Chapter 30
Chapter 30:
I visited the ruin a few times the past week, where I relaxed around and drew some of the ruins and sceneries. As the week past many visitors had shown up, Talia mentioned that it was due to an important event called the Red Night that was going to occur on the twenty-first of August.
The castle was crowded, yet Talia declared that that was still nothing. That many more people were on their way to the castle for the celebration. I had no knowledge of what the event was about only what it was called, but with gossip running around the castle like wildfire, I overheard that it was about mates.
Dmitry still avoided me, but I noticed in the mornings that his woodsy smell was everywhere. It completely overpowered the room and made my insides warm and fuzzy.
That day was no exception, I awoke with the smell of Dmitry around me and the bedding next to me crinkled due to a heavyweight. I was roaming the hidden passageways again when I overheard Dmitry's distinctive voice. That deep bass voice notes echoing down the walls, but he had a friend. Slowing down, I tried to listen to the two voices, the other sounded like a male too.
"It is an interesting predicament that you find yourself in, Dmitry." The second male voice spoke, it had aired confidence as it addressed Dmitry by his name, not his title.
The flame flickered to a peg in the wall, one I haven't noticed. Sliding the peg, I watched as a tall man stood in front of Dmitry. He wore his hair in the latest style, the chocolate coloured hair swept neatly to the side. He was not the same big build as Dmitry rather skinny. He had a bright smile on his face with bright blue eyes and tanned skin. He was neatly tailored into a crisp purple suit with pointy shoes to match.
"Can you do the spell?" Dmitry asked the man, who gave him a laugh in reply. Both of them were in what looked like an office. I assumed that it was Dmitry's office downstairs.
"Please, don't insult me. To me, those are child's play." He laughed almost evilly at Dmitry, "But you sure you want to do this."
"Yes, I have to know if she is my mate or not. If I could trust her, if not and she was lying to me, I would lose it. No one threatens me or my Kingdom, especially try and make a fool out of me with the promise of a mate." Again Dmitry ripped my heart into shreds. Boiling rage flooded my veins and I saw red, what did he want from more? He assumed all those things about me, me being a liar, a fake, someone evil who wished him harm when all I wanted to do was go home and see my family. He has not spent a mere minute with me when we came to Russia, always busying around, leaving me in the hands of strangers when he promised me he'll be there. He was the liar. He was the one who broke my heart with the words he spoke to the council. He was the fake that told the Elders he does not trust me, yet when alone with me he only spoke of how mates were to be treasured, how he could not lose me.
My breaths became rugged as a tugged at my hair in frustrations. I hated the feelings that bubbled and boiled within me, the whole journey to Russia has started to change me. I never had so much rage or the loneliness, my heart was never so broken and bruised as Dmitry has left it.
Running to the nearest trap door, the art gallery, I opened it and rushed outside falling to my knees in front of the statue of Romiavo. I read about her in one of the history books. She was a half-bred Omega who started out as a weakling, she wanted to be a warrior like her father and fight for her people in the war, but the people discriminated against her status of half-bred. With hard work and determination, she became one of the best female warriors the kingdom had and was given the status of Beta after the war. She became the first female Beta in the Kingdom and changed how they all saw and thought about half-breeds. She was the first step in equalizing them all.
Standing up, my eyes red with rage and nose burning with anger, I moved to find the study. If he wished to know if I was his mate or not, then I too should have the privilege in knowing that knowledge too. I too had a say in my future.
Stumbling upon a grant door that had the words King's office on, I busted the door open, not caring for manners. Inside stood the shocked strange man with wide eyes, Dmitry, however, was on his knees with his shirt off. It took me off guard to see him in that appearance, my inside wanting to throw water on the angry fire. He lifted his hooded eyes to me, the pain evident in his eyes.
