Thoughts Induced by Leading 150 Students in Protest #ENOUGH
I've been trying to decide what it was specifically that I wanted to write about the incredible thing that happened March 14th at 10-10:17am. Should I write about almost crying when I walked out and saw the sheer number of students? Should I write about the girl who ruined her multiple year streak of perfect attendance to attend? Should I write about how many people told me what the protest meant to them and thanked me for organizing it? Should I write about the power I felt during the protest? Should I write about linking arms with everyone and shouting enough is enough? As I was pondering all this I finally found the common thread, my takeaway from today. The common thread is the I. All of things that I just talked about weren't caused by an I, they were caused by a we. WE created that sheer number of students. WE encouraged that girl to fight for what was important. WE created that power. WE created a noise with linked arms that could not be silenced. WE created a voice that was heard. It doesn't matter that I wasn't in most of the news photos specifically even though I was technically the leader. WE were. WE did this guys. WE let the world know that these people WE're fighting for that WE lost, won't be forgotten, they'll always be fought for, and it's ENOUGH. Thank you for creating that we.
