On The Contrary

Contradictions are fascinating.

Like, cuddling in a blanket, warm, as a storm rages.
Or, chocolate syrup on vanilla ice-cream.
Or, the pearly whites of a dark skinned boy.
Or, the drip of crimson blood against pale snow.

"Try one." he extends the lit cigarette towards her.
She puffs like a veteran. As if her lungs were made for it.

He is skeptical.

"You didn't take it inside." He argues.
She does it again. And again.

"Look at you. The good girl. It suits you." He is fascinated. "You look hot,"

She's a contradiction.
Until she ceases to be one.
