The Book of Bonds

My day was not going  good. I slept in today,  twisted my ankle on the last step of stairs-which I magically  healed of course, then had to walk through The Herb Farm owned by the Roovers-which was as rough as nails, they don't  know how to maintain  their 'precious' dying  farm- since it was a shortcut and when I finally reached my school,  I found that I lost my assignment so I had to re-do it.

I studied at Hecate's  School of Magic,  the finest witchcraft and wizardry school in all of Orana. Every year, the headmistress chose the 20 most promising students to present an original  project. The top 3 projects  would  be compiled in the Anthology of Original Ideas, and the winner's  project would  be included  in syllabus  of all students.

That year's  theme for the project was a book. It was  upto the student what type of magic to incorporate. We just had 2 months time to complete it.
For 6 weeks constantly, I thought  of ideas, I even ate stuffed chicken with  whipped cream and tomato sauce because that's  what Allie, my best friend, told me helped her with amazing  ideas, and she always won stuff like these, so i just followed it. Of course, with my luck, that didn't work out for me. With each day passing by, the deadline came near and my nervousness grew.

I retired to my room and put in my earphones hoping to reduce some of my stress. The shuffle playlist played the first song. Dope by BTS. BTS has such a good bond among themselves. I wish I could have that.

Wait.

I literally perform magic. I can use that to make friends. Admittedly, that would be cheating but what's life without a little thrill?

Wait again.

I could use this in my project!

I quickly went over to my desk and pulled out the huge book of 'How to form Unique Spells' and tried to search for the right combination.

Mind you, magic isn't as easy as swishing and flicking your wand while you chant 'Wingardium Leviosa'. It requires rigorous hard work.

It took me 5 hours but finally at 3 am, I cracked it. I held the book on my palm and used all my energy to summon the magic in me. It was harder because I was exhausted. The book glowed in a faint golden light, something not easily visible to regular mortals, and I knew the magic had been transferred.

It works like this: The book is called 'The  Book Of Bonds'. Two people are needed for it to manifest it's job. Basically, one person has to write any random word or  sentence on a page if the book. The second person has to somehow find/receive the book. Once that happens, a bond is formed among the two people. Something related to what is written in the book by the first person will happen in between them. Once that event is complete, the page will disappear by itself. It's mainly like a conversation starter, a really fancy one.

Now, I only had to test if it worked properly or not. One wrong syllable wrong in the spell and my entire effort would nullify. I was so sleepy that I don't remember when I crashed.

The next morning, or noon, when I woke up, I got ready and hopped out of the dorm to check if my book worked. I had high hopes for it but also a lot of anxiety. If it didn't go well, I'd have to recommence my work.
I wrote 'Return the book yourself at 2 in the afternoon at the place of my choice ' on the first page with a pencil and put the book at the side of the road. I hid in bushes nearby to watch what happens.

A few people passed by without paying much attention to it. Some gave it a comprehensive glance as the book looked regal with its black leather covering. I couldn't help but sit there and admire my craftsmanship. Then came along a boy. He looked like he was 17 or 18. He had jet black hair, sea green eyes and a goofy smile I instantly found cute. He was walking with another guy whom he addressed as Jason. I was hoping that Mr. Cute Smile would pick my book. He didn't even have his eyes on the road he was so busy talking to stupid blonde besides himJ. And just when a pit of disappointment was going to settle in my stomach, his foot hit the book and he stumbled a bit.

"Huh, who could've dropped that here." he wondered aloud and picked it up.

I did a little happy dance in hiding.
I rushed back to the dorm and changed into better clothes. I didn't want to be my usual dorky self in front of him. At around 1:55 pm, I sat in the ice cream parlor near the school.

At sharp 2, the door opened and he came in with the smile that gave me butterflies.

"Hey " he said nervously, "I don't know who you are, nor do I know why I'm here but I just am. Something pulled me, literally. I know none of what I'm saying makes sense to you but your cute so... " He picked up a tissue paper and took out a ball point pen from his pocket. He wrote something, handed it to me and fled. Poor creature! Maybe this event creeped him out. I read his name: Peter Johnson.

A couple weeks later, I submitted my project on time and from the look in her face, the teacher probably liked it. That same evening, I went in the ice cream parlor, hoping Peter would be there. And  Voila!

"Hey Peter. I'm happy that event didn't freak you out. By the way, I'm Annabeth."
