Gems
In a lobby for the doctor
Who fixes broken eyes,
With glass and plastic metal
And frames for young or wise;
My sister turns to me
With hazel in her gaze,
And says "write about gems,
So I find myself today,
Thinking of a beauty
In hard and rough and rock,
Turned glittering and crystal
Yet their beauty merely mocks,
A true gem that I've found
With hazel in her gaze
As sweet and bright as diamonds
She never ceases to amaze;
Today I name true glory
And true beauty as a whole,
To be found in my young sister
Who has a gem inside her soul.
