THINK OF IT THIS WAY:
Wonderland is a math test that you didn't study for, didn't even know was happening, and the second it's time to take it....you look at question 1 and know you're done for.
That's how I feel at this present moment. I wasn't prepared for this mystical world, and now I'm training to slay beasts when I really should be getting an earful back at the finishing school for running away from my chores.
But then...
Just as you're taking the test (or falling down rabbit holes), you feel a tap on your shoulder and turn around. It's a boy you haven't met before, but he's offering you a paper with all the test answers on it.
It's risky; you could get caught by the teacher, or you could pass the test.
So do you take his offer or decline?
I don't know! Don't ask me, I literally can't begin to think about an answer, which is why I'm coming up with stupid metaphors like math tests and Wonderland. Gosh, I really don't belong here.
But the point is, I'm feeling confused about Louis Patridge —the mad hatter that he is. He helped me gain my balance during this morning's training, but then he proceeded to jettison off towards Yenqum's village with the excuse that he needed more teacups. I couldn't tell if he was being genuine with his answer, or if he was just trying to tease me.
My head was still dizzy from the whole 'can I touch you' thing too. Sigh. I'm not qualified for having a brain, I can barely use it.
So here I was, laying on the grass field, staring up at the blue sky hopelessly. Emma and Daniel accompanied Louis off to Yenqums', so I was alone.
CRASH!
Or not.
Leaping up from my spot on the grass, I turned in surprise to see two familiar figures fall out of a tree and onto the ground. The red hair told me it was the Phelps twins immediately. At first they scrambled back onto their feet, dusting off their blue overalls, but then they looked at me suspiciously. How long had they been watching me from the tree?
"Morning," Oliver said, trudging over to where I was.
I blinked, "it's the afternoon."
"Only if you say it is," James cut in, "and we say it's morning, so it must be morning."
Gosh, this place was weird.
I slumped back onto the grass, tugging at the zipper of my leather jacket nervously. To add onto that math test, this new conversation was turning out to be another pop quiz. Where was Louis when you needed him? He was the only one who actually seemed half-a-bit like me.
My thoughts were cut off by the two twins dropping down next to me, James on my left, and Oliver on my right.
"Beautiful day, isn't it?" Oliver grinned.
I nodded, "yep."
"Beautiful scenery."
"Yeah."
"Beautiful grass."
I squinted my eyes as I stared up at the sky, suspicion creeping into my mind. "Mhm."
"Beautiful trees."
"Yeah."
"Beautiful Louis."
"Yup," I said.
And then it hit me like an ice cream truck hydroplaning down a highway at five million miles per hour. Shooting back onto my feet, I tried to ignore the insane beating of my heart as I stared at the two grinned twins. They had been planning it, and I had been too distracted to notice.
"That's not fair," I said quickly, "you tricked me into saying that, I didn't mean it in the slightest."
I did mean it, but they weren't going to know.
James giggled. "You still said it!"
James Phelps I will kick you into the sun and watch you burn to a crisp because I'm not going to sit here and let you laugh at me after you were the one who fooled me into admitting something that was (completely true, but) only so you could make fun of me for it.
Okay, I'm being dramatic, but what somewhat-decent main character isn't?
"Don't get so riled up over it," Oliver cut in, "we just wanted to have a little fun!"
I deadpanned, "haha."
"Besides, Louis wouldn't mind you calling him beautiful, considering he's taken a liking to you."
"Hahahahahaha...." I began to mutter, expecting them to still be joking around, but then I stopped myself. "I'm sorry, what?"
"He's taken a liking to you, the Hatter has."
I shook my head, ignoring the tightening of my chest, "he's just a flirt, that's all."
"To you."
"What do you mean to me?" I questioned, standing up, "he flirts with everyone, I heard what the others said."
After hearing those words come out of my mouth, the twins scoffed. It was like they had never heard anything so ridiculous. Was I being ridiculous? No, I may be irresponsible and over-dramatic most of the time, but at least I'm self aware. And I know for a fact I'm not being...ridiculous.
"I haven't seen him flirt with anyone other than you in years," Oliver piped up, turning towards his brother, "isn't that right, James?"
James nodded. "Absolutely right, Oliver."
"And there you have it."
So maybe I was being a little ridiculous, but how was I supposed to know?
I blinked. "Oh."
"I think you should go for it," James smirked, "besides, you already live together—"
"Temporarily," I cut in.
"And you both have enough tension to suffocate the entire kingdom."
"It's not tension."
"Oh please, don't even start," Oliver said, "You two are always staring at each other and what-not, and if you didn't find each other attractive, we'd think you guys were planning murder."
"What?"
"Nevermind."
I was about to open my mouth again, but I was distracted by the feeling of something furry brushing against my leg. Letting out a loud yelp, I leapt away from the spot, my eyes peeled for the creature I just encountered.
A white ferret was standing on its hind legs, looking at me with it's beady eyes. It looked evil.
I shivered.
James and Oliver laughed.
The ferret rolled it's eyes.
And then it snapped it's fingers, disappearing into a thin cloud of sparkles and smoke, only to reappear as a lanky blond wearing school robes. I nearly fainted—not because he was surprisingly good looking—but because he literally shapeshifted in front of my eyes like it was nothing.
"Stay back!" I squealed, stumbling away, "stay back I say!"
James and Oliver were still laughing, and the ferret boy was now giving me a sour look. Maybe he was offended that I was so scared of him, but I was being completely reasonable! He was an animal! He's now a Human (which is still technically an animal) but STILL! WHAT THE HECK?
"Malfoy," he said, "Draco Malfoy."
"AhRhGhhH," I blurted out in panic, whipping out my pointer-finger towards him, "I swear you were just a ferret a second ago!"
The blond in school robes just rubbed the bridge of his nose, his lips pursed into a thin line. He had a pompous aura emanating off of him, which I didn't find comforting, but he turned to look at me.
"I transfigure from time to time," he yawned, "don't get so moody about it."
I flinched. "I'm not moody."
"Sure," he said, "anyways, I heard you were here, and I thought I'd come see the prophecy girl for myself."
Hate to break it to you, ferret boy, but I'm not the prophecy girl. I'm a fraud. Sigh. Nevertheless, I stuck out my hand hesitantly, letting him shake it. His palms were cold, eek.
"Nice to meet you," I mumbled.
He scoffed.
"No, it's not nice to meet me, I'm a horrible person most days," he yawned again, "but now that I've seen you, I'll take my leave."
And before I could say anything, he snapped his fingers again, bolting back into the forest in his ferret-form.
I was terribly confused. What just happened? It was a very sudden meeting, and he just left as soon as it started, and James and Oliver were just watching me in amusement. Everyone here was super weird, jeez (not that that was a bad thing, but I was losing my sanity left and right).
Draco, James, Oliver, Harry, Emma, Daniel, and Louis.
Speaking of Louis, why isn't he back yet?
I should go find him.
