Chapter Two

Chapter Two

"We are going to miss you so much!" My mom said hugging me.

"And don't forget to message us as soon as you land."

"I am going to miss the both of you so much. I will message you as soon as I land and I will call you when I reach my dorm."

"You should get going now, boarding starts in a few minutes and you need to get through security check first."

"I guess this is it. I will talk to both of you later. Bye!"

"Bye! Have a safe flight!" With that, I was on my way to the security checks which surprisingly didn't take as long as my parents said it would. I headed towards my boarding gate since boarding would start in a few minutes. As I was walking into towards the gate, somebody bumped into me abruptly, making tumble over my feet.

"I am so sorry! Are you alright?" I pushed myself up from the floor and ignored the hand stretched out for me.

"I am fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, see no scratches." I showed him my arms and legs to prove my point.

"Flight 285 is ready to board now," the speakers announced.

"That's my flight! I have to go!" Without waiting for his reply I was on my way to my gate. As I neared the gate, I noticed there was already a big line.

I opened my bag to take my boarding pass out. I dug my hand in and felt for it but I couldn't find it. Suddenly a sick feeling came onto my stomach. What if I had dropped my boarding pass while walking?

Hoping that what I was thinking was not the case, I took my handbag off my right shoulder and held it in my left hand. With the right hand I carefully searched for it. I opened every compartment in the handbag.

I started to feeling more nervous when I noticed the line was moving fairly quickly. I frantically searched for it. Just when I was going to get out of the line and turn my bag upside down, I saw it. I immediately took it out. Relief spread through my body. It was like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.

Before I knew it, I was on the plane and sitting in my seat- by the aisle. As I was reading the flight magazine, I felt someone tapping me on the shoulder. I looked up to see the same man that had bumped into me earlier.

"Can I help you?"

"My seat is beside yours so please could get up for a second for me to pass through?"

"Sure!" I got up from my seat and stood in the aisle while he passed to his seat. Once he was sitting, I went back to reading the magazine.

After the flight attendants were telling is what would do if the flight was about to crash or have an emergency landing. The airplane was, at last, taking off. I tapped my foot anxiously. Once we were in the air the plane started to shake.

"Passengers on board 285 there is going to be slight of turbulence due to the weather so please put your seat belts on and before you know it the turbulence will be over. Thank you," the pilot said.

I started to take deep breaths to calm myself. After a few minutes, the plane started to shake a little bit more. Then my breathing quickened.

"Are you scared of flying?" The man next to me asked. I turned my head to see his brown eyes intently looking at me.

"It is my first time on a flight. I don't really know what to expect."

"Ahh, did you know flying is actually safer than driving?" I glanced at his face, waiting for him to grin but when he didn't, I realized he was serious.

"Really?"

"It's true."

"I guess the saying is true. You do learn something new every day." The man grins at my response. "By the way, we never exchanged names. My name is Ashley."

"My name is Jared. If you don't mind me asking, why are flying to Cenvar?" Jared asked running a hand through his light brown hair.

"I am going to Oakmund University."

"No way! Me too!"

"What were you doing in Peaceville then?"

"I have a few family members down there. I wanted to visit them since I hadn't seen them in a while." With that Jared and I started talking as we were close friends. Before I knew it, the pilot was telling us that we were going to land soon.

"I know of this great ice cream place in the airport. I have to take you there," he said.

"Jared you are a great guy but I am here to focus on my studies and I am not really keen on dating at the moment."

Suddenly Jared started laughing. I frowned at him, as what I had said was not funny. After a few seconds of laughing, he smiled at me as though I had given the best joke he had ever heard.

"Ashley I have a girlfriend and I had asked you out as a friend, nothing more. Trust me."

"It is hard to trust a stranger." I joked, fighting hard to keep the blush from appearing on my face.

"Well, isn't everybody a stranger until you get to know them?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

"You are right." As soon as I had said that, the plane started its descend and before I knew it I had collected all my luggage from the baggage claim and were headed towards the ice cream shop.

"I recommend the strawberry cheesecake."

"Since I haven't tasted any of the flavors I will trust you."

"I am honored that you trust me with the best flavor." Jared joked, holding the door out for me to enter through.

"Two medium sized Strawberry cheesecake ice cream please," Jared said to the person working there.

"I should pay for my ice cream," I said when I noticed Jared taking his wallet out of his pocket.

"What kind of man would I be if I let you pay?"

"An accepting man." I tried to hand him the money, but he wouldn't take it. Finally, I gave up.

"Here you go." The person working there handed us our ice creams.

"We can eat the ice cream in the taxi since it is going to be a long drive."

The rest of my time went by quickly and before I knew it we had reached the university. I had learned a lot about Jared in just spending just a few hours with him. It was a great coincidence that he too was going to Oakmund University. We were currently outside the university and arguing over who should pay for the cab that we both took.

"How about you half the money?" the taxi driver said impatiently tapping his foot.

We both look at him and say together, "That's a great idea!"

We both gave our share of the money to the taxi driver who looked like he wanted to get out of here right away. I mean don't blame him, I would want that too.

Jared and I were arguing the whole way here about flappy bird. Jared thought that flappy bird was the most annoying game in the world but I thought it was the most fun game ever invented. I mean who doesn't like flappy bird?

I took my both my bags by it handle with my handbag on my black bag. I looked ahead to see people everywhere. They were some that were chatting to friends while others that looked quite lonely or they were just lost. I mean I don't blame them this place is huge.

"Come on let's see who our roommates are," Jared said breaking me out of my never ending thoughts.

"How far is the hall?" I asked for the millionth time.

"Just around the corner."

"That's what you said five minutes ago," I said back. It was quite amazing I was here sweating like a crazy woman and probably looked like I ran a marathon while Jared was looking as good as ever, not a hair out of place.

"Well this time we are actually here," he said coming to a stop. I looked around to see a lot of people in a big queue waiting to get their keys to their dorm.

"Not another queue!" I groaned, slapping my hand against my head.

"Lucky for you I know the headmaster," he said and with that, he started to break the line. After a lot of pushing and a lot of sorry, we finally reached the headmaster. You could tell he was the headmaster due to his straight back and with his smile that held a stern edge to it but was welcoming.

"There you are Jared," the headmaster exclaimed. The both shook hands and then the headmaster looked at me. "And who is she?"

"She is just a friend I met on the flight."

"What is your name?" the headmaster asked, giving me warm smile.

"Ashley, sir."

"What a beautiful name," he said, causing a blush to appear on my face.

"You must be tired so let's see which rooms you will be sleeping in." The headmaster went to one of the spare computers and typed in our names. After a few seconds he came back to us with two keys.

"Ashley there were some complications so you will get a temporary dorm but it is more like a flat than an actual dorm. You will still have a roommate."

"Sure, go ahead. I guess I will see you around Jared," I said smiling.

"Yes you will," he said smiling back and then he turned back to talk to the headmaster.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and turn around to see a grinning girl.

"Hi I am Helen and I am going to show you to your room!" She said pulling me into a hug.
