The day I'd been dreading for the past couple of weeks had finally arrived and I felt sick. No matter how hard I tried to make the feeling go away it was stuck there like the honey that came from the bees. I'd done everything in me to push away these feelings and for her sake I wouldn't show them me and my wolf had at least come to terms with that.

As long as I could be near her, I think that I could be okay.

I had to be.

There is a knock on the door and a familiar scent hits my nose, one that I now dreamt about. Amelia enters wearing a dress, something I thought she would never be caught dead in, (she's said so herself), but I liked the change and also disliked it because it brought more attention to her, I saw men looking and it made me very uncomfortable.

"What can I do for you my Lady?"

The small smile she had on her face slips away when I say this turning into a slight frown.

"Something the matter?"

"No..." She states going over to my office window and looking out of it. "I just wanted to see you..."

"That's thoughtful of you, My Lady but I can assure you that I'm completely fine."

She turns back towards me something glinting against her neck.

My eyes widen.

"No, you're not or else you wouldn't keep assuring me and everyone else of the fact." She turns towards me her arms crossed a slightly sad expression consuming her features. "I know that this has all been a trying time for all of us... everything has happened so fast and I've wanted to talk to you. But I know you've needed the space to get your thoughts together and I understand that." She steps closer. "But what bothers me is the fact is you won't meet my eyes, you- you won't even talk to me."

"But I have been talking to you ma'am-"

"See." She hisses taking a step forward. "That's what I'm talking about, you wont talk to me."

Despite myself I advert my eyes towards the bookshelf in the corner.

"Look at me, Erik." she whispers in my mind. "Mein Stern, look at me."

At that I cave in and turn my head back down to look at her to see that she was right there, her eyes a mix of green and brown. The brown tendrils of her hair gently falling in waves around her face.

Like the first time I met her, It felt like I was getting punched all over again.

"I know, that I've hurt you and I know that you must hate me..."

Hate her?

Something in me snaps and I find myself pressing her against a wall, less than an inch of space between us.

"Hate you?" I whisper, "why would you think anything like that, if anything It's the exact opposite and has been for a long time now. I love you." I sigh clenching my fist against the wall. "And pretending otherwise has been killing me for these weeks and years." I laugh bitterly. "It seems that all of my waiting was for naught, it seems that the goddess has decided otherwise." I pick up the necklace around her neck. "So, why wear this?"

She gasps slightly when my fingers accidentally brush her skin. "I-I... because I'd be lying if I said that I didn't acknowledge the fact..." her eyes look away from me, tears beginning to run from them. "I feel it too, my wolf calling out to yours... I don't know why the goddess has done this, maybe its punishment for me. Knowing that you're there but never able to be with you." her hand comes up to my face. "Now look at you shedding tears, though you deserve it." she pushes my head down into her shoulder. "Just let it all go."

I hold on to her letting my self sob into her dress silently and we stand there for a few moments her heart beat and breathing beginning to calm me down, she seemed to sense this and removes her arms from around me.

"I've got to go now..."

She begins to move away from me now.

"This will be the last time we'll be able to see each other like this."             

I reach towards her, even though I knew that this was bound to happen. Why would she choose someone like me when she could be with the prince someone who could make sure that she was always safe, almost guaranteed in fact.

even though this logic ran through my mind it didn't stop my wolf from violently reacting, telling me that we were her protecters we were as much as hers as she was ours.

"Freund..." I growl letting my wolf take over taking her hand so that she could no longer take another step forward. "Please... there has to be something I don't feel this way for nothing."

She doesn't face me or try to take another step forward, that's what is scaring me the most.

"I, Amelia Hertz, cannot accept you as my mate." she whispers softly but firmly, not a break in her voice signaling any difficulty from her part at all.

I feel my hand go slack immediately, those nine little words is all it takes to make me question my existence. Without another word she leaves the room leaving me frozen in the middle of the floor with possibly the worse pain I have ever felt.

The pain of rejection.
