Chapter 14

All my anxiousness hits me with a force as the party comes in sight.

People dancing to the tunes of the DJ, happy faces filled with excitement, drinks following freely around the party. In less than a minute, I am able to find almost every familiar face at the party.

My starts stomach churns uncomfortably while bile starts to rise in my throat. Suddenly, I just want to turn away and get away from everyone and hide somewhere in a place where no one can find me.

However, the moment when a hand slips into my hand, I feel tension lifted off from my shoulders. Glancing down at Lina I give her hand a grateful squeeze and in return, she just smiles.

Suddenly my watch and bracelet both start vibrating at once and I get confused. She smiles and discreetly nods her head at the front and I look to find Nick making his way towards us probably calling our names.

"Press this button when you need a voice to text speech." She quickly mumbles pressing the button on my watch. As her words start to appear on the small display making me understand what she has just said.

Smiling, I nod at her as Nick approaches us.

Nick gives her a side hug and then embraces me tightly in a hug feeling emotional as this is the first time I came to a party after the accident. He pulls back and rubs his hand across his face then runs in his hair, trying to hide his tears.

This bastard will prefer dying before accepting that he is as emotional as hell.

Nick is trying hard to make me comfortable as we meet our old friends, but honestly, it is not the same as old times. I can read into their fake pretenses and fake concern. Still for the sake of my true friend I am trying to keep up with the conversations even when I feel they are forced.

After being with us for a few minutes Lina separated from us, mixing with the party crowd. Even though I want to keep her by my side, as her presence is making everything bearable for me, I don't want to ruin her first beach party experience so let her go.

However, from time to time, my eyes keep looking for her to make sure she is fine.

The gift which she has given means a lot to me. There is strange confidence in me, which was missing in myself, that I can completely manage on my own without being dependent on someone else.

But still, there are some things which I am surely missing but not as much as I used to miss them earlier.

Tap on my shoulder, makes me snap out of my thoughts, and turn to look to my side to find Lina standing beside me. Suddenly making me forget whatever was going through my mind, one minute ago, as my focus shifts to the small tilt of her lips as she looks at me.

However, I can't help but notice that I am not the only one whose eyes are on Lina. Although the heart inside my chest slightly beats fast because her eyes are only on me as if none of the people around us exists.

"I am bored." She pouts, tilting her head slightly to the side with a faint smile.

Then her face scrunches up as I feel Mike taking a step towards her probably saying something which she doesn't like. Since she is still looking at me I don't glance at the idiot to see what's his problem.

However, I am sure if he troubles her in any way then I am going to solve his problem in my own way.

She raises her eyebrows at me, jutting out her bottom lip, completely ignoring him.

In the next moment, anger mars her face as she tears her eyes away from me, to look at Mike. Immediately, pressing the button on my watch I switch my attention back and forth between my watch and them.

"I am not deaf, but you are dumb and I don't waste my time listening to dumbshit which you have to say." She glares at him, taking a threatening step towards him, "And if you continue to speak shit about Jason, then I will cut your balls and shove them down your throat. Understand?" The menacing look on her face is enough to make Mike nod his head looking terrified.

I look at the other guys in the group, some are trying to hide their laugh at Mike's expression, while some are sharing the same expression as Mike's.

While Nick is looking thoroughly entertained. But when his eyes meet mine, I can see the respect in his eyes for the girl who stood up for me.

My chest swells thinking about the way she came to my defense. And for the first time, I don't feel bad when someone made fun of me.

Turning to me with an innocent smile, she holds my hand pulls me with her making her way through the crowd as if she hasn't threatened anyone a moment ago.

"Let's dance." She nods her to the dance floor and twirls.

"I can't dance." I shrug and shake my head with a small laugh, "Remember..." I touch my ear and shake my thumb in no signal.

This is something which I loved the most but I have to let it go. As, how can I dance when I can't even hear the music?

Silently reading my thoughts, she rolls her eyes at me and huffs looking heavenward as she mutters something.

Jokingly, I smack her head and nod my head at her prompting her to tell me what she is muttering.

"You don't hear music, you feel it." She signs, "Allow yourself to feel the rhythm, then your body will follow the music on its own." A soft smile settles on her lips.

I can't entirely understand what she means, but there is something in her words that stirs hope inside me.

Taking my hand she leads near the speakers, as she slightly winces probably due to the loud volume. Then taking my other hand she places it on the speaker.

My eyes widen as I look at her realizing what she means. I can feel every beat of the song, the vibrations are following through my body. Even though I can't actually hear it but it feels that I am hearing the song.

The beats are fast and before I realize my foot starts to tap with the beat. Just like it used to when I was able to hear the music.

Happiness brew inside my heart as I glance back at her in shock and wonderment. I don't even notice when she has removed my hand away from the speaker because still, I can feel the music.

Holding my hand she slowly pulls me away from the speaker, with a mischievous smile tugging at her lips.

"Show me your moves, Jason." Her lips move and I feel like a sudden burst of confidence surging through me. She sways her hips from side to side while moving my hands along with herself.

Closing my eyes I concentrate on the music reaching to me in the forms of vibration, I can literally feel it thumping in my heart. Hearing doesn't seem important at this point, as every beat is reaching my heart directly.

Smirking at her, I take her hand and jerk her towards me. My other hand found its way on her back as I start to move with her.

She arches an eyebrow, shooting me an impressive smile as she allows me to take the lead of our dance.

Winking at me she turns around pressing her back against my front, as my hand settles on her hips as we move side to side while she throws her hands around my neck. Twirling her, I hold her against my chest, my hands are placed on her lower back while she winds her arms around my neck.

Securing my hold on her waist, I lift her up as her hands hold my shoulders in a tight grip. She laughs when I spin her while her hair forming a veil around us, as she glances down at me. Slowly, I put her down but none of us loosen our holds neither our eyes tear away from each other.

Our eyes are locked and for some reason, I am grateful, not able to hear anything. Because all I feel is her. Her breath as her chest rises and falls, the warmth seeping through her body settling somewhere deep inside me. The sparkle in her eyes brings inner peace in myself, knowing I haven't let her down.

Lastly, the smile which is gracing on her lips makes me want to do everything which I can to never let this smile fade away from her face.
