The ascent, always a challenge, always a thought

The ascent feels endless, through ice and snow

The descent feels daunting, as you know how treacherous it can be
The slipping and the sliding, the uncertainty of your way.

However once it begins, with such speed and pace
You can't help squeal with delight, with a gleam on your face
Sure the brakes might not work, on the slippery snow
But you feel alive and exhilarated, with every further glide you go.

At the end you are aching but it has all been worthwhile
To feel the buzz of it all and to actually smile
Not through a joke or situation but from sheer determination
For today, you have the feeling, of a real sense of achievement.