"How dare you." The words left my mouth before I could stop them, "How dare you call me your mate, yet repeatedly slander it when speaking to others. He thinks that I am here to harm you when I barely knew that this realm existed. You claim me to be this nasty creature, yet you have not once try to get to know me. All you know of me is that from what you have learned in Fortbridge... it was one date. If you truly mistrusted me so much, why not leave back in Fortbridge. I was happy there, ready to start a future that made me happy. You promised me protection, yet here I am standing in front of you..." tears ran down my face as started to hiccup, "Broken. Broken because of all the things you say about me. My heart feels like it was pieces, pieces you scattered around so that I cannot find them. I feel all these emotions that I have never before and all I want is to have you holding me and telling me that it all be alright. But here you are doubting, I should be the one doubting. You were the one that came into my life and threw it all into a whirlwind of confusion. I learned all these new stuff, this world that is very dangerous for me, yet you think I am the one that may harm you."
I could no longer take it. My heart was rushing away from me, "I merely a confused and insecure girl that is being broken by someone who claims to have the best interests for me." Dmitry crawled forward and encircled me with his arms, although I was furious with him my whole being craved his embrace. He placed his head on my stomach as felt my knees buckling down. I fell into his arms and we embraced each other, sharing our confusion and pain together. For the first time in Russia, I felt him close to me. I felt like for the first time we were one being that shared every little thing with each other. He was the water that I needed and craved for the past few weeks.
"Dmitry." The man spoke again with a warning.
"I no longer wish to do so, I know how I feel. I know now that we are mates," Dmitry's voice spoke with certainty and clearance. I sat in his embrace, each of us staring into each other's eyes.
"Dmitry, it could still..."
"No, Leviathan, I can feel the bond. It is all real, I was just stupid enough to not believe it." His eyes showed the truth, he regretted everything he has said about me, he wanted me just as much as I wanted him.
"How'd she then know that you did not believe that she was your mate? She was clearly spying, why would she spy?" the man was getting on my nerves, yet he had a rational argument, my spying had placed me in a bad light.
"She has been roaming the hidden passageways these past weeks. I have noted her scent in them. She has not harmed anyone, but I was the one harming her." My eyes grew bigger in surprise, he all along knew that I was in those hallways. He knew that I was walking around the dark passageways. "Hence why I closed my study upstairs, I tried to stop her from roaming around them, they are dangerous." His eyes bore into mine in warning of not going into those halls again, my cheeks flamed in being caught with my hand in the cookie jar.
"Dmitry, it is best to know for sure."
"No." But I interrupted him with an agreement, "Then do it."
"All I wanted was for you to speak with me, to hold me and be truthful. I no longer wish to live in darkness, I too don't know what it feels like to have a mate. If it is this strange feeling of longing to you then I believe, but if you can give me physical proof, that will be even better. I am human, all this is new to me." I explained to Dmitry, maybe it was the better and more logical way of getting the true answers. I understand we were in a strange predicament and that he had to think of his kingdom. When I was mad, I was not thinking rationally.
"Are you sure?" Dmitry asked as I nodded my head in reassurance.
"Okay. Leviathan, show us if we are mates or spelt." Dmitry lifted me up into his arms and walked with me to the middle of the room where he previously stood. My cheeks went redder as I felt Dmitry's skin under my hand, it was smooth and warm with his heartbeat moving the skin lightly. He placed me on my feet in the middle of a circle that was made from different herbs and salt. Nodding his head to the man, he encircled his arms again around me and touched his head to mine.
"Red means you are mates, green means you are not." The man started to chant in a language I did not reorganize, as he started with his rhyme the circle began to glow blue which made my breathing stutter. Dmitry noting my distress pulled me closer and whispered for me to close my eyes. After an excruciating minute, the man stopped and a deathly silence overcame the room. My nerves on edge, I began to shiver, but Dmitry only pulled me closer.
"I should have never doubted the bond and therefore I am truly sorry," Dmitry whispered into my ears, opening my eyes slowly and gazing into Dmitry's eyes, I noticed the red light reflecting in them, proof that we were mates. "I shall be proofing my devotion to you for as long as I can."
