Skirt - angst - R: no

Idea: This is very long bc I got the idea at midnight and I had to write all of it to keep it on my mind

Remus finds a skirt from underneath Sirius's bed and thinks he's cheating. Sirius is way too scared to tell Remus that he bought it for himself because he has figured out he is genderfluid but hasn't told Remus. Remus breaks up with him. Sirius tries a day later to say that it was for himself but Remus doesn't believe him.

James asks Sirius how is the skirt (bc he's the only person Siri has came out to and told about the skirt) and Sirius tells him he threw it away because Remus didn't like it and because Remus thought Sirius looked ugly in it and James comforts him but Remus was in the room with out them knowing and starts feeling guilty especially because he already told the girls about it all. The girls have been saying horrible things to Sirius and he felt even more sad because of them.

After Remus apologised to Sirius and they are slowly trying to build Sirius's trust and confidence up, The girls comes and question what the hell is wrong with Remus for going back to Sirius after the skirt thingy while Sirius is right there and Remus says Sirius isn't a cheater but the girls try to get an explanation for the skirt and Sirius gets very uncomfortable and runs away. The girls take this as proof for their statememt and try to hold Remus back but he gets angry and then runs after Sirius. Remus then helps Sirius calm down from a panic attack

"Sirius, come here."

Sirius put his hair brush down on the counter and walked out of the bathroom to find his boyfriend standing next to his bed. "Yeah Moony?"

Sirius froze and his eyes widened as Remus turned around, holding the skirt Sirius had bought a week ago. Remus looked furious and disgusted. "What is this?" Remus asked, holding up the skirt. The skirt was made out of black leather and it was very tight, at least for Sirius it was tight. "It's a skirt.." Sirius whimpered. He was certain Remus would lecture him for having it and say he shouldn't wear skirts.

"Who is she?" Remus asked and threw the skirt on the ground. "Who is who?" Sirius asked. "Don't play dumb! Who is the girl that this skirt belongs to?" Remus yelled. Sirius flinched. Surely Remus didn't think Sirius would cheat on him. After everything Sirius had done for him, after Sirius had let Remus know everything about him, he still thinks he's a cheater?

"Fine, don't tell me her name. I'm breaking up with you, you fucking slut!"

The door had slammed shut before Sirius could do anything. Sirius didn't run after him. Instead he slowly walked over to his bed and picked up the skirt. He hated for himself for ever thinking Remus would allow him to wear it. He's a man. He's supposed to wear men's clothing. It was truly disgusting that he went as far as buying himself a skirt.

He walked back to the bathroom and put the skirt on the floor.  He sniffled and picked up his wand. He pointed his wand at the skirt and said silent good byes in his mind. "Incendio" he muttered and then put his wand away. He watched as his skirt burned slowly and turned into ashes onto the tiles.

He stood in the bathroom for an hour before he decided he had nothing to loose. Might aswell tell Remus the truth.

Remus wasn't hard to find; he was at the back of the library. "Remus-" "What do you want, cheater?" Remus's voice was cold, but not as freezing as his stare. Sirius swallowed back a cry from the name and muttered, "I promise, I didn't cheat." Remus heard his because of his wolf senses and rolled his eyes. "Explain the skirt then."

"I bought it... for me. For me to wear" he whispered, embarrased to be forced to say it out loud in a public space. HIs heart broke into a million pieces when he heard Remus snort. "As if. It would look shit on you anyways. Why would you even bother coming here to lie to me?"

Sirius started crying. "Never mind" he whispered and ran away.

At 2am, Sirius was on his bed, cuddled to James's side while the other played with his hair. James had noticed that something was up, so he had decided to help Sirius. James knew that Sirius didn't like talking about sad topics though, so he tried to distracting Sirius.

"How's the skirt?" James murmured. Sirius had told about his suspicions of being genderfluid to his a couple months back. James was the only person who Sirius had told so far. James's support helped a lot, even so much that the had the courage to buy a skirt to try out.

Sirius looked down and sniffled. "It was great. I loved it. It fit my style and it was the perfect size. I thought I looked sexy in it too." James smiled and kissed his head, "That's wonderful Pads, then why are you upset?" "I burned it..." Sirius whispered. "What?! Why?!" James yelped a little too loud. "Shut up" Sirius hissed, glancing at Remus's and Peter's closed curtains.

"Why?" James whispered. "Remus found it. He thought I was cheating and I didn't have the courage to tell him the truth. He broke up with me" Sirius whimpered. James gave him a sad look and rubbed his back, "Aww, dear. I'm sorry for you. You don't deserve that. Did you try telling him the truth?" Sirius nodded, "I did. He laughed at me and said it would have looked shit on me." Sirius started crying and clung to James. "Why can't I just be a normal boy?"

