gonna talk to Finn about?" Maddie questioned. She still is kind of confused about the whole thing, but is still supportive. Finn makes her unbelievably happy.

"I'm not sure. I feel like we will just figure it out when we are with each other." Millie said, throwing on the outfit Maddie picked out for her.

"Well let's hope everything goes good. Fillie forever," Maddie joked, Millie rolling her eyes at the ship name.

"What? It's so cute," Maddie said, as Millie started to put eyeliner on her under eye and eyelids.

"It's dumb." She replied, Maddie chucking.

"You don't think this is too much?" Millie asked, looking at herself in the mirror. The full look was a lot, she's never really worn stuff like this but if she does it's rare. She's wearing a black band tshirt tucked into a tight leather skirt barely reaching her mid thigh. The fishnets added to the outfit, along with her shoes. She curled her hair, and did light eye makeup and added eyeliner and mascara.

"You look hot Millie, and trust me when I say this, Finn will love it." Maddie teased, Millie throwing her mascara at Maddie. Maddie laughed, looking at herself in the mirror. She was wearing black leather pants with a cropped calpurnia shirt Jack gave to her which obviously she cropped herself.

"Alright, let's grab the others and head out."

Millie was shocked to see so many people show up to the show, and how many people were dressed in the attire she was. She fits in perfectly, thank god.

Her and Maddie were chatting to Sadie about some random topic until they heard the crowd cheering like crazy.

Luckily, Jack knew they were coming so he got the group a good view from the top. It was a small place, but packed with people. There was a pit, and then there was a ledge with more seats and then people standing along the railing, where Millie and the group were.

The four band members walked out at the same time, everyone cheering for them. She saw Ayla, Jack and Malcolm go to their places and realized Finn was front and center of the stage with a guitar and microphone.

He never told me he was the lead singer.

A smile made its way to her face as she watched him take a sip from his water bottle and place it down next to him, looking at the crowd. She noticed the girls were screaming in the pit, specifically for Finn.

I mean, who wouldn't fangirl over him.

He was wearing a white tshirt with something imprinted on it, along with a jacket over the shirt with black pants.

"Hey everyone!" Finn said into the microphone, more people screaming. Ayla smiled, putting the mic to her lips.

"I hope you guys enjoy the show," she said, nodding to Malcolm as he started the beat for the first song they did.

Millie recognized the first song they did, Greyhound. She's listened to it before, and told Finn how good he sounded when he sang it.

About into the middle of the song, Millie's eyes were intent on him. It's like he could feel it, as he looked up and saw her with all of his friends.

She saw his eyes widen, raising his eyebrows. She smiled and did a thumbs up, and he subtly smiled back and did a thumbs up, continuing singing.

Finn did even better performing than he expected to, he wanted to do his best for Millie. He was happy she came.

"And that's it for the night. Again, thank you guys for coming out and supporting us, and have a great night!" Finn said into the microphone, everyone cheering.

Throughout the show, Finn's eyes would float up to Millie's, meeting hers occasionally. He couldn't help it.

After everyone was making their way out, Maddie led Millie and the rest of the group to the back where the group was.

When they arrived in the back room where the four were, everyone greeted each other. Millie met the band members when she went with Finn to his home for winter break, so she hugged them all and greeted them again. As they were all introducing each other to the rest of the guys, she felt a hand take hers and quietly lead her out of the room and into another smaller vacant one.

She quickly realized it was Finn, and he lightly smiled.

"Hey, I didn't know you were coming." Finn said, staring intently into her eyes which made Millie's stomach burst with butterflies.

"Uh yeah, thought I'd surprise you." Millie replied, Finn smiling.

"If I'd of known you were coming I definitely would have been better prepared," Finn joked, Millie laughing and nudging his arm.

It went silent after that for a second, and Finn took in Millie's outfit. He's never seen her dress like this, and it's...fascinating to say the least.

He's been staring at her way too long when he realizes Millie is staring at him practically drooling over her. His face immediately started to turn red.

"You look really good, I like the look," Finn said, trying to cover his staring up. Millie smiled, looking at Finn's appearance.

"Not too bad yourself. Your curls could definitely use a run through after jumping around, they're huge right now," Millie joked, Finn pretending to be upset at the comment.

"Wow, hating on the curls? These are the best feature of me." He joked, hoping to get a laugh out of Millie. Which he did.

