Chapter 18
Gerard seemed really happy and I frowned in confusion. I just woke up and he's barely been awake for five minutes, How is he so energetic.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Today's just the first day of pride month," he said.
"It's what?" I asked.
"You don't know what pride month is?" He asked.
"No," I said. "Homophobic town, remember? I barely know anything about LGBT stuff."
"June is pride month," he said.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because we've been through a lot and we deserve a month for us and for our pride," he said. "You'll learn more, I promise."
"Do you do special stuff during pride month?" I asked.
"Well, I was wanting to ask you if you wanted to go to the pride parade," Gerard said. "Lindsey, Ryan, Brendon and I go every year."
"Where is it?" I asked.
"Down in Asbury Park," he said. "So a little bit of a drive."
"Is it just like those Fourth of July parades but everything's just rainbow instead?" I asked.
"Basically," he said with a snort. "There's just gayness everywhere and it's amazing."
"Am I allowed to go even though I'm not gay?" I asked.
"Frankie, how many times do I have to tell you that the LGBT community isn't just gay men?" He asked. "You're part of it too, you might not always feel like you're part of the community but you're just as part of it as I am. Hell, you're the T in LGBT."
"I always just feel like I don't belong," I mumbled.
Gerard smiled, giving me a soft kiss.
"You do belong," he promised. "You're a big part of this community, no matter what you might think."
I smiled, kissing his cheek.
"Oh and Brendon and Ryan were gonna come over for a brunch," he said. "So that should be pretty soon, I think."
"Okay, I'm gonna go grab a shower then," I said.
I gave him a kiss before walking into the bathroom and starting the shower up. I sighed as I stripped down from my pajamas and stepped into the shower. I didn't want to take long because I still had to do my makeup and I wasn't very good at it still so it took me a little while to do it.
I quickly dried my hair off with a towel before pulling on a pair of panties and sitting down at the vanity. I sighed, looking at my makeup that was kept separate from Gerard's. He let me use his, of course, but I was always worried that I would somehow ruin it and I didn't want to ruin his makeup or his nice brushes.
I didn't do very heavy makeup but in the end I could smile as I looked at myself. It was a small change but it was a nice change. A change that made me not cringe when I looked at myself. A change that made me hate myself a little less. I got dressed into a nice little pink sundress and Gerard smiled when I walked out.
"Oh my god, you look so gorgeous," he said. "Absolutely stunning."
"Don't be too sappy because I just spent an hour doing my makeup and I don't wanna cry and mess it up," I said.
He smiled, kissing my forehead.
"Do we need to cook?' I asked.
"They're bringing food and mimosa," he said. "But I'll make you a smoothie instead."
"What? No, I want a mimosa," I said.
"You're only eighteen," he said.
"That's okay, it's just a little bit," I said. "Besides, it's legal to drink at eighteen in other countries."
"But we're in the United States and you're underage," he said. "And I don't want either of us getting in trouble."
"It's in our apartment, nobody's around," I said.
"I'm not even drinking mimosa," he said. "I'm making a smoothie too for myself."
"Why?" I asked.
"Not everything's about alcohol," he said. "When you're younger and underage it may seem cool but it's really not."
Gerard's tone was sharp and flat, his mood completely changing. He seemed angry almost and I looked at him in shock. His lips were pursed into a thin line, his eyebrows furrowed as he looked at me.
"I-I'm sorry," I whimpered.
Gerard didn't say anything, he just turned to put away some dishes. I wasn't sure if I should help or walk away. What do I do? I've never seen him angry at me before. Why was he so upset that I just asked for a mimosa?
The door buzzed then thankfully and I hurried to let them in. They smiled, giving me a kisses on the cheek.
"Oh, it's been so long," Ryan said. "You look so good."
"Thanks," I said.
"You on hormones yet?" He asked.
"Yep, been on them for a couple weeks now," I said.
"Yes, girl, you get them hormones," he said.
I giggled and he smiled, kissing my cheek.
"You're looking absolutely gorgeous," he said.
Brendon put down some bags of food and Gerard smiled now as he gave them hugs.
"Okay, I got some scones, muffins, some of those mini sugar donuts like the ones at cider mills and I also got something new to try called dark chocolate waffles," Brendon said. "It looked interesting so I decided to get it so we could try it."
I smiled as Gerard and Brendon dished everything out onto plates while Ryan made mimosas. Gerard quickly made smoothies for us and we all sat at the table.
