Chapter 23
"Shit!" Namjoon cursed and tried to squint through the snow that whipped at his face. The horses neighed in response and shook from the snow blowing in their faces. This was really terrible luck.
The journey was going fine and there was no sign of another storm. As everyone reached the base of the mountain where the path got narrow, a storm spiked up. It's horrible. The path had become narrow and the elevation made it dangerous. If you happen to fall, you'll fall to your death. The horses weren't able to turn around on this narrow path and so the only way was forward until there's some shelter or something.
You shivered. Namjoon's body heat was helping you out but not so much from the snow whipping your face as well. He urged the horse forward who continued on. The wind howling drowned out your hearing and you couldn't hear the hooves crunching the snow. You hope that the rest of the group is okay as well.
You bundled up with a blanket that Namjoon gave you from the pack on his horse. It tried its best but some of the snow still got in between your body and the blanket. You're not sure how long you've been in the storm but you wished that you would all find some shelter. The path slowly started to become wider again and then opened up to a small clearing where there was a cave! Namjoon kicked it into fast gear and had the horse rush to the opening.
Everyone followed Namjoon inside. Namjoon helped you down and you could feel how your body was. It felt terrible. "Someone started a fire." The Red King commanded as he dug through the pack on his horse.
Taehyung took this as his opportunity. Fire was his specialty as he had to warm up his tea sometimes. He started to designate the place where the fire would go by making a circle of rocks.
"Here." Namjoon placed a towel on your head.
You grabbed it off your head. "Thanks." You said and started to wipe yourself dry. Your poor blanket was soaking wet from the snow and you dropped it to the ground. Thankfully, Taehyung had the fire going. Everyone gathered by the fire and you slowly started to feel the tips of your fingers. No one really talked as they tried to warm up first.
All of a sudden, you sneezed.
"You okay?" Hoseok asked you, concern etched onto his face.
"Yeah." You replied. Your body was still cold but it wasn't anything serious.
Then Taehyung piped in. "Although you usually look pretty Y/N, you're looking bad right now."
You glared at him while Seokjin agreed. "You do look a little sick."
Hoseok put the back of his hand against your forehead and retracted it quite quickly. "You're burning up!" He scrambled to get up quickly. "Wait, I think my pack had medicine."
"But I feel fine..." You sneezed again and your head pounded. Okay, maybe you were starting to feel the effects. Hoseok quickly came back with a bottle that looked like it was a quarter of the way full. Inside was a green liquid.
"This is all we have but it shouldn't take more than what's in here." Hoseok said and turned to Taehyung. "Do you have a cup?"
"Why wouldn't I?" He whipped out a teacup from out of nowhere. The Hatter handed it over to Hoseok who poured the liquid into it. He filled it up halfway and gave it to you.
You took a sip and cringed from the taste. Still, you downed the rest of it in one go. It tasted horrible and you coughed from the aftertaste. You handed the cup back to Hoseok who tossed it to Taehyung. "Is it working?" Hoseok asked.
"Huh?" You could feel your eyes become sleepy.
There was a worried look on his face. "It's not working?"
"Why isn't it working?" Jungkook spoke up now.
"I-I don't know."
Everyone glanced at each other unsure what to do. "The medicine is supposed to work instantly..." Namjoon commented. You shivered in your spot and could feel your head become stuffy.
"We need more." Hoseok said.
"The weather is still bad." Seokjin looked over to the entrance. The wind was still howling away and the storm continued on.
"Shit." Hoseok muttered, thoughts racing to find a solution.
Your mind was starting to become hazy. The cold was still being spread across your body. Your head was hurting and your fingers were now locking up. It's so cold. You kept to yourself and tried to warm yourself up. Jimin rushed to one of the horses and pulled out a blanket. He draped it over you. "Are you feeling better?" He asked, thinking that there may be a chance the medicine was taking its time.
"I-It's cold." You replied and gripped the blanket closer to you. As they talked, you could feel yourself become light-headed. Your weak body decided to give up and you fainted.
Jungkook was your guardian once more as he quickly grabbed you. If he didn't, he thinks that you would have fallen into the fire. "Y/N!" He tried to shake you awake.
"I think Y/N fainted." Seokjin had gotten up and examined your face.