"Oh yes, I could tell the girls were going crazy over you." Millie said, Finn shrugging.

"You know nobody can resist Finn Wolfhard." He said, making Millie laugh.

"Oh please." She said, the two lightly smiling.

It got quiet, and a little awkward. They don't really know where they stand. Finn stayed over last night, and they crossed a boundary. But they also had a fight at work, and Millie wasn't about to let that go. And what happened at the party.

It seemed like Finn was thinking the same as her, and looked back up to her when she cleared her throat.

"I wanted to talk to you actually." She said, crossing her arms over her stomach. He noticed she does that when she's nervous.

"Oh, what about?" He asked, Millie not meeting his gaze. She was trying to find the words when there was a knock on the door. She looked up to Finn, and they both looked at the door.

Finn went and opened it to see Noah.

"Oh thank god, I was not about to walk on something again. Let's go, we're having an after party!" Noah said, walking away from the two blushing teens. They shook it off, and followed him for the after party. They went back in the main room to see everyone talking to each other.

Maddie caught Millie's glance, and gave Millie a look of question. Millie shook her head, and Maddie sighed.

"Alright, where are we having the after party?"

It was already an hour into the after party, and more people ended up showing up. Millie decided it was in her best interest not to drink incase she did something stupid.

Finn did the same, but still had a good time and got high with his friends. His friends make him really happy, and hanging out with them makes him in a good mood.

Millie ended up going outside, sitting on the porch. They ended up hosting the after party at Malcolm's place, because he owns his own house near Mill State.

She sat down on the porch couch swing, the cold fabric making her shiver.

She wanted to talk to Finn, but got interrupted by Noah. But what would she even say? She doesn't even know what to say.

You hurt me.

Well, that's a start.

I want you.

Too strong.

I-

Her thoughts were cut off by the door opening to none other than Finn himself. She turned to him and he turned to her, lightly smiling to each other.

He silently walked over and sat on the porch swing with her, keeping a comfortable distance between them.

"Too hot in there?" Finn asked, Millie shrugging.

"Just needed a break." She responded, Finn nodding. They sat in silence for a bit as they looked into the dark street, and the stars shining. It was a full moon, so it was dimly shining down on the street. The crickets were chirping, and the air almost felt damp but cold.

"Are you going back to England for the summer?" He asked, turning his head to her. She nodded, looking down.

"I'm not sure when though. I have a lot to move out of the room in such little time before they kick me out of the dorm," she said, stress in her voice.

"Well if you need a day or two to get things sorted out you're always welcome to my home." Finn said, Millie turning to him. She was confused at his actions. He was yelling at her a couple days ago, but now saying she's welcome to his house?

"I uh, I wanted to say that I'm sorry." Finn said nervously, but she can tell in his voice that he means it.

"For what?" Millie asked. Is he apologizing for Iris?

"For fighting with you at work. It was uncalled for, and I said things I shouldn't have. Nothing I said was true, and I'm sorry. I was just upset." Finn explained, Millie taking in his words. She nodded.

"Thank you for apologizing." She said, and he nodded.

"I want us to be okay." Finn said, which took Millie off guard. She looked over to him, a surprised expression on her face.

"Everything is very tense, and I don't like it. I want to be able to hang out with you with the group, or even alone, and for it to be okay. The past is the past, and there's nothing to do about it except be upset with each other for it. I want to be your friend." Finn explained, Millie's heart racing.

She watched his eyes fall down to her lap, and she followed his stare to her lap. He slowly moved his hand over to her skirt, which has ridden up due to her sitting down. Finn took notice.

"I really like your look today. You look really pretty." He said quietly, his fingertips at the edge of the skirt, moving down to the fishnets. Millie immediately felt warmer in the cold air.

"Finn.." Millie said cautiously, making Finn look up towards her. He noticed the look in her eyes as she was staring at his hand on her, and he immediately took his hand away.

"I want to be friends too." She replied, making Finn look over to her.

"It's just- you can't do things like this. If we are going to be friends things like this can't happen. Especially what happened at work." She explained, both their faces reddening from the memory. She faced her head towards him and he did the same, a foot of space between them.

"You know me, and you know exactly how I act sometimes. You cannot take advantage of it. Because friends can't be like that. If we are going to be friends we need to stop this little stuff." She explained, and Finn nodded.

"Alright then. Friends?" Millie said, smiling and holding up her pinky. He chuckled, connecting his pinky with hers.

"Friends."