"So, Frankie has agreed to join us at the parade this year," Gerard said. "I think it'll be a lot of fun having her join us."
"So do we just like sit and watch people dressed in rainbow?" I asked.
"No, we're walking in it," Brendon said. "And we go all out, too. Rainbow flags and makeup and everything."
"It sounds like fun," I said.
"It is," Brendon said. "And now we get to spend it with you too which makes it all better."
"Last year us three all wore rainbow speedos," Ryan said.
"I-I don't wanna wear that," I mumbled.
"You don't have to," he said.
"I'm not going to either this year," Gerard said.
"Oh poo, we're meant to be the three musketeers," Ryan said. "We could've been the gay musketeers. Could've been gay together, could've been a gay party."
"It can be a gay party without the speedos," Gerard said.
"It's pride and that means we have to be extra about everything," he said. "Extra gay. Gotta feel the gay. Be the gay. More gay. All gay all day."
I giggled, looking down at my plate. I took a bite of the black waffles and smiled at the chocolate taste that was actually surprisingly good.
"Fine, no speedos," Ryan said. "Are you going in drag?"
"No, I don't think so," he said.
"Well, that's okay, I'll make sure we still look good," Ryan said.
"Didn't know I needed a stylist," Gerard said.
Ryan eyed Gerard's faded, ripped jeans and old, dirty band shirt. He raised his eyebrows and smirked but didn't say anything.
"You know I can look good when I want to," he said. "I'm just chill right now."
Ryan snickered, taking a drink of his mimosa. I noticed the way Gerard seemed to eye his drink and I frowned in confusion.
"I can't wait until the parade, it sounds nice to be around people around us that are really accepting," I said. "When is it?"
"In two days," Brendon said. "Gerard hasn't given us enough time to fully prepare our outfits."
"Do I have to dress up super extra too?" I asked. "I-I don't know if I'm comfortable enough for that yet. And not comfortable in my body to wear something like a speedo."
"You can wear a giraffe costume if you want to, Babygirl, just whatever you're comfortable with," Gerard said. "You can go in your pajamas if you really wanted to."
"I think you're gonna have a blast because this is your first time really doing something with the community," Gerard said. "She's been trying to learn from tumblr."
"Oh, sweetheart," Brendon muttered.
"I didn't know," I mumbled. "I just got really confused a lot so I don't think I actually learned anything."
"If you ever have a question then you can call us," he said.
I nodded and Gerard smiled, reaching over to give my hand a soft squeeze.
"We usually grab breakfast on our way down to the parade and spend all day there before we grab dinner that's at a place near the parade so it's filled with other people all from the parade before we head back home," Ryan said.
"I can't wait," I said. "It sounds like a lot of fun and I've never been to anything like this before."
I ate happily, drinking my strawberry smoothie.
"How's the waffles?" Brendon asked.
"Amazing," Gerard said. "I thought they were actually gonna be kind of gross but it isn't. They're kind of like chocolate chip pancakes except more chocolatey. And I wasn't expecting dark chocolate to be that good either but it is actually."
"Good because I paid for these and I really didn't want them to turn out bad," Brendon said.
"We should have brunch more often," Ryan said. "I love this, it's so nice. We need to do cute couples things more because it's so sweet. We can be a cute couple together and go on cute little double dates."
"We'll definitely have to make time for more double dates," Gerard agreed. "We love spending time with you guys."
I nodded and Ryan grinned happily.
"Great because I have so many plans for this summer when we can actually just go on cute little dates together," he said. "We can go to the beach and to the amusement park and to the zoo. Oh, I love cute little double dates."
I giggled happily, imagining us going on cute little dates together. I couldn't wait to actually do something like that, none of my friends in high school would've ever done that with me and I think it's just adorable.
"We definitely should," I said. "I think that sounds like so much fun, I've always wanted to go on double dates and stuff like that but guys at my school would never even think about doing something like that. But it's like a date but more chill and like hanging with friends but more romantic."
"Exactly," Ryan agreed. "And Gerard finally has a girlfriend so we can do this stuff with him."
"Finally he isn't alone," Brendon teased.
Gerard smiled, shaking his head. We finished eating and the other two left after we talked for a little while. I smiled, giving Gerard a kiss. He seemed to be feeling a lot better now and I was thankful for that, I hated seeing him angry.