"You are normal just like everyone, darling. I know this world is cruel and that it's confusing. First realizing your sexuality and now discovering you aren't just a boy is surely tough. But hey, we already got a word for you, genderfluid, and it will only get easier from here. Remus will soon realize what he has lost, I promise."

Sirius smiled slightly and nodded.

Remus sat on his bed in silence, listening to the two talk. He felt so many things it was overwhelming. He was sad because Sirius was sad. He was angry at himself, because he made Sirius sad. He felt guilty for not believing Sirius, for forcing the poor boy into a situation that clearly made him very uncomfortable and even after that laughed at him. He felt stupid for calling Sirius all horrible names and letting Lily, Marlene and Mary do the same. he felt like a piece of shit, which he was.

He wanted to apologise to Sirius until Sirius would forgive him and then apologise a thousand times more because he knew he couldn't fix how bad he made Sirius feel.

He waited for James to leave Sirius alone and go to sleep, before he stood up from his bed and went to Sirius's. His heart broke as he saw Sirius start panicking and pull himself into a small ball as he saw Remus approach. "N- no. I'm sorry. Please don't hurt me" Sirius whimpered.

Remus sat down on the end of Sirius's bed, leaving a fair distance between the two of them. "I'm not going to hurt you" Remus said in a soft tone, "I came to apologise."

Sirius's eyes widened and he stared at him in shock and confusion. When Sirius didn't say anything, Remus took it as a sign to continue.

"I heard you and Prongs talk and I've realized how bad I have been."

Sirius nodded slowly.

"I'm so fucking sorry Sirius, for everything. I'm so sorry for thinking you were cheating even when you have literally let me see you as a whole. I'm sorry I called you all those bad names. I'm sorry Lily, Marlene and Mary have called you all those bad names. I'm sorry I forced you into a situation you were clearly comfortable in. I'm sorry for not believing you. I'm sorry you burnt the skirt. I'm sorry I made you insecure. I'm sorry I broke up with you. I'm sorry I made you think I didn't love you for who you are. I shouldn't have forced you into the situation to begin with. I should have been way more understanding and let it go. And I'm sorry I dare to ask you this, but would you accept me back?"

Sirius didn't say anything for a little bit but then gave him a small nod and crawled over to him. Sirius cuddled to Remus, who wrapped his arms around the smaller one, rubbing his back.

"How about we get you a new skirt?" Remus murmured. Sirius sniffled and shook his head, "I don't want to... Boys aren't supposed to wear skirts. Besides I wouldn't look good in it either so why bother?"

Remus swallowed hard. He had disappointed himself too. He remembered when back in first year he had promised himself to protect Sirius from all harm but now he was the harm himself. "That's not true. Anyone can wear what ever they want. Clothes don't have gender. And I'm certain you'd look good in it too."

Sirius looked down and again shook his head, "I think I have had enough of skirts, considering the events that happened right after I got one."

A week later the two of them were still trying to build Sirius's confidence back. Remus hadn't stopped apologizing but Sirius didn't mind. He was glad Remus had realized how much he had hurt him.

They were sat on a couch in the Gryffindor common room, Sirius's cuddled to Remus's side. The three girls walked over and all of them gave Remus confused and annoyed looks. "Why are you sill with him?" Lily asked. "Wasn't he supposed to be a cheater who even dared to claim he bought the skirt for himself?" Marlene added. Mary chuckled dryly and nodded to her friends, "Pathetic of him, really."

Sirius started shaking and his eyes started getting wet from tears. He didn't want everyone to see him collapse, so before Remus could stop him, he sprinted off.

Remus quickly stood up and glared at the girls. "No he isn't a cheater, it was misunderstanding!" then he ran after Sirius.

It was easy for Remus to predict where Sirius had sprinted; the astronomy tower. It was Sirius's usual spot. Remus could hear sobbing the closer he got to the door and when he finally opened it, he saw sobbing Sirius in the middle of the room.

Remus walked over and crouched down next to the shorter, pulling him close to his chest. Sirius sniffled and clung to Remus. "I'm so sorry" Sirius cried out. "Why are you apologizing, my love?" Remus asked softly. "For not being normal."

"You are completely normal, darling. They themselves aren't normal. You did nothing wrong. You aren't a cheater. You were completely honest. You were the target here and they should apologise to you like I did. I'm so sorry you have to go through this bullshit just because I couldn't just shut up and listen to you" Remus murmured.

Sirius sniffled again and clung to Remus.

Maybe one day Sirius would learn to accept himself.

Maybe one day he would feel normal.
