Ch 11
I was in the middle of cutting the fabric when I heard my mom call me for supper. Confused, I glanced outside where it was pitch black. Weird, Chat usually visits me before dark. I immediately started blushing, maybe it was for the best, after what happened early, it might be awkward. Way to go Marinette.
“I’ll be right down mama!” I finished what I was doing quickly and made my way to the table.
“Where were you today at lunch?” My mom asked as we all sat down. I froze in my seat.
“What do you mean?” I giggled nervously.
“I tried to bring you up lunch today but you weren’t in your room.” I opened my mouth to say something. “You weren’t on the balcony either.” I closed my mouth.
“You see, I um, was on the roof part.”
“Marinette! You know that’s dangerous! I know that you’d heed our warning on that, I want the honest truth!”
“I was picking up fabric with Chat.”
“Pardon?” both my parents looked taken aback.
“He showed up this morning and I was tired of being cooped up, not being able to leave! If I’m going to be held captive here, I should at least go out once to pick up some fabric so I’m not bored out of my mind. Plus, he’s really cute when picking out fabric.” I mumbled the last part.
“Marinette, you are allowed to leave, but please tell us first and make sure you're with someone.”
“Mom, I was with the hero of Paris, I think I was fairly safe.”
“Akumas go after those heroes all the time!”
“Yes! Regardless of if they're in suit or not, and if no one knows their identities, how are any of us safe from Hawkmoth?! I just want to have a normal life but I can't with everything happening!”
“As your mother, it’s my job to keep you safe, I know it seems unfair but I love you and you’ll understand one day.”
“I understand wanting to keep my safe perfectly well, what I can’t understand is why that means keeping me from school.”
“Marinette, you’ll understand when you have kids of your own.”
I was steaming with anger. “Fine, may I be excused then? I’m not hungry and am in the middle of a project.”
“Marinette.-”
“Pardon my leave please.” I stood and dumped my food into a tupperware for later and set my dishes in the sink before disappearing upstairs.
I climbed up to my balcony and just breathed, calming myself.
“Are you okay Marinette?” I heard a soft thud behind me, if I didn’t have wolf ears, I might not have heard him.
“Yeah, I’m fine Chat, I just had a bit of an argument with my mom.”
“I’m sorry about that, what was it about?”
“Nothing big.” We dropped the subject.
“I’m sorry for coming at this late hour, I just had dinner with my father for the first time in a long time.”
“How did it go?”
“It was great, he had a business dinner and I had to attend, but it was nice, even though it wasn’t what I was hoping for, it was something at least.”
“Well, I’m happy for you.”
“Thanks.” we stood in blissful silence for a moment.
“So, do you want to talk about earlier?” Chat broke the silence.
“Well, um, uh” I stammered. “Do you want to talk about it?” I threw back.
He rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m not sure, but I think it would be important if we did. It’s always good to communicate.”
“You’re right.” We were really quite, waiting for the other to start this conversation.
“So, um, do you really like me?” Chat finally asked.
I said nothing, my face flushed and I turned my head in embarrassment before nodding, I refused to see his reaction.
“An-and you?” I started quivering, trying to hold in the tears even though I already heard him say he liked me earlier, but he said think before it and I was terrified he might have changed his mind. If he really didn’t like me, I’d understand, but I’d still feel ashamed. I felt his hand on my shoulder. Here it comes, the rejection.
“I like you too.” I shattered and started sobbing silently. He likes me back, I don’t know why I was crying but I was.
“Marinette?! Okay, um, are you having a panic attack again?!”
I shook my head no. I heard him breath a sigh of relief. “Do I have your permission to give you a hug?” I nodded and he wrapped his arms around me, we slid down so we were sitting on the ground just like last night. Chat’s arms were warm and full of love. He shifted so I was curled up in his lap, he stroked my hair and whispered calming words to me.
“Shh, it’s okay, breath, do you want to talk about it?” I slowed my breathing and with it, so did my tears. I pulled away slightly to wipe my tears but Chat got there first.
“S-sorry.” I say, avoiding his eyes.
“You seem to say that a lot now, why?”
“I-I don’t know, right now I’m sorry for crying, I don’t know why I was even crying.”
“Don’t be sorry, let yourself be human, let yourself show emotions. If you bottle it up, not only are you hurting yourself, but you're hurting those around you having to see you suppressing your feelings.” I sort of ignored the rest of what he said after ‘let yourself be human.’ I’m not human, not anymore. Well, I’m still human but not fully at least. Hearing those words made me feel a bit better I guess. If I just showed my feelings, I’d be more human, I can just ignore T.
‘Please don’t ignore me’ I heard T speak in my head. With no visible reaction, I responded mentaly. ‘I won’t but let me pretend at least.’ ‘Fine.’
“Thanks Chat.” I gave a weak smile. In a few minutes, we noticed snow falling around us, not graceful but heavy and hard. The clouds were dark, illuminated for a moment by lightning, I counted 5 mississippi’s before there was a giant roar of thunder.
