*David*

Honestly all I ever wanted was to be able to protect her. I grew up in a foster home. The family that raised me was an older couple with no children. It was a small town in the middle of no where surrounded by woods; it was mainly farming area. The houses were all spaced out and there were no malls or anything nearby. People hardly ever visited, so you rarely ever see any new faces and it was all old fashion. No one even used cellphones what's the point they wouldn't even work, especially since there were no cell phone towers. I don't remember much about my birth parents except my ma's voice. I didn't know my real parents though. I often wonder what they were like. They gave me up when I was only a year old and growing up I only had one friend her name was Catlin she drove me nuts but I adored her since we were kids. She was my first real love but I could never tell her that. She was always nice to me and encouraged me when we were younger. But since we've grown older we've grown distant, she always spends time with her boyfriend anyways. As the distance between us grew so did I. I wasn't huge but I was tall and I was pretty strong. I did have muscle just my body was by built lean, so I was pretty thin. My parents were very proud of me though, Ma always told me that I was growing into such a fine gentleman. Catlin was always beautiful and charming with blue eyes and brown hair, a true beauty. I told her almost on a daily basis that she was beautiful. She always laughed and told me I was full of it. She never took me seriously and laughed at everything I did. Ma had me home schooled most of my life because of how shy I was. So this was my first time I've ever gotten to go to a real school. My parents were excited they got me all new clothes and school supplies.

I woke up to my alarm and got a shower. I got dressed and grabbed my backpack, I threw it over my shoulder as I walked down stairs and sat at the table. Ma was cooking breakfast.

"I hope your hungry I made you a big breakfast." She smiled putting the plate down in front of me.

"Actually I'm really nervous." I said, picking up my fork. I scooped some food off my plate. I ate it as she set the rest of the table. Pa walked over and sat down at the table.

"Happy Birthday." He said, ruffling my hair. When ma put a cupcake down for me with a lit candle.

"Happy Birthday." She said, kissing my head. I smiled and blew out the candle. My wish was always the same to. Know my biological parents. But I could never tell them that.

"Oh come on it can't be that bad and you know to ignore them if someone picks on you about your eyes." He said, not this again. I was really normal except for my eyes. Ever since I was born everyone's always looked at me like a freak because my eyes are gold. I think it's hereditary. But since I don't know my real parents I guess I'll never know. I was also was born with markings on my back that look like scars. I looked down. I've asked my parents about it they didn't answer. The glasses I wear were shaded so you couldn't see my eyes.

"I know." I said, finishing my plate.

"And no taking off your shirt." He continued.

"I know and wear my glasses all the time." I replied. Getting up I hugged them and we said our good byes. Then I walked out the front door. I walked down the long driveway to school. The building wasn't that big. I walked through the front door and looked around for my locker. When I seen Catlin I waved she ignored me. I don't think she recognised me. She really hasn't seen me since before I started growing. So I just walked to my locker and walked to my class. I sat down with my books when the teacher walked in. She was a young female teacher. I could tell she was new here because she was dressed really inappropriately. I couldn't even look at her. Ma always told me if a woman is dressed sleazy not to stare because that's disrespectful and to always treat every woman with respect. All the other boys were staring and whispering. She noticed I was the only one not paying attention. I put a book in front of my face when she walked over.

"And what's so important you can't listen like the rest of the class." She demanded slamming my book down I got up.

"No disrespect ma'am but I don't think anyone wants to see that." I got up.

"Why you find this distracting?" She said, stepping in front of me so I couldn't leave.

"No ma'am. I'm just a gentleman. At least I ain't gawking like the other students." I said, when she reached up trying to grab my collor I flinched moving away so she couldn't reach me. She was much shorter then me so it was pretty easy. Then I just climbed over a desk and ran out. I walked into the bathroom. I splashed my face with some water from the sink. Then I looked in the mirror. Taking off my glasses revealing my gold eyes when Caitlin pushed up open the door. I turned around. She smiled when she seen my eyes.

"I knew it David why didn't you tell me. I didn't recognize you I mean with that deep voice and all you look completely different. I mean last time I seen you. You were small, thin, and your voice was much higher. Now you are a giant." She said, running up and squeezing me. I laughed.

"Well that's your fault for never coming to visit. I missed you to." I said, wrapping my arms around her shoulders. She giggled and playfully punching my gut. She was so tiny compared to me. She refused to let go so I just threw her over my shoulder and carried her out.

"So where's you class I'll take you back?" I asked.

"I'm outside right now I'm in gym class." She replied. Which would explain why she was wearing a tank top, really short shorts, and had her hair up in a bun. I carried her through the halls. She complained and tried kicking but I held down her feet. I carried her out.

"Missing something?" I asked, the teacher. He looked at her face and laughed. I noticed he kept looking at my eyes because I forgot my glasses.

"Ya she the one that's always sneaking out and skipping class." He replied.

"Caitlin you know better. Just call me next time she does. I'll drag her back." I said, he nodded.

"What's your name?" He asked.

"David Grey." I said, my real name by my biological parents was David Wolfe. Then I put her down and she hugged me.

"Your sitting by me at lunch you have no say." She said, looking up at me. I had my arm around her shoulders.

"Aren't you dating Max though?" The teacher asked.

"No no no it's nothing like that we're childhood friends. We grew up together he's my neighbor. We're like siblings. That's actually weird. I could never date David. I've known him since we were still in diapers." She confirmed. I just nodded in agreement.

"Ya I've never met him but I would never do that." I exclaimed.

"Ya David's a complete gentleman." She replied. Then I had her show me her group so I could walk her over. She hugged me one last time and kissed my cheek. I kissed her head and went back to class. When I walked in the bell range. So I went to the rest of my classes till lunch. Catlin smiled and waved when she seen me. I walked over and sat down beside her. She hugged me. Her friends all stared and the guy beside her was glaring at me.

"So your the David she's been talking about." One of her friends said, leaning in.

"Oh so you've been talking about me. I see how it is." I joked, she laughed and playfully punching me.

"Ya your my big grizzly bear." She teased, letting good and latching onto the guy beside hers arm.

"So who's the boyfriend I always hear her talking about?" I asked, the guy she was latched to raised his hand.

"It a pleasure to meet you." I said, lending him my hand. He gripped my hand tight. So I tightened my grip to match his. He smiled.

"Its nice to meet you to. I'm Max." He said, shaking my hand and letting go.

"Well aren't you a gentleman. So you got a special someone in your life?" Her friend asked leaning forward. I looked down at the necklace that dangled from my neck. It had a fang attached to it. It was a wolf's fang. It was given to me by my oldest companion. I knew her even before I met Caitlin. But that was just puppy love. We were kids. But I still held onto the promise we made. We promised when we got older we'd get married and spend the rest of our lives together. Its the same reason I could never tell Caitlin I loved her it's not that I didn't want to its that I can't. I gripped the fang in my hand.

"No but I don't need one." I said, tucking it under my shirt.

"Your lose." She said, sitting back.