"No fucking shit Sherlock." Yoongi spoke.
"What do we do?" Jungkook asked in worry. No one was really sure how to handle a sickness. Usually the medicine was their go-to as it works instantly.
Hoseok bit his lip. "I think I need to go back to town to find a different medicine."
Namjoon looked towards the entrance. The storm was still going strong. "But Hoseok, the storm is still going."
Hoseok frowned. "Then what else do we do? We don't know why the medicine is working!"
"If you do go out and die, that won't help Y/N." Namjoon countered. "At least wait for a bit until it looks safe to travel."
There was no denying the logic. Hoseok agreed but gritted his teeth. He reluctantly went to the horses to fish out more blankets. He returned and started to lay some down. "Put Y/N here."
Jungkook easily picked you up and gently set you down. Hoseok had started to put the other blankets on top of you. No one objected to giving up their blanket. They didn't care. Everyone gathered around and Taehyung added more material to the fire to keep it going.
"Rest for now Hoseok." Namjoon said. "I'll wake you up and we'll go into town together once the weather lets up.
From the tone of voice Namjoon was using, Hoseok had to obey. Though he knows that he won't be sleeping well. Yoongi shifted into the form of the Cheshire cat and laid right next to you. Hopefully it can bring you some comfort.
Your sleeping self curled up to Yoongi's warmth. No one really said anything while Namjoon watched the entrance to the cave. It looks like the storm will slow down any time soon. Your body was still burning up and you looked like you were in pain. Anxiously, Namjoon paced back and forth and when he saw that the wind died down with the snow lightly falling, it was time to head out.
He quickly went to Hoseok and shook him. "Let's go. It looks like the storm is dying down."
Although groggy from sleep, Hoseok woke up in an instant and started to get up. The two went over to their horses and got on. "No fighting or killing each other." Namjoon said. "At least keep Y/N warm for now, okay?"
The group sort of looked at each other but agreed for now. Namjoon and Hoseok set out and headed for town. Now it was up to the group to ensure you were doing okay and alive.
Your head throbbed with pain and body burned. You slowly opened your eyes to the fire. It was still going strong and you happened to spot some of your companions near the fire. Next to you was Yoongi as the Cheshire cat. Slowly you sat up and that got the attention of everyone.
Yoongi shifted and Jungkook popped out of nowhere from the back of the cave. It sort of startled you. "Y/N! Are you okay?!" The rabbit kneeled down with a worried look on his face.
"A little." You sniffled.
Seokjin sat down beside you. "Don't worry! I'm sure you'll get better soon, so just hang in there for a bit."
You nodded and glanced at everyone. Wait. Can you count? You counted everyone and noticed two of them were missing. "Where's Namjoon and Hoseok?"
"They went back to town to find you a different medicine." Taehyung piped up from the fire. He poured some hot tea into a cup. "They left a while ago but hopefully they'll be back soon." He went over to you and handed the cup. "I think this should help."
"Oh." You gratefully accepted it and took a sip. You felt your heart burst with affection. They're going through lengths to return with medicine just for you. "I'm sorry for holding us back." Maybe it was your sickness talking. You did feel bad that the two were going out and for everyone here to be stuck in the cave.
"Why are you apologizing?" Jimin said. "It's not your fault your weak body can't handle the Wonderland cold."
Some things never change.
"Jimin." Seokjin warned. Jungkook was ready to fight him but remembered Namjoon's words. He decided that he'll punch him later or something.
Jimin realized his mistake as the angry bunny glared at him. "I mean sorry. I don't think... people's bodies from other worlds can handle Wonderland's cold." He thinks that was a better way to phrase it.
You hummed in reply and took another drink of your tea. It was warm and helped battle against whatever your body was trying to fight. "Do you like the tea?" Taehyung asked. You nodded. "Good! Drink the cup and I'll pour you another. It should help with warming your body."
"It does." You replied and kept it close to you.
Taehyung smiled with that grin which was boxy. Yoongi's ears twitched and Jimin whipped his head to the entrance. Everyone turned to look at what was going on and there the duo returned and got off the horse. Okay, Namjoon didn't do it gracefully as blood was seeping through his pants leg. What the hell happened?!
