Doves of White, Doves of Love

The sun shone bright; it seemed to be the one day a year where clouds didn't roam the skies. Remus and Sirius sat under a large oak tree, its branches reaching so high it could nearly touch the shine of the day.

With the suddenness of the chime of a bell, a flutter of wings burst from a tree, white doves flying high into the sky, their wings beating like the thrum of a heart. Sirius let out a surprised chuckle. "White doves! They're a symbol of love, aren't they? Even the universe knows we're meant to be together!"

Remus laughed, his cheer caught in his throat, however, when he saw Sirius smile-not the covering facade of exhilaration he usually wore, masking any emotion he felt other than joy, but a real smile, a smile that reached his eyes and shone with sincerity.

He glanced at Sirius, a small smile playing on his face. "I guess the universe is finally right about something after all..." Sirius looked at him; their eyes met, storm grey and shining amber. Remus looked ahead of them, watching the doves fly into the horizon.

"I swear," Sirius murmured, mischief once again sneaking into his tone, "it's like you have a third eye for me or something..." Remus smiled. Maybe he did. Or maybe it was just the soft embrace of love. Did it really matter either way? What the universe thought? Perhaps it didn't. Perhaps they could just... be.
