Books, Scars, And Love.

Sirius rounded the corner and froze at the sight before him. On a crimson sofa in the Gryffindor common room lay Remus, the love of his life without a doubt-his Remus, his Moony.

The werewolf was curled up, sleeping, clearly having fallen asleep while reading a book. Said book now lay on the boy's chest, moving up and down with the rise and fall of his breathing. Sirius's heart stuttered as he saw the book Remus had been reading: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Though, it wasn't just the textbook that caught his eye. It was the fact that it was the edited version Sirius had gifted him. Sirius's heart warmed further when he noticed a familiar scraggly crimson scarf draped over his boyfriend's shoulders.

Sirius's soft gaze trailed over every scar-every beautiful scar, thin or thick, sharp or ripped, all equally beautiful battle scars. Sirius searched his mind for any reason why anyone would think of scars as anything but symbols of intense bravery and courage.

Each scar told a story, Sirius thought, smiling a bittersweet smile. He knew his love had been through so much pain but also knew he had continued to thrive, knowing he would continue to endure and overcome that pain.

His eyes flowed over every imperfection with nothing but one thought on his mind: beautiful. Because, after all, perfect was overrated. He slowly moved from his place in the doorway to sit next to the curled-up form of his Moony, careful not to wake the boy as he sifted his hands through Remus's soft, brown hair.

He felt Remus stir in his sleep, letting out a small whimper that made Sirius's heart constrict as he wondered what haunted his dreams. But whatever it was, he would protect Remus from it, even here in sleep.

"Shh," he whispered into the werewolf's ear as Remus let out another whine. "Shh, it's okay, love. You're alright. I'm here."

He continued his whispered sweet nothings until Remus let out a sigh, still deeply asleep, adjusting himself to have his head on Sirius's lap, cuddling close. Sirius's fingers trailed down from the other boy's hair, tracing a thin white scar on his cheek before resuming his gentle stroking.

"I've got you, Moons. It's alright. You're safe," he said softly, leaning back and shifting slightly to get comfortable. Remus snuggled further into him, letting out another soft sigh that felt far too much like relief. Sirius let his lips turn into a soft smile, whispering his next words as though they were a spell.

"I'm so lucky."