“Chat? How about we head inside?” I looked weary at the storm surrounding us. We both were covered in snow in a matter of seconds. Chat pried open the door that was jammed momentarily from the strength of the storm. The wind got so loud that my wolf could only barely hear Chat yelling at me to get inside. The wind was so strong I was afraid that if I moved I’d be blown away. Chat held out his hand to help me, I reached out with my bad arm, it was still sore but it would be better if we could get inside, I felt a few stitches snap as I reached him. Chat helped me in and jumped in after me.
“This is weird, Akuma maybe?” Chat stated once we were inside. We went to the window, it was hard to see through the blizzard but I could faintly see the same black and purple colours as an akuma on the lightning.
“I think so, Stormy weather again do you suppose?”
“I’ll go check it out.” Chat moved back to the trapdoor.
“I can’t and won’t stop you, but please stay safe, can you promise me that?”
He looked back at me from where he was pushing on the door. “I promise, I’ll be right back.” He forced open the trapdoor and was swept up by the storm, the trapdoor slamming shut behind him at the force of the wind.
“Tikki?” I called and she flew out of her hiding place. “Come on, we need to go help Chat, Tikki, spots on!” I transformed and pushed open the window, my arm throbbing. I got the window open and left my room. I tried throwing my yoyo but it was swept with the storm and it dragged me out. I was left flailing around in the storm as it picked me up and threw me around.
I pulled my yo yo closer and dialed Chat, looking for a green glow of his baton through the storm. I started trudging forward through the street searching.
“Chat?!” My voice lost to the storm. I need to find him, but first, I should probably find the eye of the storm, that’s most likely where the akuma is.
I changed my search tactic, if Chat had the same idea, he’d be there too. As I got closer, the lightning got closer to hitting me. I made it to the eye of the storm, no Chat in sight, but there was the Akuma.
“Hello Ladybug.” her voice echoed around me.
“Hello Stormie, what happened this time that you had to interrupt my evening?” I asked as Chat made his way in with us.
“Yeah Ice queen, you just interrupted me confessing to my crush!” Chat added.
“I’m not Ice queen.” Stormy Weather had a scary calm angered voice. She held out her hand and a blast of ice hit Chat sending him spiraling back into the storm.
“Chat!” I cried before turning my focus back to the Akuma. “Stop the storm Stormie Weather!”
She shrugged. “Fine.” The storm halted and I saw Chat a ways away falling from the stopped storm. I tried to move but found my feet encased in ice and ice refraining my hand from throwing my yoyo to save him.
“No! I take it back! Keep him from falling, please.” I felt awful begging an Akuma, but I wanted the chat to be safe.
“Earrings first.” she had some wind circulation under him keeping him up.
“I can’t get them with frozen hands.” she floated down with Chat and unfroze my limbs.
“There, now I want both of your miraculouses, if you don’t give them both to me, I’ll have ice creep into his body and freeze his lungs.”
“Fine.” I walked towards her, my hands up to my ears, pretending to take them out. I got to her and immediately kicked her in the chest and summoned my lucky charm which was a blanket. I caught Chat as he slipped from her grasp and covered him with the lucky charm.
“You!” She screeched. “I knew you were going to try and trick me.” she laughed maniacally. “The ice is already making its way through his skin. If you just obayed, I would have removed the ice. I guess I’ll have to quite literally pry the miraculous from his cold, dead hands. Even if you do defeat me, I’m not sure if your lucky charm can bring back the dead.” I disregarded her and searched for the Akumatized item.
It must be in her staff, that must be where her powers are. I threw my yoyo and pulled once it latched onto her arm. She fell and dropped her staff, shattering it. I caught Aurore as she fell. I caught the akuma before setting her down and rushing to Chat’s side. I took the blanket and threw it, hoping I wasn’t too late. I watched the damage fixed around me as I cradled Chat, he was surrounded by the ladybugs but didn’t wake up.
“Aurore? Can you get yourself home? I need to help Chat.”
“Of course Ladybug.”
“Thank you.” I picked him up and brought him back to my room.
I set him on the bed and detransformed. He didn’t use his cataclysm so he wasn’t running out of time on his miraculous. I didn’t see any cuts on him but his skin was freezing. I could find his heart beat which relieved me. I needed to warm him up so I started wrapping him in all the blankets I had. It was that or warm him up in a bath and while it would be helpful, I’m not going to do that unless absolutely necessary, I don’t want to do that without him knowing, I felt that would be a bit weird.
I held him, trying to also feed him body heat, his skin was still ice cold. Hopefully he’ll be warm by tomorrow. I leaned against my wall, tired from the fight.
“Please wake up Chat, I’m sorry for being too slow, please, you need to warm up and wake up.” I held him tighter as I slowly fell asleep myself.
