Chapter Twelve: Erik
My beautiful people! How have you been? It's been a long time, right! I'm sorry for the delay, this college life is tough on a girl. But now things are settling down for now as Thanksgiving break approaches. So without further adieu here is another chapter of Wolvesbane, Please enjoy!
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I pace in the snow for what felt like hours now, every moment I was getting antsy and the wolf inside of me was becoming unsettled as well with what we held in our sights.
Where is she?
I feel an impatient growl surface from my chest.
"Alpha?" Asks Amelia.
As always she responds when I needed her most.
"I'm over here..." I answer feeling a sense of relief wash over me upon knowing that she's finally arrived.
I turn my head as I hear the soft padding of feet in the snow, my eyes widen in surprise when I see Amelia in her wolf form. It had been three years since I've seen her like this. Her wolf is still the very part of the Alpha her movements as stealthy as ever and her coat as white as the snow, which was the weird part about her it didn't match her hair color like the rest of us, when you look into her eyes it's still her but there seemed to be something a little extra about her in them.
It took my breath away seeing the power and grace that she still had.
"Is there something else wrong, Alpha?" she inquires, her head slightly tilted, her eyes piercing my own.
I turn away from her so that I wouldn't stare anymore. "Please, revert to human form. Then we'll talk."
I sense her hesitation at not saying something back to this, but I hear a soft sigh, and the light crunch of the snow as she turns towards some bushes.
"As you wish."
I stand with my back turned to her waiting for her to be done while also listening out for others in the area. I knew she could more than take care of herself, but for some reason the thought of someone seeing her right now bothered me.
And I'm not sure I could say that it was just my wolf anymore.
"What's going on, Erik?" She asks as she joins me, pulling her hair out from her shirt.
"Follow me."
I lead her to the source of a newly found headache, the dismantled body of a wolf, the remains scattered around the area turning the once pure snow into splotches of red.
Amelia kneels into the snow looking at the remains. "Is it one of ours?"
I shake my head. "From what I can tell this wolf was a rouge."
She stands back up surveying the area, possibly looking for what could've done this. "Some thing large did this..."
"Maybe a bear?"
She turns her head to look at me, her hazel eyes dark. "No, a simple bear would not be able to take down even a rouge, much less scare him into coming into Silver Moon territory... I fear that this is something far more sinister..."
I turn my body towards hers, my arms still crossed. "I know that look, do you have an idea of what this might be."
She turns away from me again. "We need to report this to the royal family, and then send a team out here to clean up the remains before the stench brings anymore unwanted attention." She pauses and almost as an afterthought addresses me again. "If... that is alright with you Alpha?"
I slightly smile.
She still has the attitude.
"It's almost as if you read my mind."
At this she smiles the tiniest bit, probably the first one I've seen in days, her hazel eyes lightening up.
"That reminds me, how did the meeting with Alpha Nickoli go?"
Immediately her eyes and expression darken back into the stony expression she had before and I can tell by this that something happened that she didn't explicitly like.
She turns away. "We need to report."
Without another glance back she heads in the direction of the castle.

"Do we know what did this?" Asks the king pacing in front of his throne, the slight crease in his forehead seeming deeper than usual.
The rest of the royal family was in attendance, as well as the Silver Falls pack, which in my opinion was necessary as well as made the atmosphere in the room a lot more uncomfortable than it already is.
"No, my king..." I say resisting the urge to shift my attention to Amelia who I could sense was shifting slightly from her position where she stood with the prince. "we do not."
He places one hand against his throne and the queen places her hand upon his, I see some of his tension instantly melt away. That's what having a mate must be like the greatest cause of your happiness and relief as well as the slight stress that comes with it as well.
The one person that you could trust with your life.
Your secrets.
But they are also the one person who could be your downfall.
"What do you plan to do about this?" asks Elder Leopard a little impatiently. "Sitting here talking about it will not solve anything."
"Yes, Elder we know." says the king after a soft sigh and then his gaze turns to me. "I'm sure you're already prepared to investigate this Alpha Erik."
I nod. "Soldiers are ready to disperse at your command."
He nods approvingly. "As expected from our finest, give the order."
I turn to look at Amelia. "Give the order, you know what to do."
"As you wish Alpha..." she says bowing once.
"You're leaving this to the rogue?" says Elder Leopard disapprovingly. "Who's going to watch her. Who's to say that she wasn't the one to do it?"
"I have to agree with Elder Leopard, who is going to supervise her?" says Alpha Nickoli.
I look at him in shock.
My wolf growls in her defense as we see her flinch ever so subtly at his words.
My eyes narrow. "Amelia is more than capable at running this investigation." I turn fully around to face. "Do you not trust my judgment?"
The Alpha's cold eyes meet mine and I stare back unflinchingly even when his older wolf started to pressure my own. "No, of course not."
"Because doubting her is like doubting me." I look over at Amelia. "You are dismissed."
She nods her head once and leaves the room quickly and quietly.
When I look at the prince I see that his attention is totally focused on the door where Amelia had just exited.
"To ease the mind of the Silver Falls I'll send my son to accompany her." He looks at the prince. "Leonardo."
He snaps his head forward.
"Y-yes, of course father." he says, taking no time to leave the room after her.
Elder Leopard nods his head in approval.
My wolf growls in irritation and I almost let it out.
"Erik."
"Yes, your highness?"
"Put together another team and see if there is anything you may be able to find in the towns about what might have done this."
"Yes, your highness." I quickly leave the room nodding sharply at the Elder and Alpha.
As soon as the doors close I pause, Amelia's scent hitting my nose it was drenched in anxiety.
My wolf whines.
I turn away from her scent and head towards the den to gather my team.
***
Later on that evening Amelia and her team finally return, seemingly successful in their clean up. I approach her as she walks down the hallway running a hand through her hair as she removes her black leather gloves.
"I see that the mission was a success, did you run into anything unusual out there?"
She shakes her head. "How about you? I know his highness didn't just let you sit here and twiddle your thumbs."
I rub my face in frustration and wariness. "Yes, but our search was all but fruitless... No one in the towns knew anything nor were there any rumors circulating around."
I feel her hand lightly on my shoulder.
I remove my hands from my face to look at her. "Don't be so hard on yourself, take some time and rest, you've been pushing yourself."
I open my mouth to object.
"Don't tell me that you haven't I'm telling you this as a friend and former Alpha, take some time for yourself. If you run yourself into the ground you wont be ready for the time when it really matters." she tightens her grip on my shoulder. "Do you hear me?"
I nod.
"Good." She says smiling softly.
I look at her a little more closely and realize that she's wearing a jacket that she certainly wasn't wearing before and one that definitely did not belong to her by the way it was fitting.
It nearly swallowed her.
She notices my pointed stare and her face becomes slightly red. "It's the Prince's..." her hand drops from my shoulder.
I feel my face drop into a frown despite my best efforts. "Speaking of his royal highness, where is he? He did accompany you, yes?"
"He went to speak to his father."
A silence falls between us.
"Well I better be going... Have a good evening, Alpha." She begins walking down the hall.
"Amelia, wait."
Her footsteps stop.
"What do you know?"
"Nothing... I hope." her footsteps resume down the hallway.
