LOTR: Against All Hope
Gollum/Smeagol's tale is a lot sadder and a lot less creepy than most think...
Cold he sat against the cold hewn stone
Alone he was, against all hope alone
His memories of fools such as he
But he the greatest that time had ever seen
A home, a friend, a boat, and then a Ring
This Ring had made him lose everything
'Not my fault' he says as he cries
'Not my fault' say all when life dies
"For the precious the murder was worth it."
"No! We wish me never found it."
"It was ours, for us! This treacherous little thing."
"Why did I? How could I? All for only a Ring."
Two faces the same but never truly one
If only he could see how freedom can be done
When good fights evil it will run and hide
But by these truths the Good would not abide
A Friend came then to lead him on the way
He knew the burden, knew it's horrid sway
Understood the hurt and loss and loneliness
The cold hard stone had beaten both to hopelessness
The sad creature then freed himself at last
The murder and Ring were finally in the past
A Friend he'd found and loved more than the ring
But believed betrayal was a hard and cruel thing
Two faces again now joined together as one
They crept and schemed and cowered from the sun
Friend didn't suspect the faces together to turn
He thought that the one was gone, but He learned
A returned betrayal and to doom He was led
The creature had once again hurt a friend
He crawled and creeped and slunk back to his old ways
Remembering the happiness of better days
Hot he stood against the heat of stone
Alone he was, against all hope alone
But that was how he liked it, with the Ring
By himself with that one, wretched thing.
