Chapter 19
The lights of my room flicker making me cover my eyes with the pillow as I refuse to get up. But then my bracelet and watch starts to vibrate, which I have kept on the side table before going to sleep, letting me know someone must be knocking on the door.
Reluctantly, I throw the pillow and go to open the door. Mom's bright smile is the first thing that I see after opening the door, which instantly makes me forget my earlier annoyance.
"Morning, mom." I smile and hug her.
"Somebody has come to meet you." She signs while still smiling, making me curious.
"Who?" I cover my mouth with the back of my hand while yawning then I give mom a sheepish smile when she playfully narrows her eyes at me.
She hates it when someone talks while yawning.
"Come down and see for yourself." Mom signs and quickly walks away before I can ask her anything more.
Last night, I came back home really late after dropping Lina at her guesthouse. Another first in a very long time, as I don't even remember when was the last time I hung out of the house this late.
An involuntary smile lifts the corner of my lips when Lina's face comes to my mind. It seems like God has sent her to help me start living my life again, after making my life miserable.
I would admit that she is growing on me, I really enjoy being with her. When she is around suddenly everything seems so... normal. I feel normal... something which I haven't felt since my accident. Somewhere she has helped me to make peace with my new self, and at the same time, she helped me to reconnect with my old self which I thought was not possible.
My life doesn't feel like a burden to me anymore, and all this is because of this stupid girl who never fails to irritate me with her antics. Yet she is the one who understands me, probably better than my own self.
After freshening up, I go downstairs to see who has come this early, but my steps quicken as the thought of Lina coming to meet me passes through my mind.
Taking two steps at a time, I rush towards the lounge to find mom talking to someone. But my steps come to halt when I get a good look at who this person is.
"Jessica?" I frown in confusion to see her sitting with mom.
She stands and turns to me, giving me a nervous look while clutching her hands in front of her.
"Hey." I walk further into the lounge.
Jessica completely takes me by surprise when she pulls me into a hug when I am within an arm's distance. I hug her back awkwardly, feeling uncomfortable while I look at mom silently asking her what Jessica is doing here.
Mom simply shrugs her shoulders, looking as clueless as me.
"I am sorry if I am sounding rude, but what are you doing here?" I step away from her.
"I just thought to come and meet you, then maybe we can go out for breakfast together?" She speaks and I read her words on the screen of my watch.
"Please, don't say no." She quickly places her hand on mine, as I start to shake my head in no. "Please, Jase." She squeezes my hand.
I raise my eyes to look towards mom but realize she has left the room probably giving us some privacy.
I feel conflicted because even though I want to say no, but the way she is looking at me with hopeful eyes is making it difficult for me to decline her offer.
"Okay." I sigh and nod my head, and quickly create a distance between us when she is about to hug me again.
"Thank you." She conceals her dejected look by plastering a huge smile on her face.

"How long is she staying?" Jessica taps my arm to gain my attention as she poorly tries to sign the words which I have already read the moment she has spoken.
We have come to a popular breakfast place in our town, where we used to hang out earlier. Honestly, I should not be surprised that she choose this place as she loves to be a center of attention and if we are seen here together then by evening everyone will be talking about it.
I can already feel curious eyes on us, probably thinking what we are doing together as our break up was something that was not hidden from anyone.
However what is annoying me the most is, since we have entered she has been constantly asking questions about Lina. I feel like she is trying to fish out something, so I only give her short answers.
"I don't know, I haven't asked her," I answer her calmly, keeping my annoyance away from my tone, even though I know that Lina will not be staying for long and this thought alone causes an uneasy feeling inside me.
But my sour mood instantly turns better when my eyes land on a familiar face.
"Lina!" Before I can stop myself, I call her and motion her towards our table.
Her eyebrows raise in surprise as she glances in my direction, clearly not expecting me to meet here.
Jessica says something as my watch vibrates, but I don't feel the need to read what she has said because by the look on her face I can assume she is not very happy to see Lina here.
Lina walks towards us and greets Jessica with a polite smile then when she turns to me her smile widens which for some reason stirs the feeling of happiness inside my heart.
"Why don't you sit with us?" I offer and point at the empty chair beside me, "I know Jessica will not mind as we were just talking about you." I motion towards Jessica while keeping my face neutral, as I can bet Jessica wants to kill me for inviting Lina to join us.
"Really?" Lina arches her eyebrow as she pulls the chair and sits beside me, "What were you guys talking about?" She asks as she places her food tray on the table.
"He can't hear if you have forgotten." Jessica glances at her with distaste as if Lina has insulted me by talking to me normally.
"He can see and read if you have forgotten." Lina shrugs while making a yapping motion with her hand.
Jessica fumes in anger but tries to maintain her calm. On the other hand, I am thoroughly enjoying this.
"So, what you guys were talking about?" Lina asks again while looking at me expectantly, but I guess Jessica answers her question as she turns to glance at her.
Quickly, I move my eyes to my watch to find what is she saying to her since her face is away from me so I can't read her lips.
"I will stay here as long as I want," Lina answers with a nonchalant shrug, as she takes a bite of her muffin.
I nearly stop myself from laughing as Lina looks more interested in her breakfast than chatting with Jessica which irritates her even more than she already is.
"I have to leave as I have to open the shop," I inform after checking the time, realizing it is almost time to open my shop.
"Of course, we will get going as I know how much you hate being late." Jessica laughs as she gathers her things, behaving like she knows me better than everyone.
"Do you want me to drop you somewhere?" I glance at Lina because it doesn't seem right to leave her here like this when she is not familiar with this town.
"No, thank you." She shakes her head, while I read her lips and the text which is appearing on my watch so that I don't miss "I will just sit here and wait for the jewelry shop to open as I need to get my ring fixed then I will head back to my room." She takes out a small box and opens it to show me the ring.
"Your mom's?" Carefully holding the broken ring between my finger and thumb I look at her, even though I already know the answer.
"Yes." She nods as her stare is fixed on the ring.
"It is beautiful." I place the ring back in the box and hand it back to her.
"Thank you." She keeps the box back in her crossbody bag.
"Okay, I have to go now, but if you need anything then call me." Placing my hand on her shoulder, I give it a light squeeze, silently telling her that I am there for her.
"Bye, Lina." Jessica interrupts while giving Lina a forceful smile which Lina returns with a genuine one.
"Bye." Lina gives a small wave, shocking Jessica as she might expecting her to treat her the same way she did. But by now, she should know Lina is nothing like her.
"See you later." Leaning down I wrap my arms around Lina's frame completely taking her by surprise.
Straightening up, I notice Jessica glaring at us, but I don't give a damn what she thinks.
"See you." Light blush dusts across Lina's cheeks, making me chuckle in amusement.
