Description: Sirius decides to follow Molly's advice and set up a date for Remus to tell him how he feels.
Story:
"Okay, James, you remember the plan?" Sirius asked, pacing the dorm. He was very much stressed out about what he was about to do.
James laughed. "Of course, we've gone over it a million times, Siri."
"I know, I know, I'm just nervous. I want this to be perfect."
James sat Sirius down on the bed. "Hey, listen to me. Everything will work itself out. Don't worry about it too much. He adores you as it is, you'll do fine."
Sirius sighed, resting his head in his hands. "You're right, I think."
James clapped him on the back. "Now go set up your date and I'll send him down in a little while."
Sirius steeled himself and stood, grabbing the duvet and his picnic basket spread that Peter had helped him prepare. It wasn't the nicest outside, quite on the foggy side, but Sirius didn't mind too much.
He set out the duvet nicely and enchanted some floating candles to light the area. He set down the picnic basket, peeking to make sure that everything was there. It was, and he even noticed that Peter had snuck in an extra bar or two of chocolate.
Sirius sat and waited, impatiently, wringing his hands together in front of him, trying to push aside his nerves as the minutes passed. Remus had been studying for his NEWTS in the library with Lily, even though it was only October. Lily was playing her part in distracting Remus until James went to tell him that Sirius wanted to see him at their favorite tree by the Black Lake.
Soon enough, Remus's form emerged through the fog and Sirius stood.
"What's all this, Pads?" Remus asked with a soft smile, gazing at the floating candles that cast a warm glow, illuminating the two of them amongst the heavy fog.
Sirius, suddenly overwhelmed with nerves and unable to speak, gestured for Remus to take a seat and the two did so.
Remus wrapped his jumper tighter around his shoulders as he sat there, looking across at Sirius. There was a light blush on his cheeks.
Finally, after several moments of silence, Sirius mustered up enough courage to speak. "Hey, Moony."
Remus giggled at Sirius's nervousness. "Hi, Padfoot."
Sirius brushed his hair behind his ear and cleared his throat, face burning red as he got ready to say what he came to. "So, Remus...I like you. I have for...well, for awhile."
Remus looked startled and then his eyes lit up. "Really?"
Sirius seemed to be trying his very hardest to seem smaller, shrinking away. He nodded, eyes tracing the stitching in the duvet.
Remus was quiet for a few moments as he processed this. His crush of four years liked him back? He couldn't quite believe it, not in the least.
Sirius took his silence the wrong way and started to stand, immensely embarrassed. "I'm sorry, I probably made you uncomfortable. I shouldn't have--"
Remus reached up and grabbed his hand and pulled him back down to sit. "No, no, it's--I like you too."
"You--what?" Sirius asked.
Remus's face burned with a blush and drew his knees up to his chest, subconsciously still holding Sirius's hand. "Yeah. For some years now. I was too scared to say anything. I've only told Lily."
Sirius eyes lit up and he sat up on his knees. "I was scared too! Peter, James, and Lily all know, though. They helped me out with this today. And Molly. Everyone knows she has the best advice."
Sirius and Remus sat in a comfortable silence, both giddy over the recent revelations. "So...would you wanna go out with me?" Sirius asked nervously. "Like, on a date? A real one?"
Remus smiled, pushing his self-doubt (why would Sirius want to go with him, a disgusting werewolf?) to the back of his mind. "I would love that, Sirius."
Sirius, overjoyed, squealed and clapped his hands, falling back onto the duvet with his feet up in the air. Remus only laughed and shoved him over again when he tried to sit up.
The two were out on the grounds for close to two hours, talking about their shared romantic feelings for each other and eating lots of chocolate.
When they finally walked back to the castle, they were hand in hand.
James, Lily, and Peter watched from afar with proud smiles on their faces.
Thanks for the advice, Molly, Sirius thought to himself as he and Remus laced their fingers together.
