Chapter 33

Quiet Ocean wasn't quite sure how the reveal that she was actually Lily Petal's daughter could ever be forgotten, but in only a few days, it seemed to be on the back of everyone's mind. Though at first she was grateful that Strong Boulder and his sisters' focus were more on Stormy Sky and Golden Flower, she also felt for them as well. She could tell the new members felt uncomfortable, especially with Strong Boulder and Tall Willow lingering around and making comments at every opportunity, but just because they had recently joined didn't mean her trauma was erased. She still felt strange around Daffodil Bloom, unsure whether to address her as her sister or friend, and Snow Fall wasn't faring much better.

In the meantime, Quiet Ocean continued training as normal. There was so much happening that she nearly forgot her training was a result of an upcoming battle. Her mind was constantly torn between thinking of her own heritage and the heritage of those who had recently joined her in the den. They were all fighting their separate battles and were now expected to team up to fight a battle for the pack.

As Quiet Ocean returned from training one day, she once again saw Strong Boulder and Tall Willow cornering Golden Flower near the side of the den. It humored her slightly, seeing Golden Flower looming over them considering she was nearly fully grown, but something was off about Golden Flower. She wasn't fighting back with the same energy as she used to. She had lost that spark recently, perhaps because her true identity had been revealed.

"Stop doting on Stormy Sky," Strong Boulder growled. "It's bad enough you're half-dog, but an omega? Imagine if you two had pups."

"Hey! Knock it off!" Quiet Ocean said, marching up to Strong Boulder. She was surprised to find herself doing it. Oftentimes, she was more meek and well-mannered, but seeing Strong Boulder upset Golden Flower struck a nerve in her.

"That's bold coming from the daughter of another omega."

"My mother didn't used to be an omega! And even if she had been an omega all her life, why does it matter?! Her skills aren't my skills."

"Yeah, don't speak to Quiet Ocean like that," Golden Flower growled. "We all know you're jealous that your brother receives more attention than you."

"He's not my brother!" Strong Boulder exclaimed before huffing and walking away.

As he walked off, Quiet Ocean moved closer to Golden Flower.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

"Yes. Thank you for speaking up. I would do it myself, but it's gotten so exhausting these days..."

"What was that comment about you and Stormy Sky about?" Quiet Ocean asked.

"Oh. Strong Boulder conjuring up ideas that aren't real," Golden Flower replied. She sighed and tossed a spare pebble with her paw. "When do you think this will end?"

Quiet Ocean frowned. "I don't know. Maybe after the battle, if we win?"

"It's dumb that it's taking a battle for the pack to accept wolves like us. I think it's ridiculous what Strong Boulder says to you. Your mother wasn't an omega for the longest time," Golden Flower said.

"It still doesn't give him the right to say things to you or your brothers or Stormy Sky," Quiet Ocean said. "I've honestly hated these past few months. Wolves being cruel to each other left and right, Strong Boulder harassing everyone for everything. The lies, the hurt. It's all ridiculous. I've been hurt by the lies too."

"I'm sorry," Golden Flower said.

"It's not your fault. And I know it's not my mo--Small Fox's--fault either, that she was only doing what was best for me, but it still hurts. My actual mother doesn't love me, and I didn't know my real father. But you were reunited with your family. That should be celebrated, not frowned upon," Quiet Ocean complained.

"You know, some wolves have been talking about standing up to the alphas and asking for reform," Golden Flower said.

"Who?"

"Well, Copper Rock, Feather Wings, and me so far. We were just about to talk to them the night that everyone returned back to the pack. I guess eventually we planned to recruit others, but plans got kind of halted with everything going on. When things have calmed down though, would you be interested in joining us? You might be especially valuable since you don't have a direct connection to the wolves that ran away. I know Lily Petal is an omega, but the pack knew already she was your mother and didn't treat you differently. They definitely started looking at me differently when it was revealed who my parents were," Golden Flower said.

"That's so dumb," Quiet Ocean growled. "You look completely like a wolf to me."

"Thanks. I know I'm a wolf deep down. And I know my mom and Copper Rock and the alphas are dogs, but I see them as wolves too. So, what do you say?" Golden Flower asked.

"What are you plans though?" Quiet Ocean asked. "What exactly are you asking of them?"

"Accept the dogs into the wolf pack, accept their offspring and allow them to have mates, and dismantle the omega system," Golden Flower explained.

"That's a huge goal!"

"Which is why we need all the support we can get."

Quiet Ocean pondered the proposal for a bit. She did feel slightly glad to know that her mother wouldn't have to be seen as omega or Dandelion Puff, her aunt, for whom she'd grown quite fond of. And her uncle, Feather Wings, would finally be happy with Gentle Breeze. And Golden Flower, her friend, and her family would finally be accepted.

It was as she said. She was tired of the lies and the hurt. She wanted to be a part of an honest pack. She had thought she was until the truth was revealed that she was Lily Petal's daughter. Though she wasn't sure how this would affect her reputation and if Strong Boulder would only tease her more, Quiet Ocean was tired of caring. She was no longer the naive pup who thought she was Small Fox's daughter.

"Okay," she told Golden Flower. "I'm in."
