Chapter 2: Never Know
"Agh-!" You exclaimed at the impact.
"Oh, Alice! I'm so happy that you're here." He embraced you rather too fondly for your liking.
"Cut it out. What are you even doing?!" Your mood had turned sour.
He backed up off and placed his hands on your shoulders, smiling as happy as ever. "Just giving you a greeting that's all."
"It's (y/n)." You bluntly giving him a straight face.
Turning away from you he said "Is there someone behind me? Who's (y/n)?"
"Me." You gritted. "You got my name wrong just before." You said only to receive a puzzled look.
He chuckled "I'd prefer if you didn't joke about something like that. You are very important here after all."
"If I was so special you'd think i'd get better treatment, right? Where's the big welcome with all the streamers and big banner? Y'know, I think the best greeting I got here was being treated like a mutt that needed to be put down." Your piercing headache came back. "Ah, shit." You cursed to yourself. "If you're looking for an Alice there's already one around here. She's hard to miss." You began to walk past him.
"Named after the one he loved most..." You heard him softly say. Curious you turned around only to see him looking at the ground with a pained and angered look. He noticed you stopped. "My sister is just a wannabe. Some bimbo who thinks she can replace you!" You lost interest and began walking away. Much like before, the yelling was head piercing.
Two steps into town you unexpectedly became heavily disoriented. Sure, you had seen it from a distance but now, everything was tipsy turvy, you couldn't keep your head straight. You felt so un well that staying conscious wasn't an option anymore.

You woke up with a fright from the sound of lightning. Were you back in the real world, out of the dream? No. "It was sunny earlier..." you had resulted to speaking out loud to keep your emotions in check, not being over being on deaths door step for a bit there.
"It's wonderland, things change all the time. It doesn't need to make sense." The annoying voice from before was back, aka the one from the blonde with a pink streak in his hair. He had his hat off this time and his jacket on the back of the chair he was sitting on. You'd almost think he was a normal person without the whole get up.
"My wounds..." you looked at you arms, only scars remained. You also felt way better, not feeling unwell
"The joys of potions." He leaned back in his chair with his hands behind his head, making himself comfortable if he wasn't already.
You scoffed. If only things were that simple in your world. Just imagining those in need getting treatments like this made you feel better with a side of sorrow knowing it's not possible, for now at least. You looked at the guy and noticed he was watching out the window, you turned your head to look outside as well. A big gust of wind came by. You could of sworn you saw a mushroom with a face fly past 'help meeeee' could faintly be heard. In sync both you and him did a 'pfft'. You turned to him again. "Your name. You never introduced yourself." It seemed like bumping into him might be a common occurrence so it was better to learn it now.
"Oh gosh, oh gosh. I didn't say it earlier! Wait one moment, they it's better to say it over food." He rushed off and returned back with a... salad? It could hardly be called that as you looked down at the lettuce leaves mixed in with m&ms, skittles (that's a crime) and a few other chunks of junk food, topped off with syrup. You didn't even bother putting it in your mouth, you weren't Buddy from elf after all. "My name is... drum roll please... Nile!" He did some jazz hands.
"Let me guess, because you're always in denial?" You joked.
"Hardly. I happen to accept the truth unlike you, Alice."
"(y/n)." You repeated again. "Looks like you're a hypocrite. If I can't accept I'm Alice yet you can't accept that I'm (y/n) I'd say we're on the same level."
The wind had past and the sun was out again. You felt ignored as he pulled you out of bed. "Come here, you need to change your clothes. Those ones won't do." You were brought over to a wooden room divider to get changed. The outfit on offer made you blend in now. As you came out he spoke "Wonderful, now you're ready for the maze!" You didn't get a chance to question it as he dragged you outdoors and a long set of hedges was revealed. "All you have to do is get through before I catch you, with a four hour head start of course."
"Hold up, why are you making me do this? And what if I don't?" It felt like you didn't even have a chance to breath.
"You'll find out." He had a odd smirk to him as he encouraged you forward into the entrance. It really seemed like you had no choice.
Although suspicious you trudged through for a little while until it hit you how big this maze was. Did you even have time for this? You wondered what you should be doing right now. You accepted you were in a foreign land and crazy it was possible but you wanted to get back to normal, even if it meant avoiding your ex friends. You felt certain you had made it to the edge of the left wall. Climbing wasn't an option so you forced your way through the hedge. Branches grazed your skin and it made you flinch. Another thing that reminded you of the crash. Once you were out you felt like you were in a flat minecraft world. Nothing was seen in sight apart from the corner of the maze at the end.
You were back to following along the wall, turned, walked straight ahead again. Odd how you hadn't found the end from the outside yet. Which left the final turn, you ended up back at the start. It felt like he planned to put you through a wild goose chase. That's when you put your attention towards Nile. He dropped his pocket watch to the ground and it broke. Old and delicate it was. You guessed it hadn't been four hours yet since he was still there. His expression was pained? Pissed off? Maybe both. "You cheated." He breathed out.
"I'm not the one who didn't put an end in." You folded your arms as he came closer.
"If you went the right way then maybe you would have found it." He gritted his teeth pointing into your shoulder as you stepped back from him. "You don't get to complain when you are the one who can't follow simple rules." You pushed his hand away which he didn't react to well about. "Get out of my sight." He turned his back to you.
Well that's no problem but that was also the second person you had successfully pissed off today. You sighed, the town was back in sight again. What the fuck. Could Nile teleport or what?
